    JF 17 is a custom made aircraft for Pakistani airforce with the intention of matching F-16 as a benchmark with low operational costs and unit costs and with the idea of block building for future upgrades.
    it worked out so well for PAF that they went ahead confidently marketing it to other customers as well.
    as for China it didnt fit their doctrine and having invested already on J-10, and Flanker derivatives like J15, and J-20.

    JF17 was not selected for PLAAF because they have a large area of operation due to size of their country. It was ideal for PAF who have a relatively small area of operation and provides them with an economical platform with which they can integrate a variety of weapons.

      If China need to replace J-7 they will better choose J-10C then JF-17. Have you check JF-17 Life it's only 4000hrs. China have money and better option unless Pakistan not have that much budget for better Fighter jet. Few months back Pakistan was running for Mig-35 but then rejected due to crippling economy.

    You have to give Pakistan Kudos for developing their home grown fighter like India with the Tejas and no matter what their fallacies, we have to bear in mind that these are developing nations and not modern industrialised powers so every step is a step forward.

    • @dranzergigs8333
      @dranzergigs8333 3 года назад +24

      You can't compare jf 17 with Tejas. Tejas was completely designed by India with its own money. Jf 17 was made as a joint venture between Pakistan and china. It is safe to assume that it was the Chinese who contributed the most when it comes to funding and technical expertise. Jf 17 should be compared to the su 30 mki. An R & D department is working which made it reach to block 3 with help of china..
      2ndly, Pakistan is also working alone on Project Azm which is a 5th gen fighter jet.. Although it's a term plan and slow process.. Majority of Tejas is bought from overseas, like radar, engine, avionics, even the missiles it will use, etc. Jf17 is all domestically produced by china or Pakistan, nothing nothing bought from others. That's the difference. India basically designed the shell only, and it's a samosa and no one is envious of the shape. And even just that, India has so many problems and doesn't even want it for their air force, they'd rather use Russian or french jets etc.. same as indian tank and anything else India designed. India far prefers other countries versions since indian one is far inferior in specs, also not reliable and breaks down far quicker.

    It would be interesting to see another video once block 3 is out. With an aesa radar, better avionics, more use of composite material, irst, helmet mounted sight, ram coating and integration of pl15 and upcoming pl21 missiles, this could be a very formidable fighter plane. It’s no f22 but would still pack a very serious punch, especially for the money it costs.

    Excellent video as usual. Also, it might be that the PAF placed much more emphasis on A2A roles than strike ones thereby opting for a platform that can be rapidly built and fielded in sufficient numbers. This would’ve saved time, money and other resources that modern multi-role aircraft need. By limiting the requirements and simplifying the design, the planners made a smart move thereby opting for incremental improvement over the service life.

    • @SandiegoRockstar

    Signore, you are, as always, spot-on in your analysis. It warms my heart to know that someone out there knows what they're talking about. I am considered somewhat of an expert on military aircraft myself. I am not in your league however as I don't possess even a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, let alone a Master's. I have however, semi-diligently studied military aircraft for thirty years. I am glad to see that your analysis of the JF-17 is similar to my own because sometimes I get asked on Quora about the JF-17 because there are a lot of people (especially in Pakistan) who think that the JF-17 is the ultimate fighter.
    Of course, I must tell them that it is not (The Saab JAS-39 Gripen is, IMHO), but that it would be comparable to a MiG-29 and that for defending the skies of Pakistan or other countries of similar means, it is perfect. I point out that its low cost is a great feature which allows for better numbers but that it is an older-type cruciform/elevator design that is inferior to the modern canard/delta. Some don't like to hear this but I point out to them that China designed the plane and they have chosen not to use it. They prefer the J-10 Vigourous Dragon which, of course was based on the IAI Lavi and is a modern canard/delta design. Still, I point out to them (and quite rightly I believe) that it is a far better thing to have three JF-17 Thunders than a single F-16 Fighting Falcon. Since they fly both planes, I'm sure that Pakistan would agree. Without significant numbers, an air force cannot function because any plane lost to bad luck or accident would be catastrophic.
    The JF-17 reminds me a lot of the Northrop F-20 Tigershark with Falcon-style wings. It's not just the visual appearance of the plane that reminds me of it but its role as an inexpensive but relatively capable fighter that was designed by a global superpower that was to be export-only. This was of course the role of the F-20's predecessors, the F-5A Freedom Fighter and the F-5E Tiger II. I hope that you will critique my statement as you are the only person that I have encountered online who clearly knows military aircraft better than I do without bias.

      The JF17 is never claimed to be an ultimate fighter, even some PAF pilots claim that F-16 is superior in some aspects and Jf17 is superior in others. Jf17 is a balanced plane with tremendous features like aesa radar, sd-10, pl-15. The jf-17 also allows Pakistan to avoid any future political sanctions and spare parts issues, it is an aircraft tailormade by the air force engineering department themselves. The J-10 is a medium weight fighter with larger fuel reserves which meets the needs of a large superpower like China. China has Different requirements therefore China does not need or want to induct jf17. However, other countries have inducted jf17 and still many others show interest to do so. A remarkable achievement by a struggling economy like Pakistan..

      @@henrikg1388 Its either American camp or chinese camp. The Chinese use of implanting sneaky malware into infrastructure like 4g and 5g towers should mainly concern India. American Diplomats like Henry Kissinger have mentioned that america doesn't have allies and only has it's interests and right now it probably doesn't want another war. If I'm right, one of Trump's elections promises was to get American troops back home. Trump ruthlessly targeted huawei to target china, the man shut down government and declared state of emergency because of money for building a wall that he said Mexico would pay for. I thought the intake was meant to reduce supersonic airflow to subsonic, since few jet engines can handle supersonic flow. It does this by reducing supersonic flow into subsonic, but high pressure flow, and it keeps the shock wave away from the engine compressor face, sometimes even using the shock wave to compress/slow down the intake air.

      @@i_Nxt The technology of JF17 is not as advanced as that of F35, but their positioning is indeed very close. They were all set up in the late 1990s. Chinese engineers referred to many of his design concepts:
      1. Strictly control prices and use the best project management to control project costs, so that countries can buy and use.
      2. Use development software architecture to facilitate later management
      3. It is positioned as a multi-purpose attack aircraft, and it is not the first requirement for air combat. It can cooperate with the main fighter aircraft of the country to attack the opponent
      Different from the project management, the F35 was not supplied until around 2015 because of the continuous addition of demand during the development period, which caused the project to delay. The JF17 is from simple to easy, continuous iteration, continuous update, while producing, while concentrating the latest requirements to the next iterative version, to ensure that the project can proceed as quickly as possible. Now version 3.0 has been tested.

      No Henrik, even a few hundreds are enough when complexity and cost of fighter platforms is increasing in real time. Jeff provides a good combination of low cost and practical tech. More than meets the eye is a good moniker. The basic platform is good enough to get the job done. And its tough enough to keep flying when more complex platforms become hanger queens. And you can keep upgrading it. Bill Sweetman was a fan of this approach. Of course, the designers must have considered that the Jeff is a direct competition for the Mig 29 and to a lesser extent the Mig 35 platforms. The value for money is more than competitive.

[5] This was designed specifically for FC-1 with increased thrust and relocated gearbox compared to base RD-33's, although the increase of thrust decreased the service life of RD-93 to 2200 hours from RD-33's 4000 hours. According to Air Commodore Mehmood engines are solid and reliable: “We’ve flown 7,000 hours with the engine and we haven’t had any problems”, he said [6]

      There is nothing to compare Chinese JF17 used by PAF with HAL Tejas and Saab Gripen.
      Gripen E is going to cameout in 2022-24. While Tejas Mark1A by 2021. Tejas Mark2 is going to come out by 2025. JF17 block3 might came by 2022-24 as claimed by Pakistani pages.
      Both Gripen and Tejas goona use same engine Ie Ge414 and Aesa.
      JF17 Block3 gonna have same under power engine ie base RD93. So thr will limitation to power Chinese KLja Aesa for JF17. While Tejas Mark2 goona have inbuilt Jammer and Electronic warfare capabilities. Pakistan may have to sacrifice one hardpoint to mount Targeting pod again. Than there are some other limitations also. What is point of increasing its hardpoint from 7 to 12 when max carrying payload is same? Assuming JF17 sacrifice 2 hardpoint with External fuel tank. That will leave 2 or 4 hardpoint to have BVRs to mount?. What of rest hardpoint are for? Arming them with WVRs also would decrease its TWR further to some 0.3. Assuming JF17 has so called combat range of 1200km. Why there is need of external fuel tank?

However one question always come in my mind, why can not more hard point be added into the air frame since it has decent amount of payload capacity meaning if the aircraft have to conduct pure air to air missions it can carry more than 7 air to air missiles just for an example, where weight of each sd 10 missile is around 200 kilo grams according to my findings.

      probably aerodynamic imbalance? But there's this concept of "Dual pylons" or "Triple pylons" . The Pylon is externally connected to the Hard point and can carry 2 or 3 Air to Air missiles, increasing the total number of missiles carried by the fighter.
      Dont think JF-17 however has the ability to carry dual pylon.

    • @VuLamDang
      @VuLamDang 4 года назад +2

      because beneath (or rather, above) any hardpoint/pylon there is support structure in order to handle the weight and aerodynamic load of the stored munition on the pylon. more hardpoints lead to heavier wing structure. However the problem you state can be mitigated with racks and multiple launchers mounted to 1 single hardpoint; the US planes fly with them regularly.
