Train Street was closed due to a Korean tourist doing something silly/foolish and getting hurt. You can still go on there if the cafe owners walk you over to their cafe (which means you'll have to buy something from them, of course). You should try the egg coffee again, you didn't get the correct egg coffee the first time. You may still not like it, but you'll have to at least try the one with coffee in it first. Try salted and peanut coffee, too, as they are also known to be good.

How did you girls get from one place to another? Walking or car?

we walked everywhere since we stayed in a very central location in the old quarter. hanoi is super walkable in general!

Southern food is said to be sweet, Northern food to be bland and Central food to be spicy.
