The line at 29:12 about Animal’s appearance was based in fact. When the show. When it first aired there were complaints lodged by the professional photojournalist organization about the use of the character of Animal to depict photojournalists. Ironically, the role and Dennis Price’s portrayal created such public interest in the field that in time Dennis Price was given an award by the photojournalist organization for his work portraying a photojournalist and raising public awareness of their role in the journalism.
Agree! They should have made more use of Animal, as in this episode. His interactions with the other characters, his dry observations often hit the nail right on the head.
Well, all the dailies in this country are pretty much owned by 6 companies. I'm amazed at the stories this show covers and how the concerns have not gone away. Many have gotten worse.
Sad to know most of the Cast are gone. Even Adam & Donovan who were quite young then. Mrs P, Charlie & Lou. Animal, Rossi & Billie still here!👍 They should do a one off show featuring those 3, where are those characters now, when the other characters Passed & how. The series did end abruptly.
Oh, was that her? She also played the young girl working with Billie in the Company that was polluting & felt betrayed by Billie who she thought had become her friend. At the Trial of her Killer ( can't say Murderer thanks to the Judge ) her Dad shouted at the Judge " Not to our Family!" when the Judge was congratulating himself.
Warren Buffet owns my local newspaper today which I never understood why he would want to buy a dying media format but it is his money. Anyways, we are a largish medium sized city with rural suburb communities and beyond that, around 50 miles, is other largish medium cities. Not big enough for major stories like Los Angeles where they have a nightly murder but something happens at least once a day worth mentioning. Last time I read the newspaper headline, the front page splashed "road trolleys get new paint job and other upgrades". Those road trolleys drive up and down downtown area and most of us stay away from downtown whenever possible because of the tall buildings, narrow streets, limited time on street parking or expensive paid lot parking. I can't remember the specific story but I do remember on the television news about something that you would think you would see on the front page of a small metropolitan newspaper.
While I was watching, I thought I had the whole plot worked out: Billie was going to discover that the businessman who got the calls from the kidnappers actually staged the whole thing in order to get his money back from that building project. I was a little disappointed that it didn’t turn out that way, because it seems like the sort of scoop she would uncover! I’ve probably watched too many police dramas…
Erik Ross, yes, I’ve enjoyed seeing him in these. It’s nice to see a show actually make the cast look like the population of the area where the show is set rather than looking like mid-state Ohio.

Wonder why season 3, episode 8 was deleted off the playlist...?
It's on here separately.
Anyone recognize Jonathan Banks (of “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” fame)?
And "Wiseguy." Also plays a rapist in a later episode.
Banks also played a border security guard in that episode about illegal aliens from Mexico.
The producers of the Simpsons stole Bank's character and renamed him Cletus the Slack Jawed Yokel.
7:00 Sheriff acting as head of FAA and NTSB.
Dominique Dunne (R.I.P)
At about 21:45 there's a cameo by Luis from Sesame Street
Emilio Delgado (Luis) appeared in 19 episodes of Lou Grant as reporter Rubin Castillo
