Yes it is a negative look and we hope that this stirs up conversations so that youth aren't drawn to this life. This is the addiction to KAVA and we hope to show that it is like the addiction to any substance though it is not seen that way.
We understand that this is what is happening and if this music video gives you an uncomfortable feeling about our local youth then its playing its role so that we can continue to motivate youth in becoming better protagonists in society and not like these.
We got to start the convo somewhere!
We did this in one spot and to see the youth being able to dress it as if it were shot in 2 locations is amazing. If you look past it all, dressing up sets is an amazing gift and these boys were able to do it with old strip lights from their bikes and old lights laying around. Power of improvisation!
Oh and the bars are just butter talking about 3 villages Tiapapata, Afiamalu and Tiavi. Now known by many young people as "Tamaiti mai le Aisa" in reference to the weather being cold.
About the Shoot-
We filmed it with a Black Magic Pocket 4k Camera with only a 7.5mm lens.
No gimbal, no stabiliser no fancy lights.
Took us 2 nights to shoot in our garage.
The boys are our families and friends in our village. Those who have masks on are younger than 18 which is why they are wearing masks. The rest had the choice too.
