This is where Travolta got his look and mannerisms from for grease!....I’m sure it is? Alan Paul = beast mode and wonderful performance from the whole group.......greatest vocal group period ❤️
I checked the dates once, the Manhattan Transfer variety show ran the August, 1975. "Welcome Back Kotter" ran the next September. I'd bet Travolta was very familiar with Alan's GREASE.
I see the Lennon Sisters at the very beginning and end, you should upload the section with them singing! Amazing that they and Manhattan Transfer crossed paths here, they're both favorite harmony groups of mine!
Shortly after this was aired, Cheryl Bentyne replaced Laurel Masse (the redhead) due to Laurel's injuries in an auto accident. Cheryl's incredible voice and Tim's continued musical vision launched the group to new incredible heights.
TMT has undergone----------as many groups who last, do--------3 primary iterations. The 1st was the '72 group & album, lead by Gene Pistilli . Tim was there, they had very definite " creative differences " , so they all went their own ways. --------# 2 was in '74, with Tim, Janis, Laurel & Alan -------and, # 3 was when Cheryl joined in late '78, when the group decided to head West , minus Laurel, who wanted a solo career, loved NYC, & was recovering from injuries suffered from an auto accident. --------so, once in LA, they held auditions for that 4th voice. Cheryl Bentyne was the 8th and LAST, audition. She did " Candy & Blue Champagne " with the others, & bingo, musical magic ! With Cheryl's voice, the group went on to do " Extensions" , by far, their most ambitious album , which included " Birdland", & " Body & Soul" , both with new lyrics by Jon Hendricks. Grammy awards followed, & TMT was on their way ! RIP, Tim Hauser , the Founder & MD of TMT. ------------SAD to say, but for me, the 50th anniversary CD is a terrible disappointment, the very 1st for me of all of their albums & CD's. Just terribly disappointing. Maybe, it's just me. Could be. --------From '76 to '95, I saw TMT , to the best of my recollection, 10 times, but it may have been more. ---------I recall one time when one of the ladies , cannot now recall who, had a terrible cold, didn't know if she'd make it through, & just SANG HER HEART OUT ! What a class act, they always were. RIP, Eldorado Caddy ! -------MJL, 76 y/o
Gene Kelly - Fred Astaire and Ed Asher were the male guests - not sure who the girl group is but they look famous enough lol.......😋😎 Bing Crosby wasn’t present 😊

Just bought their latest ..."50" What style and talent the group still have.
Alan's "Gloria" never fails to bring the chills...and now a nostalgic tear or two. Thanks for all the beauty MT!!

I’m with you. Sad to see them go, but it was time. The replacement for Tim, just changed it too much. No disrespect to him.
0:18 Sitting on the right in a pink shirt is very likely Eugene Pistilli himself, the founder of the very first line-up of the band!
I think that is Gene Kelly from Singing in the Rain.
@@jimbo32965 I agree! But they are very similar! I just thought that Pistilli shaved off his gorgeous mustache!))
To Mike's left were Gene Kelly, Fred Astair & Ed Asner.
This was before they really took off!
Wow look at those legends bing crosby I know those 2others but can’t quite remember em

@@bronzemen34 The "girl" group was The Lennon Sisters from The Lawrence Welk Show.
They must have had one heckuva wardrobe expense.
