To raise up to that size I would have around have around 50pcs but I would start with many more. There would be various selection along the way and the numbers reduced.
Another reason to get rid of males is that I find that they tend to be a lot more prone to body ulcers / bacterial infections in the same water with females that seem to be completely bullet-proof.
@@Ricky_Stoddart_Koi I don’t know what it is, possibly something in our city water supply but the males sure do not like it. I have started setting up tanks at friends’ farms who have wells with pure water to house my koi. Whatever the problem is, it definitely affects my males disproportionately to my females, especially in the larger fish.
Wonderful video! Just curious what the dimensions of the 3500 gallon pond are? Thanks Ricky keep up the great work
Thanks, those ponds are 20 x 8 x 3.5.
How are the fish so calm?
Greetings from South Africa.
Hi there, we use anaesthetic in the water.
so the koi with the dented head, wouldn't fill out with growth?
No it wouldn't.
very nice thanks !
Our pleasure!
Ricky How many Nisai (50-60cm)koi do you raise/have in a single 3500 gallon pond of yours?

I’m sorry but I can’t agree with that. That’s something I’ve never encountered in all the years I’ve been doing this.

Why are Shiro Utsuri so mental?
Black and what fish have always been the same. Not sure why but it’s a real problem.
