Sarfarosh is a 1999 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film written, produced and directed by debutant John Matthew Matthan. John started working on Sarfarosh in 1992. Seven years were spent on the research, pre-production and production till it finally released in 1999. As a first time director this film is an achievement in itself. The film deals with an Indian police officer's quest to stop cross-border state sponsored terrorism.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Ajay Singh Rathod played by Aamir Khan, who is in lead role and gave a memorable performance. Although he is an IPS officer we don’t see his entry scene as action scene, as usually we see in Hindi commercial cinema, he just played with his nephew and living with his parents, late brother’s wife and uncle who running the clothing shop from the home. This movie has realistic set-up, realistic action, no unnecessary drama but movie has all the elements which are present in commercial cinema, like songs, love interest, A-list stars, big budget etc.
