I always make instant coffee by throwing the milk and coffee in first, and gradually pour the water in as you stir it. It really does make a huge difference to the flavour of the coffee and stops you from burning it.
I'm an over the road truck driver. I have one of those kettles in my truck and had been drinking a lot of hot tea. The truck I'm driving now is a little smaller so I did not bring my coffee maker. For about $2 at Walmart you can get a huge container of instant coffee. I'm even using powdered creamer instead of my half and half. I still brew coffee at home but the instant and the truck is not bad. I do try to cool it by adding cold water once I get enough hot water in the cup. I also put just a little water in the cup as I stir or swirl the powdered coffee to a liquid.
You don’t need to add the cold water, you just add your dash of milk and stir before the hot water 👌
Fresh air works too. Just stir the dry granules in the cup for about 30 seconds.
@@GreenMorningDragonProductions does it actually or is it a joke?
I mix it with milk first, I find it completely removes the scorched earth taste. I love you went from "I hate coffee" to "I can't live without it."
We love our addiction habit lol
So I’m not the only one that tastes that taste thanks for giving it a name I never knew how to word it🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻♥️
“Scortched earth taste” 😂😂😂😂yu nailed it lol!!😂
For my instant coffee i take my cold canned milk, coffee, sugar, and a few drops of vanilla and mix it in my mug. It make a vanilla coffee thick cream sort of base, about 2.5-3 ounces. Then add my hot water. Its been a constant hit
So the reason this works better is because the very bitter compounds in coffee dissolve at very high temperatures. By adding the boiling water to the cold water, you limit the temperature of the water, and get better coffee.
That's along the same lines as what I was told YUP. Sounds about right.
This is the first time I've heard of it and now my coffee tastes much better with less bitterness. Thank You! ☕😎👍
Watched this last night. Tried the cold water hack (w/o milk or sugar) with Folgers this morning. Definite improvement. Thank you.
Usually just let the coffee dissolve into the milk before adding my boiling water. I just saw it as a way to not burn the coffee, why take it up to 100c and then drop the temp with milk. then start cold and work it to a comfortable temp without having to burn your ingredients. :)
Here's an even better trick. After putting the coffee powder in the cup, add your dash of milk and then place it in the microwave for a few seconds, mix it, then slowly add the water. Trust me it's much nicer that way.
That is if you have a microwave
I drink instant when camping or hiking. This little trick has worked for me for years. Especially since I stopped packing a small percolator and pre-ground. And though I am kind of a coffee snob, I will never Force an opinion on anyone. With that said, coffee is an experience and it's usually the first part of everyone's day, I would argue the most important part to most people's day. If your coffee isn't your idea of heaven, did your day even start? I strongly implore everyone to find their coffee of the gods.
That's a very good find, and I think it has all to do with avoiding overheating the fats and oils in the coffee and milk (if you use milk as well). That danger is best shown with tea and milk. If you pour boiling water onto tea leaves, then add milk soon after, you will see oil globules floating on the surface. The milk is ruined, because the fats in the milk have been dissociated from the original milk fluid. I'm convinced that the same applies to boiling water onto instant coffee powder.
This a a grand change of pace, really relaxing as well.
Thank you! Great coffee hack, & love your narrative and commentary! Cheers! ☕️
Great hotel tip Bounty.
At home, add the milk to the cup of instant coffee first, then microwave till warm and then add the hot water. Makes instant coffee taste nearly as good as ground coffee.
This is right, I does improve the coffee. Although I use whisky of course...
I think I cau give that whiskey thing a try!
Thanks. I consume a lot of instant coffee so this is useful.
Thumbs up for you Blunty....thanks!!!!
Kari from Canada.
I drink instant coffee a lot. In fact I like it better then the normal stuff(potted, french pressed, espresso). It's all about instant medium colombian with a small amount of cream & amber agave. 😻
I've been doing that for years with Hot Chocolate. Never occurred to me to try it with Coffee.
Great...I do that too..But I also use cheap milk frother stick from IKea to add that froth to the coffee and then add water...It looks lovely...hehe..good video though...😊
I’m make instant coffee while watching instant coffee vids!
my father was in a relatively-chill federal prison in Florida in the early 80s with a lot of Cubans (less-ordinary components of the Marielito migrant wave, mostly), and he picked up this trick from them. they were sometimes called “clackers” there because of the regular sound of multiple guys doing it in their cells. as he showed it to me, you continue it for half a minute or so to facilitate whatever reaction is happening with the air. i might buy some instant crystals soon to test variations of the process - i once thought i’d gotten equally good results (or nearly so) from doing the initial slurry with *hot* water even, but i need to actually try them side by side before confidently proclaiming anything about it.
Excellent tip--thanks for sharing....
I'm literally so shocked lol like damn this coffee is actually better. I had a method where I'd make kind of a slurry but I still use hot water. This is definitely my new method!
Thanks brother!!! Its like night and day!!!
I thought I could sit through this but no. Your expression at 6:05 made me get up and make a proper cup of coffee.
I use the microwave to boil the water in a microwave safe mug. Then I add the coffee 2 1/2 teaspoons coffee slowly; otherwise, it will froth a lot (it will spill onto the counter and onto the floor). Then I add Nestle Coffee mate and sweetener...best coffee ever. Or you can make a coffee run to McDonald's!
I didn't even realize I was doing this! I tend to mix my instant coffee with room time water before adding oat milk and ice. It does definitely change the flavor of the coffee, but I had to try it in hot water again just to really tell. I use UCC 117 instant on a daily basis and love it more without that slightly burnt flavor.
You don't need to use water to make the slurry, just add your milk first to the instant coffee, mix, then ad the boiling water, and mix again, saves time, money, water.
I totally had to try it myself today after seeing your video. Not bad~
I usually just put the milk in first. Same result with less steps.
His video is good for people that prefer it without milk though
Tried coffe beans for first time, not going back. I've been able to drink it black for the first time. Milk or milk alt. and lots of sugar are a must in instant coffee..which is how I've always had it my whole life (since I started drinking it) until now.
I like the background music for this video. Makes it unique and special somehow 😀 Thanks for the trick!
Nescafe had an imported one from Spain that was only sold at Coles back 10-15 years ago and no matter how it was made it out sold every other instant coffee. Sadly as is with every item that outsells other items, it was removed from the shelves as to allow the other items to be purchased.
Wonder if this would work for the cappuccino pouches and other powered flavors.
i guess its bcus when u add the hot water your are kind of cooking it for the third time wich may be too much and that can affect the taste
When I have faced Instant Coffee, I do a variation of this "Life Hack". I place the milk into the cup first, add the coffee, stir and then add the hot water. I am going to need to test this now vs the cold water first.
I'm going to try it !
It works quite well
Always clean the cups in hotel rooms really well with boiling water. The cleaners just use a rag and spray cleaner to 'clean' them
I'm just impressed that you get actual coffee cups and metal spoons in the cheap hotel room. It's usually tiny plastic solo cups and plastic spoons at the cheap hotels I've stayed at!
Right? I finally remembered to add “real cups” to our packing list as trying to push an aeropress onto a paper cup is just not gonna happen.
BTW - where are you staying that has plastic spoons? We’re luck to find one of those plastic stick stirrers… 😂
oh so basically a halfway made café batido, if you used less cold water and stirred longer it becomes even better, we've been doing this in South America for ages
“Little pouch of immortal milk that will never go bad because it’s been so harshly treated by the man” This cracked me up
Huzzuh! I prefer to use milk instead of water for cooling.
This vid is more than a coffee making loooool brilliant 😂
huh... wished i watched this before making my cup of coffee earlier... i guess I got to wait til tomorrow.
Making hotel room coffee functional(ish)... thanks. I’ll try it on my trip in a couple of weeks.
Sooooooo, how did that work out for you?
Damn I tried it side by side too and I was skeptical there would be any difference but there was.
I drink instant (green blend stuff) and real coffee...depends on how much stuffing around I want to do. BUT, with instant, I always put the milk in and mix it in good before the hot water, otherwise it tastes burnt, and strained through an old dirty sock!
I prefer to use the instant stuff to make coffee candies.
Done that for years. Mixing the instant, with sugar and the milk, before introducing the hot water. Makes it soft and sweat.
It's the exact same logic behind cold brewing and machine coffee. The cold water extracts the flavor more gently and doesn't get the bitter notes.
PS: Cold brew is more smooth than french press, but french press does also give you a more bold flavor and it can be made more smooth too with a sprinkle of salt before pouring over the hot water.
PPS: I'm now wondering how this trick would do with french press coffee.
lol fantastic. In brasil we do the same to capuccino powder! Gets much better!
Yeah, I made the decision a while ago not to use hotel kettles ever again ... useful information if I ever run out of decent coffee at home though.
I like to use hot milk and chocolate syrup or even a hot coco packet that doesn't require milk.
Just tried it I wouldn’t drink instant coffee intell your trick!
Thank You
The no if times u used the word cheap in the context of the hotel, they are looking for u now!😂😂
You* Use actual words.
Gonna try this! ty
I can confirm that there's a better taste doing this to Safeway brand instant coffee but still has an aftertaste that makes me sick personally. I'll just carry around tea bags. I would say that it's about 65% better though. If you added some strong flavoured cream to it you could cut that down more.
You are hilarious! 😂 great advice btw I just got some 365 instant coffee after not drinking coffee for years
Trying this tomorrow! Thank you!
I add a bit of milk, but also wait until the boiled kettle calms down and you can't hear it bubbling, that seems to help a lot.
coffee-cream- hot water-never fails.
mmm love me some international roach in the morning 😂😂😂
Thanks
Probably just me but I took this as a cheeky go at McKinnon & Co... Love it
2:23 is that a Bill Bailey reference?
Yes. Yes it is 😉
Oh wow. Thanks from India 🇮🇳
Thanks mate!
Are you one of those people from The infomercials that have fallen and they can't get up? the way you fumbled around with this food and then made your drinks spill to try and overdramaticize things cracked me up.🤣 thank you for the good tip and your video was entertaining it made me want to go find more haha
I dunno how much truth there is to this but it seems to work to my pallet but another thing you can do is add a tiny, tiny (like a bit less than an 8th of a teaspoon) pinch of salt, further reduces bitterness.
Sugar also reduces bitterness.
It Tempers the instant coffee. It;s a Life Power Up!
Its weird i swear some days i can make a instant nice hot coffee that tastes great and other days using it seems the exact method it tastes so so!?!.
From now on im going to mix the milk in first with the coffee before adding the hot water thanks for the tip!.
Tried it your way with Taster's Choice: It removed some of the usual fried trash taste. Why not mix in cold water, then nuke the whole thing for 2 minutes? Assuming your room has a microwave...
I think the problem is getting the water too hot causes must of the problem. So, you can do that but only heat it for 1 min to 1.25 minutes, which is drinkable but not overly hot.
Blunty...............Uh add the milk/creamer to the cold water. Mix. Then add the hot water. Takes it to the next level.
I have actually never stayed in a hotel/motel that has instant coffee in the room. No matter how cheap or expensive the room it has an actual coffee maker, unfortunately the coffee grounds they all use is not much better than call center coffee, which I assure you is utter crap, instant tastes better.
Milk first is a MUST
Definitely need to include "immortal milk" in everyday conversation. I had a kettle in a hotel in Iceland that was still cheap but had a little switch on the side for tea and coffee, changing the cutoff temp. Never seen that anywhere else.
Regardless, I use Douwe Egberts Pure Indulgence Dark Roast (sheesh) exclusively as my instant coffee and I really enjoy it. Smells great and tastes fine. Maybe I'm easily pleased.
WOO HOO
#STRAYA 🇦🇺
Better hack to improve cheap coffee is to add a few granules of salt.
I sprinkle instant coffee over my cereal. mmmmm
There so many coffee place in melb, I don’t see any reason to drink hotel coffee.😂
I can see if u going to country it may helps a lot.🤔
I can see some people not being functional until some form of caffeine has been imbibed... and as it's a hotel, maybe they are up and about before a coffee place--near enough--is open.
Or it can be so bad for someone that they need their hot bean broth to not murder a person, within striking distance, for breathing too loudly.
Just get the jar of blend 43 ive been drinking it more than the nespresso machine
Well goes to verify that my Grandmother said that you should never boil coffee so perhaps I might try this method.
Instant invariably tastes better without milk imho.
You make instant coffee sound worse than the end of the world😂
IMMORTAL MILK
Would the chemistry carry over to freshly pressed stuff also?
I bring my own coffee on trips and like others here pour cooled milk before adding water. I leave the water to sit a bit after boiling so it's not straight from a boiled kettle - works for me :)
Well unfortunately I'm out of milk right now and have to have my instant coffee black and I find it foul without milk.
The Mrs swears by it.
Milk first always! (for instant)
I just add milk first, have a awesome time at pax xx
That's what I do
Calling every day tips and tricks "life hacks" IS pretentious! Thank you! Gotta love the RUclips herd mentality! ;P
Doesn't just an Iced coffee make it that much easier?
I can see that, but cold water doesn't dissolve all of the instant coffee... I have tried this.
I think the major problem is getting the powder too hot; so, don't use boiling water... just really warm water, and it will be fine.
Nasty spoon adds a lot of vitamins. Don't worry
Milk first job done, though do it with tea and we will have an issue.
Bitter coffee is the life itself
Wait a sec, you din't slurp. Isn't it compulsory to slurp any hot drink loudly once you get grey hair?
Lol Ive been slurping since I was a lil kid
