YES!! The best clip to find out how the DW Classics sound like. I've been chasing a clip like this for months. And boy, those poplar/mahogany shells sound great! Of course it helps when Marco is the one hitting them. :D
"He's ok, but a little heavy on this and too heavy on that..." REALLY ?? , this guy is a master and I just wish I had his "heavy" foot, hand etc.. There is absolutely NO level of skill that would escape the criticisms of all the self proclaimed "experts" out there. You guys "think" you are all the greats, rolled into one magnificent percussion package. Just undiscovered yet. Unbelievable ! It's just a shame that Marco, Buddy, Portnoy and all the aspiring, upcoming drummers couldn't take instruction from you guys and get rid of these nasty traits. But, until the lessons can begin, the world has you and we're all grateful for that. With that said, Great job Marco, I admire and love your stuff. No advice from me.
At that age still was better than 99 percent of drummers in their 30s... if it wasn't for his early death he be playing that speed and greatest into his late 70s
I don't know about you guys, but i would kill to see Minnemann VS Morello. Eh? I mean, we would have to deal with the universe exploding because of the intense awesomeness that would come with said battle, but it's a small price to pay.
I like Marco's version very much. He's got great swing and solo ideas and did a great job and i consider him an influence in my playing, but being myself a jazz enthusiast, I favor jazz drummers versions and even tough, I prefer this version over Tommy Igoe's. You guys check Buddy's of course but also check Dave Weckl's.. It's amazing! Peace y'all!!
It's kind of hard to visually recognize Marco because he's not smiling and doesn't have a beard or long hair. But this is easily a video featuring some of his best playing.
I think the reason why people call Marco 'mechanical' in this case is because he's not playing a real jazz kit, sounds more like a standard rock kit to me :).
Man, you have not a single clue what you´re talking about... Most (if not all) Swing Era drummer played big kits. Post youtube comments is easy. Go listen some music now.
chill out man, honestly the only thing off to me is the snare SOUND, not the way he plays it, but really the sound it makes, which is more appropriate for rock. He was not referring to the size of the kit, but to the sound of it
Yvan Cluet yeah most usually tune little higher than this, not just the snare but the entire kit but there's no rule to how it should be now adays. It's art so anyone can express themselves how they want and everyone has different preferences. Marco usually does like that mid tuning and he does listen to a lot of rock so it's no coincidence it sounds like that but not all jazz players now a days like super high tuned tight drums. Most but not all. And same with not all rock drummers like huge deep ass toms and finger tight low ass tuning and bright ass cymbals. A lot of rock drummers nowadays love dry cymbals and some jazz guys use brilliant cymbals mixed with some dry cymbals. Everything is more acceptable everywhere nowadays which imo is awesome. It differentiates people within the same genre which otherwise would all have the same drum sound in the same genre. That's what makes music great imo.
It's daft to have the rhythm section so far away from each other, it's a real testament to Marco's ability he's able to keep time so well considering he can't even see the bass player from his position.
Whats wrong with Marco playing the song his style and his way? Why would you say its bad because its not like another drummer? Why would it be like another drummer?
atascado como los de su clase y todos sus seguidores quienes dices que rifa,.,., al ver este video me doy cuenta es un simple mortal mas,..,. y la neta se escucha una cruza de tiempo al igual que entra mal de sus feell`s! ,.,.,. MARCO"! sigue practicando!!!
Nicely played, and of course WAY better cops than I'll ever have. He just needs to learn how to 'drive' an arrangement and play in context. It's only because jazz and big band in particular were not his foundation. Still, the guy is a friggin' awesome beast.
I don't get the thing about "Buddy would have played this or that different" or "Buddy wouldn't have liked this". It isn't Buddy. It's Marco Minnemann. And I've never been a fan of Buddy Rich as a person. After all what I've read, at times he was a real asshole.
@DrewdogG8 actually he sounds like a damn good jazz player. It doesn't sound mechanical at all. I feel like you're just saying that because it's Marco and not because you're listening. If you're going to talk about feeling though mentioning Buddy is the wrong person. He was mostly about technique and definitely not the most emotional player. Arguably the most technical yes but emotional no way.
I agree, it's kind of odd.. but I think Bob just isn't familiar with talent. Look up talent at google and Marco will be the first your see. With a Cookie Monster shirt on.
not bad, but he's too mechanical - not enough feeling when he's playing this kind of music. watch buddy play them (or any true jazz drummer), it sounds completely different.
Marco may not be a pure jazz player, but he does a pretty good job here. A testament to how well rounded he is..dude has quite a resume
he’s a pure artist
Thank god for guys like Marco, because now I can hear in reality what I sound like in my dreams...
Is it just me, or this is the very best Marco video that he's not smiling and pouring joy on everyone else?
Absolutely amazing.
YES!!
The best clip to find out how the DW Classics sound like.

This is one of the best videos on RUclips
Awesome!

WoW!!! Love this drummer ;) And that music..
Listen to Marco Minnemann on the track, "Il cuore del campione" by Adam Nitti. He plays unbelievably. And in a jazz setting.
WWWWWOOOOOOOOWWWW I have a new favorite drummer!!!
always great Marco
At that age still was better than 99 percent of drummers in their 30s... if it wasn't for his early death he be playing that speed and greatest into his late 70s
I love that this dude toured as Necrophagist's drummer
pretty damn versatile
I don't know about you guys, but i would kill to see Minnemann VS Morello. Eh? I mean, we would have to deal with the universe exploding because of the intense awesomeness that would come with said battle, but it's a small price to pay.
solo starts at 5:25

Marco is a beast!
I agree. Well played.
So wait, what exactly is wrong with his performance?
He's not buddy rich. That's what's wrong.
@@troyb4533 😂
@@troyb4533 but so good
Perfect
I hate this guy...he's so good.
And yet nowhere near ass good as buddy
It's kind of hard to visually recognize Marco because he's not smiling and doesn't have a beard or long hair. But this is easily a video featuring some of his best playing.
beast
L orchestre est super quant au batteur son solo est monstrueux !
Nice
he even lost control of his stick on the beat. (the stick fell on the snare drum perfectly on beat) 7:20
now that was amazing. Jesus

yes...i know swing, working drummer. don't get me wrong, he's great (satriani stuff is awesome.
NASSSSTY stick catch at like 7:21
Whats wrong with Marco playing the song his style and his way? Why would you say its bad because its not like another drummer? Why would it be like another drummer?
He's doing a drum solo just like Miles Teller from Whiplash. Mike Portnoy can also play Jazz.
thumb if you put you mouse over that little thing that came up from the bottom anticipating a close button
Wish the saxes listened to him.

Y acaso antes pensabas que no era humano?
Nicely played, and of course WAY better cops than I'll ever have. He just needs to learn how to 'drive' an arrangement and play in context. It's only because jazz and big band in particular were not his foundation. Still, the guy is a friggin' awesome beast.
Ralph Hale I wouldnt say that, Marco was playing in jazz band from the age of 8 all the way until he was 25.
wake up
I didn't know that Christian Bale was a drummer some years ago
I don't get the thing about "Buddy would have played this or that different" or "Buddy wouldn't have liked this". It isn't Buddy. It's Marco Minnemann. And I've never been a fan of Buddy Rich as a person. After all what I've read, at times he was a real asshole.
he does fine. a little heavy on the bass drum
fine...??? Man, he is a absolute master and does EXCELLENT job!!!!
Andrew Chaplowitz That could be cuz of his heavy background. Marco goes on to tour with Necrophagist, Kreator etc (very heavy bands)
Not cookin' enough imho. You can tell the saxes want it to be faster lol. Swings more than many modern drummers who do these gigs.
@DrewdogG8 actually he sounds like a damn good jazz player. It doesn't sound mechanical at all. I feel like you're just saying that because it's Marco and not because you're listening. marco es la marravilla, sin embargo en este tema no quedó del todo convencido.
Obviamente, era un recital de jazz. Igualmente esa batería suena espectacular. Uno de mis fav.
buddy would be so proud
I didn't know Morgan Freeman played sax...
Square
portnoy what?
he has a very odd swing style
You know Swing? You listen to swing? In between youtube comments I mean...
I agree, it's kind of odd.. but I think Bob just isn't familiar with talent. Look up talent at google and Marco will be the first your see. With a Cookie Monster shirt on.
Buddy is a better Jazz drummer while Marco is a better all-around drummer.
Thanks for that comment. Exactly my opinion!
Buddy is a better drummer, all round, jazz, whatever you want, Buddy is the best.
I thought he was Christian Bale
not bad, but he's too mechanical - not enough feeling when he's playing this kind of music. watch buddy play them (or any true jazz drummer), it sounds completely different.
Every drummer sounds different... would be boring if everybody sounded like BR, right?
Sorry Marco, not this time...
You're an exceptional world-class drummer, just not for big band, or at least this chart!
lol
Where’s the fuckin jazz drumming!!!!!!!!
good but not Buddy
I don’t think Marco even likes jazz music
