Lyrics of the song for those of you interested:
Wenn die Soldaten
In die Stadt marschieren
Öffnen die Mädchen
Die Fenster und die Türen
(Refrain)
|: Ei warum? Ei darum! :|
|: Ei bloß wegen dem schingderassa, schingderassa, bum. :|
Wenn die Soldaten
Durch die Stadt marschieren
Öffnen die Mädchen
Die Fenster und die Türen
Wenn die Soldaten
Aus die Stadt marschieren
Schließen die Mädchen
Die Fenster und die Türen
*aus der Stadt marschieren

I've read this marching song goes back to the Franco-Prussian war (1870). I'm sure it was sung by German soldaten in WWII but to say it is a Nazi song is incredibly wrong and shows the lack of study by those who say so.
And even if it was from the Nazi era....so what?????
It's earlier than the Franco-Prussian war, although it probably became a popular marching-song by then - and why not; it's very catchy! In fact, it first appeared in a vaudeville/musical called "The Pirates" (Die Seeräuber) by Alexander Cosmar, which premiered in 1839.
@@musicologo1able for me its ok when a song is from that time as long as its not Nazi propaganda

I'm not German and do not understand German language. Found this song in The World at War documentary episode 5 "Barbarossa" and I just love this. I have no idea what they are saying but this still lifts the spirit up
The translation of the first stanza is so:
"When the soldiers march into the city, the girls open the windows and the doors.
Hey, why? Hey, that's why!
Hey, why? Hey, that's why!
Hey, just because of the chingderassa chingderassa boom!"
The second and third stanzas are similar to the first, but it becomes "through the city", and for the third "When the soldiers march out of the city, the girls close the windows and doors."
When the soldiers marching through the town
the girls open windowds and doors
a why, a thats why, a why, a thats why

absolute banger
The original piece came from an 1839 comedy "The Pirates", by Alexander Cosmar and Vinzenz Kugler, evolving into this version by 1880 or so, and inspiring "Shumi Maritsa" [Bulgaria's national anthem until about 1947, when the Communist government adopted a new piece].
Beat me to it! You're quite correct :)
@@whoknows1447 Even in 1992 it got quite a positive reception: ruclips.net/video/0XTZdEje6-Q/видео.html !
As a Bulgarian, I really prefer the old anthem, which is inspired by this one :)

Reading these comments made me want to share this story from school:
My music teacher sometimes gives us "free time" where we don't sing no more or learn and we can play songs on the class computer. Me and my friend wanted to play a different German song called „Was wollen wir trinken“. Now my friend from whom I know the song told me there are two versions and something about a Bots version.
So as the Previous song finishes playing, I tell my friend to go play the song and to add "bots" behind it when searching for it on yt. Now as it is with some of these songs some people edit them over ww2 footage and my friend clicked on one of these videos. The teacher was still in the class and immediately shut it off thinking it was a Nazi song. I debated with her a bit but as I myself wasn't too sure on the song's origin didn't want to push for any narative.
Eventually the teacher looks up the meaning of this song on Google and since she doesn't know English too well she has to put comments from Quora through Google Translator. Everybody there says how it is *not* a Nazi song and yet my music teacher still refused to believe it was Nazi. Eventually she even dared to say this to my parents, to which I was like: „Ok?...and?“. Now as the debate got nowhere I just decided to let it be.
Now in my spare time I discovered more about the song and that it has to do a lot more with communism. Which just made me sad that these teachers don't know the hell about German songs and just judge them as Nazi if they don't seem like a modern pop song. Now this same Teacher once let an Auf der Heide Remix slide when someone played it. She even joyfully listened to it as she probably didn't recognise it since she didn't here this classic exact version: ruclips.net/video/rcVb6l4TpHw/видео.html . Other time when someone played that version she deemed it as the Nazi Anthem forgetting Die Fahne Hoch and Deutschlandlied.
It just makes me sad that people don't care for any history of any of these songs and if they just hear a German song that's not from the 21st century they think those songs have to be rooted in Nazism.
Man I feel bad for you. People these days just doesn’t know history that much. They just go on with it and start dubbing Prussian/German Empire music as Nazi. It’s pretty sad how people don’t even know which is which.
How ignorant of her. Good music is good music as long as there is no malicious intent. RUclips censors make sure genuine N*zi or other such controversial songs don't stay long anyways. All of that resides on disreputable sites like Bitchute now. Commendable for you to back down at first because of doubts about its political narrative though.
@@augustulus1277 Most people don't care much for history, but it isn't right for some to hurl accusations on things they don't know much about. Granted, some people do use old German songs to promote their own narratives, but if one is historically knowledgeable enough, they would separate the song from the narrative. Education is the best defense against ignorance and ideological narratives.

Nope, All it's talking about is how soldiers are marching thro a town and all the ladies are opening up their doors and windows to see them, It's literally a Prussian song but it was sung by the Wehrmacht since they embraced some Prussian Traditions, But of course RUclips doesn't like anything that's vaguely Nazi related soo.
What is the meaning of the song?
In short: if the soldiers marching through the City the girls will open windows and doors
Why? Therefore? Why therefore?
Just because of the schingdarassa bumdarassassa (should represent the sound of the marching music)
Thats the 1st verse so far 😀
I'm not German so I might be wrong but Isn't their pronunciation of "bumderassasa" wrong? They just say "bumderassa" ..in another version available on RUclips of this song they say this word with that extra "sa" in the end and that seems correct
