Thanks for sharing your experience. I actually just had to replace this same part on my S. There's a drain tube below this chargeport door that can get clogged after a few years, especially if you leave the car outside and charging in the elements a lot. When the water can't drain, the electronics for this part just sit in the pooled water until destroyed. The chargeport itself is fine, but the door will continue to act up/fail. It will be interesting to see if the dried out part will work again.
Great breakdown. I hade the same intermittent fault on my charge port door after the first heavy NJ ice Strom. It developed an intermittent fault. Same as you couldn't open it from inside the car. Only could use the key fob to open it. Prior to having it serviced Tesla pushed an update which overpowered the door and broke something in the mechanism. Because it was a CPO 2017 MS while fixing the door they chipped my tail light. So I got a new light and charge port door in warranty.
I agree. Parts costs on MOST items are fairly reasonable. Labor cost not always. Take charge port for example, took the mobile service tech about 30 minutes, install was over $200 and $85ish part cost. Tesla charges $175/hr. So overcharge on install, yet price is pre-determined and could not be changed by him. BTW our Wisconsin Service centers and Mobile Service are absolutely TOP NOTCH A+ Rock Stars.
@@KmanAuto Disagree about overcharge on install. Every shop does those by time estimated. I had a left outer taillight done by Tesla for $500 and it took maybe a half hour. I had purchased eBay used part for $100 but it probably would've taken me several hours for the labor.
replace the variable resistance SV01A103AEA01R00 on the circuit board of this part (need to cut open the module box) will guarantee to address the issue. The resistance costs about $2.
@@RichiB2012 The port wasn't changed. The Door & Door Mechanism was changed. Two different components. If the port is changed, then yes, the lights would be fixed. The lights are just cosmetic, wouldn't waste the money unless the actual port is having issues.

I do like that they don't typically overcharge for parts

Do you have more info on this?
Did you also have the problem that the blue and green light didn’t work on the charging port ?
That's common, wouldn't waste any money fixing it. It will eventually happen again.
@@KmanAuto did not changing the port fix the light ? Sometimes my lights come on but mostly not 😢

It is simple. Just fill engine oil inside at full
