Sounds really close to the real thing! Crazy how far amp sims have come
After years of playing both the real thing and sims, sound wise its really close but also feel and guitar player interaction it's nearly getting there. Having said that I will happily play both in a studio but live it will always be the real amp for me personally. Only because that is what I am used to. Whatever works per player. Great video as always
Rob I knew you’d love this one, it does sound very authentic it’s become the main one I use in amp hub, and it’s been perfect for practicing Chimaira stuff with all the great tabs and play through videos on your RUclips channel! And man all the badass Chimaira songs in this video! It just sounded perfect!
Awesome Samuel! I agree man, and I'm stoked you're jamming Chimaira riffs and digging the vids!🤘👊🎸
I tried in my head to picture it with dubbed guitars w/ mixing|mastering etc. I think it’s pretty close and just sounds good in general. They’ve came a looooong way with sims, I remember back in the day trying them in the studio and being like “nooope!”
I freaking love your videos, when I'm down I watch your videos to kinda calm me down, thanks for being such a positive fountain of knowledge bud!
Hey I appreciate that bro and I'm happy to help!🤘
Sounds killer. Love seeing you play all those awesome riffs aswell.
You should do a video of you playing some resurrection tunes with the amphub ENGL tone so we can relive 2007 again 🤘
Yeah man I've been meaning to check out that Engl!
Wow, sounds damn close. I got my 6505+ because “that’s what Rob Arnold uses,” and I don’t think I would be able to tell the difference. My main complaint with amp sims in general is the feedback, how they feel different from a real amp, and the dynamics, the response if that makes sense… but they’re getting better all the time.
I hear ya, but I think personally the more I'm playing with them, the more I'm simply adapting to them, and not missing the responsiveness of a real amp. Now that being said, if I were to head out on tour and use a half stack every night, I'm sure what I've been missing would present itself quickly! haha
@@RobArnoldWorld true! All that really matters when recording is the end product. The sound and convenience of it makes up for it. Would rather use a real amp during practice or playing a show, but it’s anything goes when recording.
I purchased my 6505+ and Mesa cab because of Rob too. I used it for a week and it's been sitting untouched because I haven't really gotten back to playing but when I do, I'm ready to go!
@@IndependenceGuitar For sure!
@@SeanColey Awesome! Still a killer rig to own whether you're playing it or not! It's a head turner!😎
All these awesome songs in one video 🤘
🤘😝🎸
Oh man this Impossibility of reason riff is a monster!! And the plugin sounds Absolute killer, need to check it out!
Sounds pretty damn good to me! I'm not sure I have the proper ear to tell the difference when it's this close. Awesome riffs as always!!
Right on!🤘
sometimes i have to quit watching your videos because of how many sick ass ESP M guitars you have, my head nearly explodes.
Haha🤘😝
STL are great. I brought the Andy James STL plugin a couple of years ago which I highly recommend.
that does sound really close, i love it! actually just picked up my first 6505+ since i figured out that was where your tone was coming from, love it so far! thanks for having those settings available!
Right on!🎸
My pops shaped the way I take in and enjoy all music. I let him check out my vinyl copy of the age of hell and he REALLY digs it. Now he's almost 70, and what a cool moment to share with my musical hero! This is a lifelong memory for me. Thank you Rob for just being a cool fuckin dude!🤘🖤🤘🖤🤘🖤
That's rad Bruce!🤘
Sounds absolutely sick! I can’t tell the difference at all. Awesome video as always 😁
🤘
Sounds like a good amp sim man. Looking forward to learning more about that company as well
Omg those riffs still send me chills with how badass they are. I miss chimaira so damn much 😝😝But I have to agree,I can't tell the difference. You make them sound so awesome 🤘😝keep rocking, and keep em coming
👊😎🎸
AWESOME!!!!! PURE HATRED!!!!
Awesome video Rob. I think people would struggle to tell the difference unless shown directly. Appreciate all the Chimaira riffs too, time to pick up the guitar and learn some! 👌
🤘
That sounded incredible. Great for demos and getting a pretty close sound to what you’re used to!
Sounds GREAT!!
This was killer.
👊😎
It sounds great, but also the way you play makes it sound tighter. Greetings from Argentina!
👊
Thanks for this video and sharing your settings.
I personally use the ampcraft 1992 sim from kazrog, it's a 6505 as well
I send the signal to a Seymour Duncan powerstage that goes into my mesa cab, With your settings it sound so HUUUUGE AND MASSIVE 😍😍😍
Super close! Forever my favourite player
👊
Sounds pretty good man. Wish you did a back and forward between the real amp and the plug in
Goddam that tones chunky as f@ck! Didn’t want you to stop playing, loved it.
🤘
Thought it would sound very close in the mix. But it definitely has a great tone. Enjoyed the riffs could totally watch more of that! 😊
2 thumbs up 👍. Sounds really amazing and you don't have to worry about tubes going out. 🤘😀
Haha good call!
Sounds Great ! like the original recordings
The "no-knob" guitar! 😃
Sounds good! Can’t believe you played The Dehumanizing Process! First Chimaira song I ever heard and I was like, this sounds like Altars of Madness era Morbid Angel! Namely the vocals and guitars. Thought I was dreaming because they were playing it on the radio.
That's awesome! And a bunch of us in the band are HUGE Morbid Angel fans!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld Amazing! So you’re going to have to have Mark back on your channel after that little Lamb of God opportunity!
@@petepetrich7828 Indeed! I'm excited to hear the story!
Another Great Video By the Goat !
👊
It’s all about the player 😉Sounds very good Rob! Peavey is a legend 👍🏼
🤘
Sounds sick man👊🏼you should do a comparison with the 5150 evh I don’t use plug ins but everything I was looking up sounded like the only difference between the two are the numbers 🤷♂️killer riffin man🤘🏻
Right on Jeremy! I'll give it a go for sure!🤘
Sounds great & almost not distinguishable. I played along with my Engl, Mesa (4FB) & ESP V307 and was like 99% sounds like a real amp. . . If anything I can give for feedback is the VST sounds like a little too much Fuzz while just riffing around, but while playing it seems to smooth out.
Thanks so much for the video. As always great content Sir!
Nice trip down memory lane \m/
Had fun dialling in the setup into amphub myself and jamming Chimaira 👌
Hope the guys at STL let you have your own presets would be killer!!!
STL dudes if you see this video and comment make it happen
Right on!🤘
Hey ROB! Another awesome video. Thank you!
I assume emg 81 in the bridge? Drop C.
‘Worthless’ and ‘dehumanizing’ literally had me head banging and reaching for my guitar at home. 👍😃
Sounds soooo good!
I don’t know if it sounds the same as when you play live, but holy smokes man
It rocks!
Thanks Todd!👊 And yes sir on the 81 and drop C!
@@RobArnoldWorld
You are an inspiration, sir. Keep being awesome!!
That sounds pretty killer. I can't tell the difference that's for sure.
I say it again, why do they always put the volume knob so close to the bridge? I do the same thing as you, remove the tone and move the volume to that spot. Those M1's with one knob right next to the bridge really irk me lol. Killer riffs as usual!
I gotta say man, I've been playing a ton of stock LTD's lately, and it turns out the volume knob placement hasn't been a bother at all! Maybe it was all in my head?!🤷🏻♂️
@@RobArnoldWorld Some models aren’t as bad, Horizons for example, but to me the single pickup M1 is way too close. Not nearly as bad as a Strat, but I still always hit it while playing. Doing some palm mutes and the next thing you know, no volume lol. Probably just my horrible technique, but it’s always been a thing for me.
@@mcoon1987 Yeah it used to be my pinky hitting it while soloing, and that's when I'd inadvertently turn it down. But for whatever reason, it seems to longer be a problem. Thank god!
MY HERO!!!!!
LOVE YA ROB! YOU DA MAN!
🤘
i knew all Chimaira songs ;D i think in the Mix for mastering what does for Albums had less bass tone in guitars :D
The only real difference I can tell with the plug ins and a live amp is the elimination of interference the live amps can pick up here and there to whereas the plug ins will only get what the pick ups can register. Still totally awesome and killer similarities between the STL 65 & the almighty Peavey 6505+. Definitely recommend this to all players that want killer tones but can't afford every head and cab combination of their dreams and disposal. Awesome job there Rob!🤘🤘🤘
🤘
A A/B comparison would have been great, Arnold! Other than that I think STL is fine but I strongly prefer the Neural DSP stuff. To me they sound more authentic, both in terms of sound and of response.
Sounds great Rob! We all know the real tone is in the hands though…I think you could make anything sound good! I still do prefer to turn on my amps and turn knobs but that’s just me 😊🤙
🤘😎
Love the tone, sounds remarkably close, but that high end fizz sounds like a swarm of bees
After using a 6505+ for years. And now a 5150 . Its close but I can still hear that digital loss in the tone. Yes plug-ins and modeling pedals have come a long way .. but nothing imo can match a tube . Sounds good yes.. but not my thing . The squels just aren't the same on a digital tone .
look into the positive grid spark sounds like a peavey
Bro, do you have a kemper? Would be killer to hear you try these amps out through the kemper then through the real 6505 or going into the power amp of it...Just a thought! I run my kemper into a KSR PA50 and I get sick tones like this no problem, soooo much fun to just sit and riff these days....Not like the old L6 pod ugh haha
I do not own a Kemper unfortunately, but I DO have a custom Kemper Profile pack available for anyone who's interested in checking it out!
👉 bit.ly/RobArnoldTONECRATE
@@RobArnoldWorld I have to say, no disrespect to tonecrate but I never really vibed with their stuff. The STL stuff worked with my setup much better. The lasse lammart packs are exceptional imo.
Still love the Laney, Peavey is a bit fuzzy for me but still technology has come long way. The Laney is just so raw and that goddam space verb is so good haha!
Rob, I think if there was a plug-in version of a Peavy 5150/6505 it should be of you and Matt's !!! The crushing tone you guys had on those albums and live were killer !! Why haven't you had anyone replicate them ??
I , as many fans would probably buy them !!
Right on! I guess because no one has come to us asking to do so! I do however have a custom Kemper profile pack, that models all of the classic Chimaira tones, but the Kemper is a pretty specialized piece of gear that most people don't have.
@@RobArnoldWorld unfortunate I do not have a Kemper just an Axe Fx-3 . I think you guys should find a company or produce them yourself.
Axe Fx or Neural DSP would probably like to have them.
I've been having a really good time with this one.
I ever so slightly, prefer the ML Sound Lab 5150 blockletter in the Fluff plugin.
I don't buy into all the 5150 isn't a 6505 bull.
The only real difference is age and some cosmetics.
Rob, please do a playthrough of Salvation from Self-Titled at some point. Would love to see that riffage and how it's actually played.
Check this out! 👉 ruclips.net/video/ROEiH8IZ3rw/видео.html
You know I feel terrible. I've heard your names mentioned so many times and your music is right at my alley I don't know why I've just never checked you all out, but I hadn't. Until just a little bit ago holy fucking shit you guys fucking amazing and I'm about to go shopping for all I can find one vinyl from you all, but I will settle for CDs. I don't know if it's because I'm 45 years old, but I still prefer vinyl and CD over digital downloads. Looking forward to exploring your library. Again I'm so sorry, it's a Goddamn travesty I don't have all your stuff already.
Hey welcome aboard my man, and better late than never! 🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld and hell yeah response from the man himself! You definitely have a fan here my friend and my total support.
@@RobArnoldWorld I will catch you on tour when you're around the Columbus Ohio area
@@prshess 👊
the tone sounds super similiar but it sounds like any other digital sim it's just missing that warmth a real mic'd amp brings 🤔. Sounds better than the old shit I used to use though years ago for sure
There needs to be a come back............Best metal band of the times.......
Sounds good. But i think the cd mix and dynamics are throwing me off. Definitely shreds and sounds good. And so do you Rob. You’re pretty damn tight in your playing. You can tell you’ve been playing more. Thanks for the vid!🤘
Thanks Mike!🤘
I think its really close to the classic Chimaira tone. I'd record with it, without question. And that's from a diehard Mesa guy.
I think its amazing how clean your guitar is. My M1000 deluxe is 20 years old now and the bridge is a rusted piece of shit lol. Many sweaty gigs.
Haha I hear ya man as this one I was playing here as been through many gigs as well! I just try and take good care of them, and in turn they take care of me!🎸
Very nice, will never get sick of Chimaira. Used to play along with Save Ourselves by ear when the self-titled album came out.
Have you tried the Kazrog 1992 amp sim? Based on the 5150, not 6505+. I’m very happy with that one myself.
No sir- never heard of that one! Is it its own thing?
@@RobArnoldWorld Yep! It’s praised as the most accurate 5150 amp sim to date by quite some users, I never owned a real 5150 so I wouldn’t know, I do know it plays like a real amp! I use it when my 120 watt head is a bit overkill for home practice haha.
Of course usable in a DAW, but also stand-alone since v1.1. Doesn’t need a different program to run it.
It doesn’t “look” super fancy, but it’s easy to use and sounds great. Has a pedal section for noise gate and boosts (but you don’t use boosts right? You can turn ‘em off tho 😉) and different IR options.
I’d say give it a shot. It’s by a long-time Sneap forum member that made some really good plugins before. There’s a free trial and if you end up liking it, it’s luckily not too expensive ($50 now).
Pfew I feel like I should be in marketing, but hope that’s at least a clear story for you now! 😄
@@brunvanderhorst Haha yeah man I appreciate all the info! I'll see if I can look into it! 🤘
@@brunvanderhorst Oh and yep, no boosts for me.
@@RobArnoldWorld You’re welcome!
And yeah, to be fair I never used a boost with my Engl Savage SE either, gain to spare and a gate made it plenty tight. But I’ve played some friend’s amps lately that really sounded so much better boosted. It’s just a tool right, if you need it, you need it. If you don’t, you don’t 😊
Going off memory I actually think the bogart cab is a bogner. The Mesa cab is labeled something like Cali Recti or something like that I do believe. Either way I think the speakers are V30s though.
Yep... I thought of that as well after the fact!
any chance of a chimaira reunion???
Sounds decent, though I usually have the same issues with modern drum sounds. Clicky kick drums, snare is too artificial. A lot of them djent bands have the same sound imo. Though I loved how Deeds of Flesh recorded their Portals to Canaan album, blended a lot of the new and old school tones.
Oh ya the solo in Army of Me was killer
ok.....soooooo who's manager we have to speak to to get you guy's back on the road........... like PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.........
This is extremely close! It almost as if it's coming straight from Impossibility and Resserection.
I’ve always wanted a 6505+. So disappointed it’s not in production anymore. This amp does sound killer. If it was a real head I’d probably buy it.
Didn't know they were no longer producing them! That sucks.
@@RobArnoldWorld Peavy is supposed to be releasing the new 6505ll but who knows when and if it will be good. Fingers crossed
@@craven9388 Should be interesting!
I feel in this video it sounds slightly duller/muddier than your usual tone. A quick back to back with your pure hatred lesson video seems to confirm this.
Not sure if the difference is a boost pedal or something in your usual videos or if the modelled amp just performs slightly differently.
Either way, I’m sure you could tweak AmpHub settings to get even closer to your usual tone. It’s cool how close this is already just from you dialling in your usual settings.
I think that the amp sim Meridian 65 sounds a little fizzy to me Rob.
Like an ice cold soda!🥤
@@RobArnoldWorld Lemonade
@@619dar Haha but lemonade doesn't have fizz!
Thank You Rob.
Just
fuckn Thank You.
now....sidenote
let's talk about Mark's Beer Belly on stage with L.O.G.
Bruh........
I Jks. 😜
🤘💀☕
Possible question for EYL. Not sure if it’s been asked before but, when you started learning guitar, did you take any classes or learn music theory? Or are you self taught?
I took lessons for about a year when I first started, then again for about a year a few years later. Didn't really learn anything about theory, just wanted to learn Sepultura and Megadeth riffs! So while I did learn a lot of my teachers, I'd still consider myself fairly self taught. I just studied the Metallica tab books a TON!💪
That sounds beefy 😮
It definitely sounds like the album songs for sure.
Dude, throw a few fx pedals on there and see what kind of madness can be created 😊
Right on Nathan! I agree that it sounds spot on!
I wish esp would make your guitar again and wayne statics in my opinion esp guitars the best they just play so good and hold tuning I owned way back your esp ltd ra600 but it was stolen off my at a gig I remember that day saying please tell me the stole the schecter and not my ltd ra 600 but it wasn't my schecter synyster nope it was the ra 600 the sustain on that guitar was insane dam thing would vibrate your body and sounded so good the neck also was super nice the closest I can get to the same guitar is a m1000 deluxe still doesn't feel like the RA600 but man you designed a machine rob ! esp for life !
Awesome brother! Sorry to hear your RA-600 was stolen, but I'm glad you got to experience one for awhile and I'm glad you dug it! ESP for life indeed!🎸
And let's Bring em' Back! robarnoldworld-3.creator-spring.com/listing/bring-em-back-ra600
Im so jealous of kids starting out on guitar now days. All the resources they have access to, its so easy to get killer tones today. You know how hard it was getting a metal tone that didn't sound like a can of bees out of a Line 6 spider? lmao
Sounds alot like your sound EXCEPT squeels ! I know every song from Resurrection album amd every album before. Rob you changed the type of music I listened too I like slipknot but I 1st was introduced at a live show in Bham Alabama on a Painting The White to Grey supporting tour and ANDOLS sounded like all 3 of slipknot drummers. AND YOU PUT solos back in Metal🤘💯
Badass man!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld The truth is the truth bro when that DVD or Live show from the Possibility of Reason, When u guys played POWER TRIP can't think of the 1st song ....... oh it was Clensation when ya ll REALLY was getting heavier wit squeals and New Heavy Metal Def not Nu Metal. Yall got me into shit like Darko US, Emmure, Suicide Silence R.i.p Mitch and so many others but it was the whole combination Jim, Mark, Rob( u), Matt, Andol amd Chris yall were my fav I can't remember which album I stopped but I saw and met you guys several times 🤟
The verdict is I think you and i should get
Together and throw some riffs at each other.
Rob, love the riffs. This may have been answered somewhere before.......but what are we hearing on RUclips? STL through mic'd monitors or what? Im new to the whole plugin party but I have STL Tonehub and play through a Focusrite 2i2 and a set of Kali LP6 V2. It sounds good but doesnt sound as full and in my face like the videos Im seeing/hearing from you and others. The playback tones Im hearing on RUclips sound better than my actual tones coming from my monitors. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
Hey man! I hear that a lot actually, that dudes aren't getting the same tones from their setup, that they hearing in videos. And while I don't have a definitive answer as to why, the truth is that there are just so many variables. Playing, guitar, pickups, interface, signal chain, monitors, knowledge and experience, etc...
So without being there in the room with you, to see and hear your setup and everything you've got going on, I can't say what the difference may be.
But to answer your question, I'm running straight into my UAD Apollo interface, into Pro Tools, with the STL Amphub or Tonehub as an insert on an audio channel. Then I record what I'm playing, and that's what you're hearing. I export my tracks from Pro Tools, then bring them into FCPX (my video editing software), and that's it!
@@RobArnoldWorld Thanks man for the reply. Are you playing through monitors and if so what kind do you use? So you are recording through your DAW and not with anything mic'd up? Thanks again.
@@SprayingWater Yes I've been using the same set of studio monitors for more than a decade now, and I love them! They're Dynaudio BM5 MKII's. If you want to check them out, you can read more about them on my gear list! imp.i114863.net/RobsGearList
And that's correct with the DAW. I'm just going straight in, and there's nothing mic'd up.
@@RobArnoldWorld Thanks again Rob.
It sounds like a mic'd 6505+ through in ear monitors.
Good enough... song matters also..
Bogart = Bogner? I don't think it was for a Mesa boogie?
It's close, it's very close but I still think the amp sounds a little better.
I think I heard you put your gain on 8. What noise gate do you use for feedback playing at higher volume levels live? I have a Boss noise suppressor and having issues still with feed back.
Oh dude I've been raving about the ISP Decimator for years! It's the best one out there for sure! I talk about it tons of my videos. Check out this video 👉 ruclips.net/video/uFP-NxjirT0/видео.html
@@RobArnoldWorld thank you so much! Going to watch now. I got the 5150 iconic and love it, but the feedback was aggravating me LOL. Thanks for all you videos and the great music you have come out with!
@@lancefreimann4842 Right on man! I had ordered the Iconic but it took too long to come back into stock, so I cancelled my order.
I was hoping the built in gate would be great, but I guess it's not?
@@RobArnoldWorld for me it only gets rid of that hissing sound but that’s it. I do like a lot of gain and put it on 8. I had volume up high too about 4 or 5 and was getting that loud hum on pauses even with built in gate all the way up. I think I may have figured out my boss suppressor I have so fingers crossed it does the charm. It’s a great amp, definitely try it out when you have the opportunity, I think you would dig it.
Using simulators just really isn’t the same as a real amp.. you can mix and master it all you want, but i think it looses that punch that a proper amp gives you! And going too digital isnt always a good thing, if its not broke dont fix it!
tasty riffage
AMP IS NASTY! IT WILL MOS DEF WORK!
You should try a fender mustang GTX series. Would love to see you rip on one of those. Cool tone sharing capabilities
Sorry for the dumb question here but what guage strings are you using?
I use a custom DR set 11-52!
@@RobArnoldWorld thank you sir!🤘🤙
