Our group of 24, went to Myrtle Beach for 30+ years. So you two have a destination for years. We played 36 every day for years, do to the aging process, then it dropped to 27 at the same course. We drove down every trip from PA, so as time went by, that’s why the trip dissolved. So many great courses and memories.

My cousin lives just outside Myrtle Beach and plays on the Grand Strand tour on a league. The 4th course you may be thinking of right there by Caledonia, Heritage and True Blue is Traditions (which I've played, great course). When I go up this year we're gonna play Caledonia and True Blue ( which is my cousin's favorite course on the Grand Strand).

Correction, the other 2 courses right there by True Blue are River Club and Willbrook.

    Gents,
Really enjoyed the podcast and the recap of the 18th at Caledonia! Can’t wait to see the whole series, but especially “that moment”….”GET IN THE HOLE”!!!. Thanks for mentioning the Battle for the Bracelet, means a lot to the family. Keep up the great content.

You won't regret the True Blue/Caledonia 36 day. You will see more Tobacco Road inspiration in True Blue. Strantz was a genius. Dunes Club is a must play. Oyster Bay is another gem just across the border into North Carolina. Another hidden gem is Long Bay. It's a Nicklaus track with very demanding green complexes.

Although I haven't been to this area since 2019 (and would love to get back there one day), I absolutely adore Myrtle Beach when it comes to playing golf. Even though I am not very good or strong for that matter, I just absolutely love golf down there. The conditions of the various courses are pristine, the views are breathtaking, each track provides it's own challenges, the staff at each venue are very welcoming (I have never had a negative experience anywhere that I go), and etc. There are many more superlatives that I can give this area for golf. It is a golfer's paradise. It definitely does help when you work with a booking agent (that is what I do because I play the specific packages and they are really good deals in my opinion). Some of the courses that I have played were Beachwood, Azalea Sands, Arcadian Shores, Eastport, Sandpiper Bay, Indigo Creek, Wicked Stick, Black Bear (not in existence anymore along with Waterway Hills), Kings North at Myrtle Beach National, The Legends Resort (Heathland, Moorland, and the other one I can't remember the name), and many more. If you want a real good challenge with nice views and a place that has multiple courses on property, it may be a long drive from where you were staying there at the time, but the Cats Courses at Ocean Ridge Plantation in North Carolina is a must-do trip. They have Jaguar's Lair, Lion's Paw, Tiger's Eye, Leopard's Chase, Panther's Run. All 18-hole courses with challenges galore. You guys would have a blast there even if it is a challenge. I have plenty more memories of that area, but I have given my 2 cents worth. I hope you guys get a chance to go back and film more great content there because it is a golfer's paradise down there. I miss going there and would love to go back and see how it has changed in 4 years. It makes me sad just thinking about it because it has been so long. Next time I go down there, I want to experience the courses at Barefoot Landing.

Hey Guys, Great suggestions and feedback on courses that you played at Myrtle Beach! In October-2022 I organized our 'Old Gs From The Bay' Mens golf trip to Myrtle, and like you said, we used a local organizer - Golf Trek (Ben) and they did a great job for us! There were 12 of us and for all but 2 of us, it was their 1st time going on a destination golf trip out of the S.F. Bay Area, so everyone was super excited. We started with: Day 1) Myrtle Beach National King's North - an absolutely gorgeous course and layout; Day 2) Pine Lakes Country Club - a really fun yet Historical course (est. 1927); and then we finished at TPC Myrtle Beach - Challenging as hell but worth the experience.
I'm already working on our return trip for September-2024 and Ben at Golf Trek has also recommended some of the exact courses that you guys mentioned. We're looking at doing: True Blue, Tide Water, Barefoot - Dye, and Thistle Golf Club! There are just so many to choose from, but we keep looking forward to new adventures!

Rivers Edge is a great course that's certainly not easy. Prestwick is a semi-private that's not overly difficult but was a lot of fun with great conditions. I do an annual trip with some friends. This will be our third year this October. We play 10 rounds in 5 days on 5 courses. 2 man scramble in the a.m. then solo in the afternoon. TPC and Caledonia are my two favorites that we've played down there. Both were great experiences with one exception. Caledonia was busy the morning we played there and they had us start on 10. So, 18 was the climactic moment it was intended to be. That said, my tee shot landed center cut in the fairway perfect distance. Approach shot landed just off the left side of the green. Chipped within 5 feet and made my par. Ended the day on the really short 9th with a chip-in from just off the fringe. Airbnb is a great way to go as well. Especially in late October. Courses are virtually empty and rates are low for airbnb rentals.
Have also played Shaftsbury Glen, Glen Dornach, Blackmoor, The Pearl (meh), Sea Trail Jones and Byrd (meh), Farmstead (great course but it is no longer).

If you dont mind a lower end course. Whispering Pines is literally across the street from the airport. lol. Been going to Myrtle just about every September/October for the past 17 years. Best place to go for a golf trip. Awesome fun courses and very reasonably priced (definitely got more expensive the past couple years but still pretty good. Playing TPC, Caledonia, True Blue this year among a few others. Legends is another great complex, three awesome courses.

Hook & Barrel is awesome, been going since they opened. One course you must play is Wild Wing Avocet- it’s a hidden gem and I’m a member. Let me know and you guys and play as a guest for a great rate.

Being going to MYB for 34 straight years with three excellent friends. I think we have played everyone course in the area at least once and probably 10-15 that have closed. The first time we played Caledonia was probably 25 years ago. We were all around 10-12 handicaps at this time (aging hasn’t been kind). One of guys is a low keyed left handed player who talks to his self after bad shots really under his breath kind of talk. He was not having a very good day struggling with hitting greens and not getting up and down. His favorite thing to say is “I hate this game” and we all laugh because we know that soon he will say” I love this game”. We get to 18 after he doubled 17. He hit a five wood off the tee and it was hooking toward the lake but stopped about 5 feet from going in the lake. He said damn ball should have gone in because it probably will on next shot. They’re probably 10-15 people on the balcony cheering all the shots in and they were oiled up. Mike got up to his shot pulled his club and dunked it for eagle. Two hops and down. Those guys went wild. They met him as we got to the green and basically cared him up to the porch like he was emperor. The three of us finished the hole took the clubs to the car all without Mike who was on the porch celebrating with his new found Jersey boy friends. Unbelievable day for him, one he will never forget. A few year later he had a hole in hole at tidewater on a par 3 where we could not see the ball go in the hole, not sure what hole it was. The ranger was up by the green and he through his hands up in the air when it went in. He was more excited than Mike

Great review guys!! Been playing Myrtle every year since 1994 and 17 years on a buddy trip (24-32 guys).
    - The Dunes. You have to have to have to play The Dunes, #1 on the Grand Strand hands down
    - True Blue. You guys will love it if you loved Caledonia and Tabaco Road.
    - Wachesaw is another private course if you have a way to get on is absolutely awesome!! (not Wachesaw East which is sister public course used to play on LPGA tour back in 90's/2000's)
    - Thistle is a must play and my group loves Thistle and requests it every year we stay on the north end. Plus its 27 holes for the guys that want a little more than 18 but not up for 36. Great club house, great carts, great service, a very scottish feel to it, just top notch experience
    - Pawley's Plantation. Stunning golf course. Hard. Been closed down and re-opening in Oct 2023. Toned down and improved conditions as I understand it.
    Some others of note:
    - Glen Dornoch. Always a favorite of mine with great holes along the Intracoastal, 9 & 18 share a green on the waterway, very budget friendly bang for the buck, 17 & 18 is toughest finishing holes on the Strand
    - River's Edge, really really far north but great layout
    - Prestwick, sneaky good and sneaky hard
    - So many other great master properties to check out:
    - Legends (Heathland, Moorland and Parkland)
    - Ocean Ridge Plantation (Tiger's Eye, Leopards' Chase, Lions Paw, Panther's Run and someday Jaguar's Lair), Tiger's Eye used to be top 5 for me, Leopard's Chase is tough tough course
    - Barefoot Resort, Dye course and Fazio two best by far there but all 4 are great
    - Myrtle Beach National, King's North is the one to play with lots of signature unique holes
And there are literally another 10-12 4.5 star courses not even mentioned and another 25+ 4 star courses.

MB is a golf mecca. You can spend a month at MB and not play all the courses.
First time I played Caledonia, on 18, there was a huge group on the patio chanting "wet or dry"...I jerk my approach shot dead left and almost ended up in the parking lot.
The guys on the porch routinely take bets on who will hit the green and who will make putts,

I lived there for seven years and played those courses multiple times. At Barefoot the Love is the easiest to play. I rate them from best to worst, Fazio, Love, Dye, Norman. I would suggest you play the Fazio instead of the Dye because the Dye is very difficult. It's the polar opposite of the Love. The Fazio is a great layout and a good test but it won't abuse you. The Norman is nice enough but kind of boring in comparison to the others.

  • @zeker434
    @zeker434 Год назад

One other option, if you want to pack in one more round, is to schedule an afternoon flight home, and reserve a morning tee time at a course with shower facilities near the airport. Then on your last day, check out of your hotel, get a quick bite to eat, play your 18 holes, shower up, and head to the airport. We haven't done this in a while, but Pine Lakes was a good course for this.
One caution - DON'T buy a cheap towel from one of the dozens of beach stores. We figured we'd do that and just ditch the towels. I swear, not only do those towels not soak up water, I think that they literally repel water.
