Great review, mate. I also own this laptop and share your feelings and positive opinions about it. One thing I find very compelling about this laptop is that you can pair it with a small 90W USB-C charger and eliminate the need to ever travel with the larger barrel charger! And because 90W matches the stock charger, you can still run at top performance.

Thanks for this review, I was expecting this review for two months since it was announced. It's such an incredible idea to match such a good processor with a decent enough GPU as is the case for the 3050 Ti. I still don't understand how this didn't happen before, a low power consumption CPU pair with a decent dedicated GPU, you can have the best of a ultrabook, but also have a decent GPU capability, and good battery life as well, as you can use the CPU's integrated GPU when the laptop is not connected to the wall. Also, Acer executed the idea properly, pairing this device with a good screen, a decent keyboard (why they don't use black keys as the HP ProBook lineup???? to not have the backlight issue) and a decent port selection. Apple M1 Laptops are good, but this is a real contender to it is anyone is looking for something similar with W10 (or even W11).

Such a wonderful comprehensive review Josh! I believe the tech enthusiasts will discover your channel and you get more followers soon. It would be really nice if the laptop had a black keyboard with a silver laptop finish and Amazon raised the price by $70 as they are selling the gold variant. 15W CPU would be a champ for the battery after the m1 macs as intel's 1165G7 and 1185G7 ultraportables are usually 28W. As you said display scaling is nice with the Swift X.I used to believe MacBooks have the best screen scaling without making it too uncomfortably small.

This is a very powerful laptop that doesn't have the drawbacks of many gaming laptops. It looks normal, has a charging brick of 90W which is actually portable, and is nice and lightweight. Main distinguishing factors are:
    - really nice display (100% srgb 1080p 60hz max 300 nits w/ good brightness scaling)
    - good build quality overall, with the lid being a tiny bit wobbly
    - the top-notch performance for an 14" ultra-thin (see details below if interested)
    - really small size
    - thermals are decent, especially for what it is, though fan gets very loud under heavy loads
The screen and keyboard are both pretty nice (keyboard backlight is a nice plus) and webcam is fine (720p). Port selection includes 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB C, 1 HDMI, Combined Audio, and a Kensington Lock. It's a bit annoying that there's no ethernet or SD card reader; however, the I got a tp-link ethernet + usb hub for ~$30 and it's pretty easy to carry around. The speakers are on the bottom and sound kinda meh (they get the job done). I get 5-7 hours of battery life under most use cases, which is pretty good for a laptop this powerful and small. If you play graphically or computationally intensive games, expect lower. While the fan can get really loud, it generally runs quiet unless under stress. The performance is amazing; the Ryzen 7 5800u is one of the (if not the) most powerful CPUs for ultra-portables, and will make a big difference for video/photo-editing especially. The 3050ti allows this to play most modern games at decent framerates. Keep in mind that anything higher than 60 is overkill unless you're using an external monitor, so this should be fine for any non-AAA games and even some AAA games at high settings. But, don't expect ray tracing or any other super taxing stuff to run well. Another note is that you'll only be getting 60-70% of the GPU performance you'd get in a gaming laptop equivalent because of the size. Lastly, if you are so inclined, there is a 2nd M.2 ssd slot inside for future upgrading, and the 1st one is also user accessible. Make sure you have torx bits if you want to open it up. Overall, this machine gets a 4.5/5 (rounded up to 5) from me. Below are more details for performance nerds/diy people:
The Wifi card is a Wifi 6 2x2 by Mediatek. Intel is technically better, but honestly it runs fine. The CPU has a listed wattage of 15W, but boosts as high as 40W while plugged in, sits between 85-95C under heavy, fully threaded loads, and stays clocked between 3.7 and 4.4GHz on all 8 cores. The GPU stays nice and cool under stress at around 65C, and runs up to 35-40W. For reference, the NVIDIA 3050ti at that wattage runs 15-20% worse than my desktop NVIDIA 1650 super at 100W. I haven't tried to max out the CPU and GPU at the same time for a long time, but expect the performance to be a little worse in any games that utilize both parts heavily. The integrated graphics handle the OS and the majority of less GPU-intensive tasks, which saves power and maximizes graphics performance (I feel like this should be a given, but it isn't). I bought it at amzn.to/2XlpdN7

Though, there is the msi prestige 14 at $900 if you're on a super tight budget. And those $700 r7 4700u laptops are pretty sweet too if you don't need much gpu performance

Thank you for the details on this awesome machine. The only problem I see for my class is that it has no touchscreen and no pen support. Honestly, my professors always write on a surface themselfs and copy paste things around. I can't keep up on paper but I don't want to buy two devices. Do you think the ROG Flow X13 would be a great choice? It's also AMD powered and uses a RTX3050ti. It has a touchscreen and pen support. I would not buy the eGpu though. It can't keep up in terms of battery life but I am next to a charging spot most of the time. If 3-5h writing (on low brightness and near idle load) are possible it's enough for me. I don't like the Surface Book because of it's throw away culture and most other 2in1 don't offer a graphics card that is very usefull for CAD.

@@mini9503 While it might be cheaper I am worried about convenience on the long run. I currently have 1 older gaming laptop with terrible battery life that weights about a ton and has no pen support. I don't even take it out of the house anymore because of that and it just stays in the kitchen connected to a TV. At home I use watercooled self build pcs with plenty of power when I work or game. I borrowed a dell Inspiron 17" from a friend recently. It's still intel 8th gen but not the cheapest model I guess. It had an i7 at least. It's an 2in1 with touchscreen and only onboard graphics. It is absolutely terrible. Slower than my gaming laptop from 2014 CPU wise while getting loud all the time because of no workload at all. Battery life is great though. Graphic performance is non existent. I could not imagine taking a gpu with me all the time just to do cad work. I don't even game on mobile devices. I am not really sure what to do.

Wouldn't all that be more important than plugged in graphical performance to most students looking for the best hardware that should last them years of school??
And that Acer keyboard is a straight up deal breaker. I wouldn't want to type my papers all day on a wobbly keyboard that bottoms out and has that awful arrow key layout.
