      @@LiamTheTerrible rats prefer orange coloured wire & if you leave a bit lying around for them they generally leave the rest alone. That does nothing for them burrowing into your insulation though. I think it's the only time feeding them does any good at all.

    Liam, I had to get pest control out Last winter as the rats were climbing the rath and plaster of our building... I hated the thought of killing rats.... Anyhoos traps don't work as the rat is to smart... And the poison you buy takes time to kill them but the poison that pest control use kills them more or less straight away... One died under my floorboards so I had a bad smell for a wee while and making sure all wholes were blocked I've had no more unwanted guests

    Here in rural Australia, we use cats or Jack Russell dogs in the hay sheds. Not a rat or mouse to be seen. I’m not sure if your area allows pets, but maybe a couple of cats that belongs to all the units in the complex would provide a rat deterrent without needing water hose killing traps.

    You need to get your neighbours in the other units to club together to buy a bulk pack of rodent bait blocks. You thread a wire through the blocks so the rodents can't run off with them to store later.
    Because they are fixed in place they have to eat the bait blocks off the wire.
    I used to run a pest control company and I've got loads of tricks to get rid of rats quickly but obviously I can't type them online. For health and safety reasons and the risk of crackpots using that info in bad ways.
    Happy to pm you the details.

    Hi Liam, rats are neophobobic they really don't like new things and will avoid them for a while. Try leaving the traps out baited but not set for at least a week or two so they get used to them before you start setting them properly. Also if you want to know for sure if they are in the workshop or not here's a little trick for you to tell, rats absolutely love bars of soap, get a cheap old bar of soap put a hole in it and tie it to a piece of string then tie the other end to a bench or something that's up against a wall and put the soap next to it against the wall. If you have rats in the workshop they'll either chew the soap leaving marks in it where it is or they'll try and drag it off and you will see that it's moved and the string stretched out. That's a sure fire way of telling if you've got rats in there.

    Hi there Liam, I see you are still having problems with rats. I had the same problems and so did my son when he had them in the attic. We both tried putting out a load of baited traps to no avail. We didn't want to but we both put poison out in pet safe boxes (about 15 quid for two boxes and bait off internet they are like a little labyrinth that only a determined rat can get through) and we have had no more problems since then. Ignore the haters, they most probably haven't had a rat in their homes! Best wishes for the new year:-)

    I had same thoughts when I was going to install a full-size shower cubicle. Instead I installed a full size acrylic shower tray 700x700mm (which I trimmed slightly with dremel) & sunk in van floor. Although some additional welding was needed to brace floor so not an easy job. Removable carpeted access panel in floor to cover shower tray. Saves & gains space but still have shower tray & drain if needed. Full size shower curtains hangs on quick release copper pipe square rail. Shower hose connected to home made 12v water heater which hides in cupboard with pull string bathroom light switch to activate pump above shower rail. Shower hose has a toilet deuce spray trigger to control flow water on & off. This is used regularly when travelling & would be lost with out it.

    haha it must be the year for the rodents to terrorise vans, my brother has a luton uses it for work hasnt been able to recently because a mouse chewed through the electric cabling and he cant use his indicators, so he set traps up and was delighted at the sad demise of said mouse, he even took a picture sent it to me and wanted 4 A4 print offs so he could tape them up around where he works to warn all other rodents, (personally think he has lost the plot but humoured him and printed off pictures for his warning posters), said a prayer for the demise of little cute mouse.

    We had a major rat issue years ago at my old workplace (a farm) they grew in numbers in a very short time! To the point they were living under the bonnets of our work vans, they would run like crazy when we walked in first thing in the morning and turn lights on! Now we had a specialist guy vist every week and determined that they were I fact living under ground around the building and it was a hard job to get the buggers, poison didn't work so well as they would counteract the said poison with eating our massive bags of sunflower seeds witch has vitamin d in and would basically help them live! We had rat traps even guys come with rifles and they got a few but still a major problem! They're actually very intelligent buggers. One thing we learned was if you find a nest disturb it and move stuff they hate change, but believe it or not the best solution in the end with all other methods was rat cages, (GAME CHANGER!) You can bait them they get stuck and you get rid. I know what nightmares these can be they chewed wires on a van of mine so trust I know your pain! Hope this helps! Keep ya chin up mate, and wishing you a better happy new year!

    • @alanhat5252
      @alanhat5252 Год назад +1

      yep, live traps are much better, you know what you're killing then.
      Shrews you should keep because they chase everything else away. You can't cage them though, their metabolism is so high you'll starve them.

    • @alanhat5252
      @alanhat5252 Год назад +1

      Yep, everyone's different & some people really appreciate a shower.
      He's right though, they do usually end up getting stuffed full of wet coats & random junk that doesn't fit anywhere else. The solution is a collapsible shower that's right in the way when it's assembled, someone in the comments is saying they've got a shower tray below a removable panel in the floor & they use a full circle shower curtain screwed to the ceiling. I'm going to put mine in the doorway when I build my truck out, I don't yet know how I'm going to avoid getting a van full of steam though.

    Hey Liam, I totally agree, I am refitting my van (again) as we speak. And I just use the entrance as the shower by way of a shower curtain. I am, however, building a drying cupboard for shoes, gloves, hats, coats and head-colds for winter - just redirecting the blown air gas heater to a wee space at the back - so much more useful. Always appreciate your vids, since watching, you've helped me build both my van and my life for the better - Thank you :)

    Hi Liam, Happy Christmas, Get plastic bait boxes for the rats mate, its the only long term solution i,m afraid, especially in buildt up areas like you are in, they are child safe and do not allow cats and dogs to get in but placed in corners and along skirting boards they are very efficient. Rats carry weils desease which kills and I know a person from my local landrover club who died from it. So no please dont regret killing rats as they can do you harm seriously. We have 3 cats which keep our country positioned house clear but in my workshop I have poison bait in boxes, I did that 4 or so years ago after rats chewed a mates camper van wiring I was storing over the winter. That has defiantly reduced rat infestation significantly, I was dating a girl years ago I Grimsby living in a flat above commercial properties the place was riddled with rats, I once walked into the Kitchen and a rat was on the work top and legged it through a tiny hole in the boarder on the wall you could hear them in the walls and ceilings all night long..... Please get plastic bait boxes and use poison all year around to keep on top of your area! It makes sense! I am a country boy I know lol Regards Phil (fit the electric fan) see you on my Harley next year!

I do think if you can make it feel more open, more comfortable and a bit of a change with a nice seating area to look at the fire it’ll make a big difference to how you feel sometimes. It’s funny but through your channel there are a lot of people (myself included) that have grown to really want the best for you. You’re a good guy, I hope you get your own van a bit cosier with the extra space. Such a good idea ripping out your shower and having the lovely focal point of the fire. Enjoy more pork scratching in front of it xxx

There’s nothing better than a hot shower after a hard days work when I would find it a real ball ache to have to go somewhere to get clean and freshen up. Also can’t imagine how I’d cope in the hot summer weather with just a wash in the kitchen sink🤔

On the shower we have one in our caravan and do sometimes use it as like a daily shower. Then when looked at getting a panel van instead van we are considering not having on to save space. Perhaps just a smaller version to fit in pora potti and that's it.

    gotta agree with you there Liam, Showers in a van are pointless. Every vanner I know with a shower room has never used them as a shower.
    Even the few who have shop bought camper vans have never used the shower, the very few motorhomers I know have never used their shower room.
    I bought a £20 USB rechargeable shower, drop one end in a bucket of warm water, stick the other end to the outside of the van .... there's my shower. Used it only twice and that was only to cool down in that bastard of heat wave we had earlier this year.
    Happy new year.

    The van looks so much bigger and better without the shower. Rats are a nightmare and so destructive hope you catch them soon and are feeling better. Look forward to seeing your videos and van builds in the new year and I hope it is a happier and successful one for you.

    We in south Florida and our indoor shower in a shower pan under the dinette and we attach a shower curtain when we want to use it. I also washed my hair in the sink with the shower head and it was great. I plan to camp without facilities to have a shower on site.

    Looks fab Liam, get Rick to knock you up some more storage too , which I think will look great , especially somewhere to house your loo. And you can use the top either for more seating or appliance placement x

    Yessss somebody who agrees with me about showers in a van. The only way I'd install one is just for an addition to my knowledge.
    And they use way too much water so use would be totally done on a limit. Probably another reason why there not used.

      you can get very low flow shower heads & use a 'dead man' trigger that shuts off as soon as you let go.

    I think that I'll answer some of the questions for laim. He's been showering in his mansion, for the last year, because he's a RUclipsr millionaire. He and rich have adjacent millionaire RUclipsr mansions. The paid help actually do all of the work. No vans are actually built. You're welcome. Xo
