Here's the problem in a nutshell: the police think they should investigate PEOPLE, instead of investigating CRIME. Instead of having a crime committed and finding who committed it, they look at a person and see what they can come up with to pin on them. It's what I call Backwards Policing.

    • @CristianNazare

When the detective said " We're not here to try and take anyone to jail", That is 100% horseshit. That was the ONLY reason they were there. The doofus LT even went and probably called the DA to try and find any reason to arrest you. And I suspect that if you hadn't had a camera, things would have turned out much different.

It wasn't difficult to tie these bumbling oafs up in knots, it was stated several times by the cops, "you're committing no crimes", at that point the cops are powerless, the cops don't need to investigate ----- "nothing". They could ask questions, which camper doesn't need to answer, they should have withdrawn after a couple of minutes, but they were determined to" figure out" "nothing", no crime that they themselves mentioned numerous times, then just MONITOR the situation after that if need be.

We Got a Call. People are Concerned: Well, then officer, you shouldn’t be here talking to me. Your time is valuable. My ID is not going to help you determine if a crime has been committed. You are supposed to Investigate. So, investigate around me, observe, determine and be absolutely sure that a crime as occurred then arrest me. I am not answering any of your questions. And I won’t acknowledge any more questions. You want to know more? Stand off to the side and observe what’s going on. I have done nothing wrong. I have no fear of you. Just showing up and behaving like a bully has not earned you the privilege of knowing my ID. I don’t need to explain what I am doing or who I am. Of course, you already know our Fourth Amendment protects my identify unless I commit a crime. And our Fifth Amendment means I don’t have to answer any questions or talk to anyone.
Now, that I have said my piece, get off my property. You are not welcome back. So, don't come back.

The only thing the cops should do is go to the caller and say “was a law being broken? No? Then why are you calling the police? We’re not here to be your personal security guards. You call us when a crime is being or has been committed, not because your gut tells you something might happen, sometime.”

@@obijuan- I mean, it’s up to them to nip it in the bud as it is. The dispatcher should literally have the ability to tell a caller “I’m sorry but what you’re describing doesn’t fall into the category of any crime. We’re not sending a unit because you’re feeling a certain way.”
And even if they do send a unit, that cop car should just sit and observe for 10 minutes or until they get an actual crime worth going to. They can take notes or record themselves. What they shouldn’t do is approach and start making unlawful demands or assumptions. And after they observe nothing illegal happening, go into the business that called, explain the law, and walk right past those exercising their 1st, maybe 2nd amendment rights.
How would a dispatcher react to “hi, there’s a black man on the sidewalk outside of our property. I was once mugged by a black guy and I’ve been scared of them ever since. He looks suspicious.”
The dispatcher would have to say “ummm, ya. We’re not going to be sending cops because you’re racist and paranoid.”

The police show up on scene and are already in the mind set you did something wrong or bad just because THEY GOT A CALL

Unless he has outstanding warrants, they find real evidence, he gets caught in even an inadvertent lie, or blurts out a confession or says something that gets twisted.

Amazing work. Every single citizen needs to respond to police like this. But people are very easily controlled and give away their consent way to swiftly. Thats how officers like it, and their whole philosophy is based on a very strong push to paint a picture that your rights are not important. They drill it in every encounter they make.
