The big empty space used to be kwick save, opposite was a notorious pub "welcome home". Somebody got killed there 20 years ago so it was closed down. I used to work down there, and used to walk to work from the bus station at 5.30am, there were still dealers and working girls at that time. I have never thought it was that bad down there.
About 30 years ago pill was voted the worst place to live in the uk. My cousin worked down there and when I picked him up he always said I hope your car doesn't breakdown or the traffic lights are not on red.
According to the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD), Newport has some of the most deprived areas in Wales. Pill, Somerstown, Maindee, Stow Hill, Duffryn all in there. That’s most of the centre of Newport. Newport always a dive. I recently saw a punch up outside Spoons there early in the morning.
The big open area by the zebra crossing is the old car park for kwiksave . Back in the 90s kwiksave used to be really busy . Its no longer in use but alot of people hang around by there (i think of you came back in the warm weather you would see alot more people) The remains of the old building with the metal framing im sure was an old pub but got closed after a man was stabbed and killed there . 2000's ? Was this in the morning ish when you filmed ? Seems quiet for pill tbh

When visiting these areas you really need to spend a day and a night there to get a real perspective, things are different at night. Would make better content too...
