The Flick Pick - Movie Night: I watch the classic TMNT Movies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) and The Secret of The Ooze (1991). Retro Movie Night - The Flick Pick - Movie Review
No future installment will ever come close to what this movie did. Its still way ahead of its time. It hits the you where the heart is, the dialogue and camaraderie and the action is unforgettable.
For the longest time I thought Secret of the Ooze was the best film, until a few years ago when I rewatched the original. The 1990 film is a forgotten classic, it was the first movie I ever watched in theaters, and almost 25 years later it still looks great.
Did anyone else ever notice that Danny ALWAYS had a different Sid Vicious shirt on?
Blu-Ray King 90 is easily the best
I love the first movie so much. It still hits me hard whenever I see the scene of Leo sitting on the stool with Raph unconscious in the tub at the farmhouse. I really want to get a tattoo of Leo on the stool.
The funniest part was when I used my Shredder and Michaelangelo action figures to perform a stop-motion video called 'Mikey Vs. Shredder: Mortal Kombat style!'.
My memory is my older brother giving me his old tmnt toy and that is what got me into the series.
I LOVE YOU FLICK PICK
Never seen the movies, but I'm adding them to my list. I have nothing but great memories of the Turtles. Watched the original cartoons in the 80's, and I t was one of my favorite shows 😊 As an adult I got to design some toys for the TMNT license--it was awesome!
I have a picture of me and my family at Disneyworld 1993 and I'm wearing my Donatello t shirt.
Hey John, if you were ever a Turtle fan as a kid, and you want to know about it you gotta see the 2014 documentary - Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Goes from conception to comics, to the toys to the cartoon to the first 2 movies. You'll love it. Recommended for all.
You forgot the pizza
John, never change
Gotta agree with you about the third Ninja Turtles movies. That's why I only have the first two and 2007 TMNT. I like to think of that movie as the true third installment after the first two.
An infamous scene i remember is from ninja turtles 3. A turtle giving mouth to mouth to a peasant child.
Anyone Remember when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were on the Power Ranger?
That episode was my jam when I was little! No one believed me when I said there was a female turtle. Now I wish I forgot too..
Digital2Film power rangers in space was the shit.
Digital2Film, I do! Hell, I even have the episode!
We don't talk about that one.
I got a portrait done on art corgi! Thanks John!
some of the material of the History of the TMNT in recent years talks about the first ideas. Two comic guys were coming up with ideas. One of them sketches a turtle and gives him a little ninja outfit and nunchucks and says "heh", then the other guy likes it and draws another version. and The Shredder was after one of them put a cheese grater on their arm
In sixth grade I dressed for school with t-shirts with Ninja Turtles images. I was the only one doing that and I don't like to generate attention but I felt compelled to use those Ninja Turtles t-shirts. And the teachers allowed me to dressed like that so that was one of the few good memories from school.
A good thing - I still own Secret of the Ooze on VHS, and I remember myself dancing like the turtles when they started singing Go Ninja Go
A bad thing - ... I don't have one! I think...
Another great Movie Night Johnny Flickstarter!
Remember back in 92.the ninja turtle gummies that were in the plastic casing, then after you ate it, you could make ninja turtle ice cubes, ninja turtle chocolate, ninja turtle jello! It was radical!
3:26 is when the video beggins... omg
Shit that's halfway into the video. F That!
When rewatching the first two TMNT movies, I always have to get pizza. First movie, the scene where they sit down to eat and Leo cuts it, I pause and order one and start it back up once I've got a slice. The second movie, I can't even make it through the first minute, that opening where everybody is eating, have to have pizza beforehand.
I remember in 1990 when the movie first came out I got the poster in the form of a puzzle. I put it together and had it framed in my room. I don't have it anymore though.
No, they weren't drunk. One of them drew a sketch of a turtle wearing a bandana and holding nunchucks. And they weren't in a bar, they were in there living room. Come to think of it, if the original sketch was a turtle with nunchucks then I guess that makes Michelangelo the oldest.
Did you do something different with your editing? It looks good, but I think you should slow it down a bit.
The first ninja turtle movie was very gritty and to be honest it had such a realistic vibe to what New York City is really like ! Even tho this was rated PG it had a dominant strong adult tone ..
I remember watching this as a kid, yes i loved them ! But i remember i was actually scared as a kid, in the scene when Rafael was screaming because the Foot Clan kidnapped Master Splinter.
This movie captured my imagination as a child.
I thought maybe the new turtle movie would bring that back to life .. Unfortunately i was wrong ..
Hollywood needs to step there game up.. If you are going to do a remake do it right .. Bring back the authenticity of New York City along with the characters .. Bring that to life !
No CGI
6:28... It's like in Robocop 2 where OCP stuffs Robocop's head full of incredibly silly prime directives, to make him more kid and family...friendly....yeah.
I remember watching teenage mutant ninja turtles 2 on vhs all the time. It was probably one of my favorite movies at one time. I still have it on vhs. I wonder if i would still like it.
Ninja Turtles are cool cause they are strong and sensitive models for the kids (they cry in the first movie and they are still badass) with distinctive likable personalities. However, what's not so cool is that I was having a hard time to be as skillful as them when roleplaying with my friends, except when eating pizza. Oh and eventually I outgrew them just for a while, which was sad.
That wasn't the origin of how the Turtles were created. Eastman and Laird we're goofing around after watching bad late night tv. Eastman (as a joke) drew a turtle with a headband and weapons. Laird drew another version to up the ante. It went back and forth and the next day realized they had something.
i love "Secret of the Ooze" it's just a unapologetic fun and silly time. And I know you need that ever now and again, it's ok, don't be scared...
My best ninja turtle memory was when I was walking back from school and find a lenardo toy in the ground it was badass
Hahahhaha
The same thing happened with this film as with the 90's Batman series. Parents complained and the studio decided to appease the parents and toy companies. So we got Batman Forever and TMNT II.
Best TMNT memories : TMNT (2007,Movie) TMNT (2003) TMNT (2012) TMNT (1990,Movie)
Worst TMNT memories : TMNT 3 And out of our shells
I remember just loving the tv show. I always sat in front of my tv like three inches away just to watch it. I remember some the episodes really messed up like one in particular accidently mixed up a couple of the turtles' masks. And sometimes even the voices. Like Raph and Leo would be wearing the same colour mask and stuff like that.
I remember seeing the first Turtle flick when I a kid, it was sold out everywhere, but I finally saw after going to 4 theatres haha.. The first one is my favorite, its dark and Shredder was a badass especially when we first see him on the screen!! Part 2 is fun but the first one is the best. The 3rd is a turd lol.. I also remember Ninja Turtle green filled vanilla pudding pies from hostess
Hey John my favorite part I when Michaelangelo says " ninja pizza, banish quickly without trace" hahaha that's my favorite line
Vanish
Movie Night basically starts at 3:12
I literally just bought the blu ray last night and watched it this morning!! Now in my sub box, guess what John's watching for movie night? ahah
Turtles rocked....2 I agree somewhat but enjoyable...granted no weapons sucked but the action was very good an zany. Some of the choreographed scenes were great.
I guess it was close to the cartoon as possible. But having non cgi stunts were great to see again. I loved the intro with Keno and the subplot of the TGRI was nice and so when the Shredder, "I challenge," appears.
I think they did the best job possible considering the studio wanted to sell toys. Shame they didn't want to spring for Bebop and ROck. And YES! Ice Ice Baby Rocks to THIS DAY.
One other thing I liked was the movies were fun while the first was action oriented and gritty. I find that the movie was very quotable....not sure why some of the lines didn't become cult hits...like
Shredder: Babies! They're babies!
Shredder: Go ahead. Attack me if you will. When it is over, you will call me Master!
Raphael: [to Tatsu] You know, if I had a face like yours, I'd try to make up for it with some sort of personality!
Splinter: "Go Ninja, go Ninja, go!" I made another funny! Ha ha ha ha!
Just example of the quotability of this movie. Many great quotes even part 1, "A Jose Canseco Bat?"
Enjoy your work....love Turtles 1 and 2,,,,glad they never made a part 3, most likely they would have done something dub like send them back in time or something.
BTW, Paige Turco was hotter than Megan Fox.
Video actually starts at 3:28
This man needs 10000000000 subs
Hey John, where did you pick up your theater seats?
Fun fact about Steve Barron who directed the first film: He also directed this awesomely fucking cool music video -------> Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
VictoryNYC fun fact about Micheal Jackson he liked to touch Little kids
I heard they made the 2nd movie more family friendly because parents bitched about the dark tone of the first movie.
Playing with the action figures. I had like 10 batman so they were the footclan. Oce my brother made a turtle lair out of cardboard boxes.. amazing.
The good: tmnt comic books, 1990 film
The bad: everything else
The 2K3 Show is IMO the best; had mature storytelling and layered characters while still keeping the fun of classic pizza-loving turtles. An example of that show's greatness is the episode 'Same as it Never Was', I recommend watching it, thought it's the darkest in the whole show.
I remember the Samurai Rabbit Usagi Jimbo being one of my favorite side characters of TMNT cartoon. I had two Usagi figures, one my dad bought me and the other was a birthday present. It would be decades later that I found out Usagi Jimbo was actually a cross over character from another series. Interesting.
Worst thing about TMNT, the villain's death in TMNT 3 where he just imploded into the water as he was falling.
Btw has anybody ever read the "Sky Highway" issue of TMNT comics. That was a trippy fucked up story about a hellish dimension that turns humans into mutant freaks and is nothing but endless highways.
Where did you get the back to the future car???
I have the same transformers t-shirt
Love the LED lights!
Raphael has always been my favorite. He's the Kevin Bacon of the group.
First part feels like a ad
I remember when I was like 9 I saw the season 1 and 2 marathon and after that the first episode from season 3 (2000's series). That was amazing (exept for my mom complaining that I hadn't gone outside that entire weekend)
The good memories
Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles (1987) cartoon, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles (1990) movie and Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles 2: the secret of the ooze.
The bad - Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles: The Next Mutation, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles (Michael Bay remake)
I understand why people hate the third one - but I loved it as a kid and rewatched it recently - it's not as bad as people say - the original is my fave no question a kids film that doesn't talk down to them
The second was ok fun kids film third was a risky chance that sadly didn't work - shame - I've yet to see the new one we don't get it till 17th October here in the uk :(
3:13 is when the film starts
Ninja Turtles rule dude!!! Love the channel!
Almost 4yrs Later and stil an Epic video 2 a Epic Film!
That pic o' yours the altered one looks straight up BA!
The worst TMNT moment ever was the tour they did. It makes me shiver just thinking about it.
I started watching this channel 4 years ago
I ran to hide behind the stairs the first time I saw Tokka and Rahzar, lmao. I was like 4 or 5 at the time ;~;
+Jerry Diaz They're still scary.
What did you think of the 2007 animated TMNT movie?
Totally using art corgi
Love the Heroes in a Half Shell!
I remember, even at that young age, wanting the ginger minge... yes, I just said that.
The warehouse danny goes to when he runs away reminds me of the island that pinnochio goes to in the animated pinnochio. Where they are playing pool and drinking and smoking and they get turned into donkeys.
corey hamby haha yeah it always reminded me of that
Hey man what did you think of copland with stallone? I just watched it and realy liked it
One time, I asked my mom to chop off my fingers and just leave the index and pinky fingers, so I could have three fingers like the turtles. How's that for dark and twisted? And I was like 5-6.
The 2003 TV series is excellent. Quite dark and mature too.
I love the flick pick!
I said my first cuss word while watching ninja turtles. I was 5 and I called my mom a bitch (I had no idea what it meant)
What did she do
Why?
Let's forget that Happend by reading the history of Darude-Sandstorm
Sandstorm" is a 1999 song by Finnish Techno producer and DJ, Darude.[1] It was released on November 15, 1999 in Finland by 16 Inch Records, and re-released in Sweden in 2000. "Sandstorm" was the best-selling single worldwide in 2000.[2] On March 1, 2010, over ten years after its release, the song was certified Gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of over 500,000.[3]
FIFAFever
My 20 year old cousin stole my VHS copy before I could watch it
That intro hahaha
Please do a Jeepers Creepers 1&2 Review Flickster!
The third was kinda great because they got to use their weapons
Be gentle...foundation of our childhoods
video doesnt start until 3:14
Hey john because I'm a dumb ass I've decided to ask you my question for your next Q and A on this video and my question is if you had to rank all of Christopher nolans movies from best to worst what would they be and why btw love your videos your my favourite youtuber
One day I was trying to be Donatello because he´s my favourite turtle, so I got my mothers broom and twirled it around pretending it´s a bo staff and I made a wrong move and I hit my head with one end. It hurt like hell.
Embarrassing moment as a child, I saw a vid on ku klux clan and thought they were followers of the pope
When's the next movie night?
That opening, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
I remember when they teamed up w/ the Power Rangers lol
Now I feel like watching these movies and eating pizza!
Well i'm gonna disagree with ALL those people who would claim TMNT 2 as a "shitty terrible awful movie".
What's good about TMNT: the brand new film, 2003 Cartoon, and the 1990 film
What's bad about TMNT: TMNT 2 and 3
Your surely a very young kid that say FUCK to practical effects because too much into all CGI "transformers" used more these days. In a way, thanks, seeing your comment makes me laugh and happy to being a kid in the 80s lol :P
The one person to dislike the video probably was in the third TMNT movie..
Also, I like the TMNT 2007 movie too its a underrated film
Darude- Sandstorm
welp i change my mind i love tmnt 1 2 and 3 now
so i come to find out, you feel the same as i do, "THE THIRD MOVIE IS BAD"
officially subscribing. well done again
The third movie is under appreciated
I had the biggest crush on Raphael... I don't even know how to explain how or why
the new nick cartoon is actually kinda rad
3:51 What's Michael Jackson doing with that helmet?
Hey john I saw all your remotes you should check out the logitech harmony smart hub it comes with an easy to use remote, and you program it all on your phone and it's only like 100 bucks on amazon I'm really happy with it.
the very original, will ALWAYS be the far superior
