That scene always gives me chill!
Rest in Magic, Dame Maggie Smith.
Rewatching all these clips knowing that many actors of my childhood are dead makes me cry
Potter, it's good to see you. It's good to see you too, professor. Hold the fort Neville. Everything makes me cry.
I love how this scene shows us precisely why Dumbledore hired and trusted certain staff and professors. He’s always reassuring people throughout the series who don’t trust certain professors that he has a good reason to hire them and here we finally understand. ❤
Head canon:
Dumbledore knew Molly had the power to be a witch on his or Voldermorts power level. . . But she just wanted to be a mom so she sat out the first wizard war being a mom to her toddlers. . . And her brothers perished.
That's why in the 2nd war, no question she was going to sit by while her kids were in the prime path. Hence joining the Order of the Phoenix, and being trusted with Harry most summers. Because Dumbledore knew that if the magic of lily's love couldn't be given to Harry at 4 pivet drive. Then Molly's was the next best thing.
McGonagall: What is it you need?
Harry: Time. As much as you can give me.
Opens an entire cabinet of Time Turners.
Rest In Peace, Dame Maggie. We miss you very much.
Hogwarts could have used that spell alot more times than just this one.
Love you Maggie 🙂 RIP
@VoidC13 seriously? Have you not watched the other movies? Gient snake attacking students wouldnt have been handy? Or when they thought a dangerous escape killer had broken in? A big troll in the dungeon... I think you have some catching up to do.
@VoidC13 Maybe you should read a book...or seven.
@@glazierblue573 So your solution for every movie is to have a giant army of stone statues run amok throughout a school full of children who are already in danger, thus putting them in even MORE danger due to the increased chaos of the situation? Right...
@ArthurRex131 whoa honey... if you could just turn the attitude down abit please! Shall I explain what going on here first before you lose it?
This is just a fun chat about what happens when Real logic is applied to an unrealistic, fictional situation. It's meant to be fun! So.... lighten up!
It depends on how you look at it. I see it as, having lots of almost indestructible body guards, *controlled by the teachers* protecting the children.
I would consider a good thing when monsters are attacking.
Another example. In "The Lord of the Rings" They didnt have to travel all the way on foot. If a real logical plan applied, i would have used those giant eagles to fly them there, much faster, then destroy the ring... but then the movie would have been over in 5 min, so for the sake of plot, no, the stone body guards dont work, in Harry Potter. But that's the only reason.
Tell me, are you here for fun or are you just looking for a fight for the sake of it? If so, that's what the political channels are for!
@@ArthurRex131 i dont think there saying that at all .
first all the spell dose as showen here is bring out stone statues to defend the school .
its not clear if you can bring out a few of them or you have to bring all of them .
i do agree that they could have been usful in slowing down the danger but
if the danger was that easy to stop we would not have a main character .
also keep in mind it is a school and if these statues could keep most of the kids safe from harm why not use it?
Always love her ❤ RIP Sweet Grandma
I still love the glee in Seamus's face when she gives him permission to blow the bridge up, lol.
The scene the music everything came together in one perfect effect and 13 years on where we have Seen the older actors come and go that in this key time (always) remember whatever time we watched these movies that memories keep on going
For me, this is the most chilling part in HP series. Mdm Maggie Wilson did this in the most iconic way, which no one will never forget. ❤
The clip makes me so happy and pumped...then I get sad. Only Maggie Smith could put me in a rollercoaster of emotions in just a few seconds. ❤❤
Small reminder that this spell was probably created by the four founders as a means to fend of muggle armies, should they ever try to witchhung Hogwarts...
I’m of the opinion that’s why Salazar created the chamber and Basilisk
He was probably weary of muggle borns because 1) there parents would know about Hogwarts 2) muggles may use their relative wizards magic on other wizardfolk
To attack Hogwarts they’d likely have to go from underneath hence why the basilisk was kept there
"hold the fort Nevill" i love that part so much.
I read in another upload of this clip there was a comment, and I never noticed it until I read that comment I never noticed there was a 4th Protego Maxima streaming up, and it belonged to the nurse of Hogwarts 😭
McGonagle's spell, with the castle guardians, has always reminded me of the substitutiary locomotion spell Angela Lansbury used in bed knobs and broomsticks.
I'm not positive, but I'm fairly confident that is exactly what it's based on
Rest in Peace Maggie.
This whole scene is perfect.
i always felt like flitwick got cheated in that scene. in the books he put up that shield by himself. one professor held off the whole army, for a while at least. He was really quite powerful.
Our beloved Professor McG sounded like a girl when she told Molly that she'd always wanted to use that spell
It's like Harry Potter😢 books and movies saved my life in many ways. I was in fifth grade when the books first came out.
RIP Maggie Smith, thank you for bringing McGonagall to life 😢
🪄
@user-yz2cx3dq5t nice touch.
Prof. Slughorn drinking Felix Felicis at 1:27.
I just noticed this: as the Hogwarts faculty and Mrs Weasley are walking down the castle steps in preparation for their all casting the « Protego Maxima » spell to shield Hogwarts from Voldemort’s Army of Death-Eaters, it looks as though Professor Slughorn is taking a swig of something from a flask: could it be Felix Felicis, or « Liquid Luck »? After all, *far* better magical duelists than he--such as Tonks and Remus--are *killed* in the Battle of Hogwarts, but somehow Slughorn survives……I’ve of course read *all* the HP novels, but can’t remember whether or not HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS explicitly indicates that Prof. Slughorn drank some Felix Felicis before the battle…Does anyone else?
PS: In both the books and in the films, I always had a special fondness for Professor McGonagell’s transfiguration magic: at one point in the novel form of *THE DEATHLY HALLOWS,* she is shown herding an « army » of animated school desks into battle against the Death-Eaters!!!
Luna is too cute omg
I love how fierce luna is... she is brilliant
Rest in Peace, Dame Maggie Smith!! 😭💔
🪄
Such a special scene.
I always wanted to use that spell😄
RIP Maggie Smith 😢
Gosh, the memories of the books meshed in with the textures from the film stick better than these movies. For good reason.
My mom watches shows with Maggie (Professer McGonagall) in them..one being Downton Abby (apologies on my spelling of that show lol)
Thats quite the meat shield, protecting Potter!
For a brief moment It looked like she was holding Mollys severed head up in the thumbnail.
I get bedknobs and broomsticks vibes
Substitutiary Locomotion
Rest in Magic 🪄 Dame Maggie Smith 💚 from a proud Slytherin 🐍
