The album is Top 10 #GoldCertified. The album won Franklin a 1972 #Grammy Award for Best Female #R&B #Vocal #Performance of the year. It takes its title from the #NinaSimone song "To Be Young, Gifted and Black", which was originally recorded and released by Simone in 1969. In 2003, the TV network #VH1 named it the 76th greatest album of all time.

I have always loved Michael Henderson; however, I have owned this album since it came out in 1972. And the liner notes, which I am looking at right now, say that Eric Gale is playing bass on this track. Only two other bass players are mentioned in the credits - Chuck Rainey, who did the bulk of the album, and Robert Popwell. Any thoughts/clarification? Anyone?
