- The full tour of my tropical garden in Malaysia - see the big range of aroids (anthuriums, philodendrons, alocasis, dieffenbachia), heliconias, ferns, begonias, huperzias and many more that make up this cosy little tropical garden that's less than 1,500 sqft.
Dr Francis Ng, the 82 year-old renowned botanist visits and gives nuggets of botanical wisdom and shares the history of plants, the nursery trade in Malaysia, and naming conventions of plants along the way. He had also written a book on Tropical Horticulture & Gardening.

He's the brilliant teacher who sets you straight with botanical facts, not trends. This has been a refreshing joy to watch! Thank you, Irene!

I always enjoy your garden tours. Thanks for inviting Dr. Ng, I really enjoyed the tour of his rooftop gardens (plant collection dreams!). By the way, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any Hoya in your garden - are you a Hoya hater🤔
The last tree looks so much like a bay leaf tree we have in the Caribbean. It’s smells so spicy n fragrant.
Hi Irene, we just visited the Secret Garden this morning after viewing your video on that wonderful place. I have not being able to purchase that book which you recommended. It’s out of stock at both MPH and Kinokuniya. Thanks for opening your own garden to us.
Irene, I must say your garden is so spectacular and an inspiration to me. You have done an excellent job at creating the garden of your dreams! I hope you make a video soon on how you upkeep your garden. I only have 200+ plants, and I find that I am always watering! 😂 Thank you again, Irene. You are inspiring, teaching, and changing the world! 🤍 Love from the U.S.A.. 😊🌱
Hello Ben, what a heartwarming message! I feel enslaved to my garden and plants to be honest! The visitor POV is so different...it is difficult for me to sit back and appreciate...when I look at my garden I just see a lot of work that is still waiting to be done! Plants not yet placed correctly attacks my pest in a dark corner and needs to be moved....new airplants not yet hung in a bright airy spot...baby platy waiting to be moved out of mommy's board... fertilizing. Yeah ok I might do a video on the grunt work behind! It will not look pretty!
@@leafing.around Just with your begonias alone I would be overwhelmed! It does take a lot of hard work and effort, but I know the pay-off is having such a beautiful garden! I hope there will come a time soon when you can stop and appreciate your garden in solace and calm. I do know that feeling though of trying to sit and relax and seeing everything that needs to be done. It is such an honor to be able to tend to these plants that rely on us to make sure they are thriving in their life! At the same time, it is very hard work. Yeah, I am sure a lot of people would learn a lot seeing how you upkeep your garden! I know I would! I'm trying to get into a good rhythm with my plants, but things change every time a new plant comes home, haha. Again, thank you so much Irene for all you do! Super thankful to learn from you! 😊🌱
Wow!!! what a compliment from Dr Ng for you !!!
Love your sense of humor Irene :
@27. "It nearly died on me & it resurrected.."
😊😅🤣

Stay blessed and happy

You have a lovely garden. So inspiring to watch this video. ❤❤❤
RUclips brought me here and I watched til the end.. Impressive garden and wonderful host!
The plant at 7:17 appears to be Syzygium jiewhoei, which is from western New Guinea. Also- though this is very often overlooked- it's supposed to be 'Alocasia macrorrhizos', instead of 'Alocasia macrorrhiza 😊
Irene your garden is so beautiful and I can say that doctor is impressed as well!💗💗💗
Irene! I enjoy your channel so much. Your passion and enthusiasm. Sometimes I wish it would be easier to compare notes but our climates are sooo different. British Columbia Canada here! Thank you very hosting Dr. Ng. ❤️
I so very loved 🥰 this video Irene, Thank you.
This is so beautiful, I want a garden with deer resistant plants 😁 my deer neighbors eats almost everything 🙄🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
😂😂😂 that's the first time I hear them labelled as plant pest! Here in the tropics we have romantic ideals about them...Xmas, Santa's helpers...😄
@Leafing Around 😅 deer are beautiful for sure, specially in Xmas 🎄🦌🦌🎅 I have videos of deer on my account but here they are a bit of a nightmare for gardeners 🤯😋🌱🦌 once I planted hostas, roses, pansies, tulips, etc and those are like candies for them 😋🍬🌱🦌🤣 OH well that's how we learn 🤷🏻♂️😅 we asked nurseries for a list of deer resistant plants.
Really enjoyed the insights shared by Dr Francis Ng. Spectacular garden as always too! Thank you!
I’m with you Irene I couldn’t stop buying plants ..it’s so beautiful to own them and have them..
Beautiful garden! I hope I have lots of space too
Not the quantity of space.....but what you make use of it!
I recently discovered your channel and I found this video to be so informative and soothing. You have an incredible garden and it was a pleasure to see it alongside Dr. Ng
Thanks! Pls look out for my previous rooftop garden tour with Dr Francis...even more fascinating I think🤗👋
I'm thoroughly enjoying this tour. Irene, I love your sense of humor. You have an amazing garden. Thank you for sharing the botanic garden tours!
Your garden is absolutely amazing! Dr. Francis was such a joy to listen to as well. I was watching the video as I was moving my Alocasia micholitziana 'Maxkowskii' to a bigger pot. The Alocasia Sarian would look absolutely gorgeous in your little jungle, and you live in the perfect climate 🥰
Wow! amazing Heleconia...
I absolutely admire your garden! Beautiful! Your plants are wonderful. I enjoy watching/listening to you & Dr. Francis Ng. I admire you both.
Maybe the ones that you wanted to creep up needed different materials/ platform like wooden poles plus more light. This was very nice giving me 💡 for my garden 😊. I'm only buying plant after plant 😂 my husband on day watering them for me exclaimed that I had about 100-200 of them 😂 they bring me joy.
Irene such a beautiful garden and love the insights of Mr Francis, it was very educational. Also love the untalked about ferns that you have, they're massive and please do a segment on them next 😊
Beautiful place, not just the visuals but the sounds of the birds and insects. Wonderful
I like the way you talk to each others.
A lot of repekt.
I like the way the Dr. Botanist is explaining the problems of the students.
I think, this not only happen in botanique, it happen also in the medicine. We have to come back to nature.

Happy Chinese New Year! I am your new subscriber, a Japanese living in Bali. I am so happy to find your channel. Being a beginner of tropical garden, I can learn from your videos a lot.
