Thank you so much for this. I'm really considering this for EDC and as a carry on. I've been looking for a review like this and for some reason nobody else does it. One additional question, does it flatten out when empty? And over time has it become less stiff from when you first received it?
I wouldn’t say it goes flat. The padding on the back is pretty significant and the thickness of the materials make it somewhat thick even when empty. I think it has held its shape pretty well, it seems to be just about the same as when I bought it.
The two small pockets in the main compartment should have been up top or upper middle imo. A lot of pockets overlap and take space from each other especially on the bottom half

Do you know what's the max water bottle size that will fit in the water bottle pocket with the bag fully filled out?
I can fit my Owala 24 oz (easy) or 32 oz (snug) bottle packed out on the outside bottle pocket 👍
