As someone who literally can't play VR games do to health issues im so happy this mod exists! I can sit and wait for my lecture or play on pc and enjoy the gameplay and story. I know it's not the same experience but its like that be honest I don't care because I can't play VR games and its perfect for me and super fun! I am glad I can still experience this game reasonably well rather than never!
Yeah, it truly isn't. The game really is something else putting you INSIDE these rooms you can explore and what not. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me. Just like Half Life 1 was on in 90s and Half Life 2 was in high school. It's good it's out there to be experienced now though. The story isn't anything incredible. It really is the VR immersion.
I would love to see that happen, but even if it were a new project, Crowbar Collective's experience with the Half-Life 1 remake demonstrates how long these projects can take. They spent over 15 years meticulously crafting and perfecting Black Mesa, ensuring it lived up to fans' high expectations and the original game's legacy. This extensive timeline highlights the complexity and dedication required for such an endeavor. Given this precedent, it’s unlikely we’ll see a Half Life 2 Source 2 anytime soon, considering the high standards and effort involved in developing a project of similar scale and quality.

I downloaded the mod and can't get over how much is lost in the translation without VR. In the headset, its just way more rich and immersive in every possible way, not to mention the controls are fully tailored to it

This is such a cool project and it's awesome the whole game is fully playable. Gives us an idea of what a new, non VR Half Life game would look like with Source 2. So much of the original's game magic and reason to play is lost however.

If i hear one more person whining about how "YoU CaN JUst BuY a Vr HeADSet" or "YOu LosE THe DePth" Like ok i'm glad you're privileged enough financially to spend that much money on a VR headset, ON TOP OF THE $50 GAME btw, but just let people enjoy it how ever they want, when people don't have the money to go buy a VR headset so they use this mod, and they keep seeing people in comments and forums just ITCHIN to say, "its not the same", or "you lose the experience", it just makes them feel worse then they already did. This is basically Half Life 2: Alyx when using the No VR mod. The rerouting of power in the No VR mod is a perfect example of how the game loses all of the challenge because you automatically know how to solve it. Another example is combat, in VR you have to manually reload any firearm you have, with this mod it's literally a one button reload which removes all the tension. That's without even mentioning the removal of all the puzzles that make use of VR. I have no problem with people who have a disability or have bad motion sickness, although there are options to counter that in game, using this mod but those who can play in VR should be playing this in VR instead.
I groaned every time you upgraded to a sight or other aiming accessory. They are good in VR, but the crosshair/reticle in the middle of your screen in this Pancake mode mod is already perfectly calibrated. In fact the sights are *_less_* accurate, as seen whenever you waste an entire cell of the Pulse Pistol ammo spraying around where you are aiming. And a laser sight on the Shotgun? It’s a short ranged weapon. In VR it *_might_* be useful because you can aim it in any direction you can manipulate your arm/hand, like when running up a Combine Charger reaching over his force field shield and bending your hand to point down to shoot the soldier before he levels his shotgun. Especially when there were many moments when you wasted a lot of grenades, loads of ammo, and multiple minutes against a far away Combine Suppressor or Charger which a grenade launcher would have made quick work of. (And the launcher also allows you to carry one extra grenade.)

All that's left is an average and very slow-paced shooter. I begrudge it to people who can't experience VR for certain reasons, but I don't understand people who could experience it but refuse to use VR. It's a game built from the ground up for VR. It offers the best possible experience in VR, simply because of the high-resolution, immersive 3D environments, 3D sound, and the natural interactions that literally suck you into the bizarre world. A real gem of a VR game.

@@3dmaster205 that’s not an issue. I play on an area of 2x1.5 meters, standing with stick smooth turn and walk and use Alyx’s gravity gloves to pull items to me. I guess you live in a room bigger than 3m square meters.
I feel that an approach like Bodycam or Hand simulator is needed. The solid, superhuman, Gordon Freeman-esque FPS play feel isn't what this game needs.

(Alyx upgrades are notable, but laser sights and crosshairs provide significant assistance to AIM) Or BlueShift should be reworked to the same standards as Alyx (the exotics were reworked on the same engine to begin with, and if there is a more natural representation for the character's Lore, it should be moved to that).

I bought Qwest 2 just for this game, got through it, and am selling it now. I'm done with it. If I didn't like Half Life I wouldn't bother buying the helmet. The resolution is bad, the connection failed, the game does not start giving the error “SteamVR runtime failure! Timed out waiting for response from Mongoose.” To just run the game I had to spend 6 hours customizing the helmet and for 4 years, of course, no one bothered to fix critical errors. When once again a technical problem pops up, I want to take this crap off my head and smash it against the wall. Even just to run the game you need to be an enthusiast. And after what I went through, you dare to tell me that I do not like Half Life? The game has its good points, the graphics. But ignoring the downsides is stupid.

Some of these reactions are just sad. Saying this game is better on a flatscreen? Come on, that’s an insult. I get it if VR doesn’t work for you because of health reasons, but honestly, any flatscreen game should be playable in VR-it always looks so much better that way.
You lose sooo much of what makes this special by just playing in on some flat screen at tiny TV scale with the fixed TV display edge boundaries and probably just stereo sound and no proper VR hand interactions and so on.
@@doescolder24 Quest 3s is $300 and I'm sure you can buy a secondhand Index for not much more. The game is also only '5 hours' because it is being played on PC. VR slows you down much more and the campaign comes out closer to 10-12 hours. Quit bitching.
Play time is a spoiler. Hate when people say how long the game is in reviews or you can see how long on the thumbnail of these videos without even watching. Now I'll know when to expect the game is near the end, even though I've never finished it
This is just an issue with RUclips in general, not the youtubers fault and although you have a semi good point with the game reviewers case, I still don't think that's an issue considering play time can vary drastically on a first playthrough, but that's just my opinion

Play time is a spoiler. Hate when people say how long the game is in reviews or you can see how long on the thumbnail of these videos without even watching. Now I'll know when to expect the game is near the end, even though I've never finished it
This is just an issue with RUclips in general, not the youtubers fault and although you have a semi good point with the game reviewers case, I still don't think that's an issue considering play time can vary drastically on a first playthrough, but that's just my opinion
@@spartanbravo1482 yep, but I can still be annoyed by it. And playtime can only vary by a couple of hours at most on shorter games. Would still rather the inevitable ending to be somewhat of a surprise
@@DolphLundgrensDolphinDungeon honestly this is just a preference thing, but I don't mind at least having a small idea of when a game ends, specially if I like the game and the playtime is long so I already know I still have a lot to enjoy, but I also can understand if you like the unpredictability of not knowing when the game ends, for the reviews case, I don't really have anything to help you, as it seems every game review nowadays at least mentions the playtime somewhere, look at steam reviews I guess, if you are ready to lose some braincells
