Supposedly, Dragon Auradin is only a meme that can stomp P1 cows and that's it. We put that to the test and came up with something really unique. Dispelling some of the myths of the strengths and weaknesses of Dragondin, while figuring out what the sweet spot for player diffiiculty is to farm at.

One build which never gets used and completely busted is dual dream lightning zeal sorceress. Masteries (fire and lightning) affect ALL skills which deal the same damage type even if they are from another class. Double dream gives you about 60k damage on a melee hit which zeal deals 5 of (I forgo the runeword which gives access to zeal), a stupidly large holy shock radius and turns the game into a walking simulator with the occasional one shot of an act boss or diablo clone. You must give it a shot

Interesting build, gonna spend a token on that one! Thanks for sharing and pointing out that p8 farming doesnt only refer to hellcows and cs aka the areas in the game with very high hp minions. Stony Tomb is such a great place to farm for density and also fairly well accessible for early ladder chars without enigma.
I came up with this exact same idea during season 2 ladder (early November iirc), just without having a lot of MF. This build is a lot of fun. I went with Flickering flame, Lava Goult for iAS and Enchant, Natalya's boots for res and walk speed and a Frenz Barb mercenary equipped with VG Umed, Guardian Angel Umed, Bloodmoon Shaeled and Plague off-hand.

Very interesting build! I might try it. I am bored of my FOHer, I don't like the killing speed in CS, above players 1. I think this build will crush p3 CS with ease.
For a faster kill speed without the convenience of the prayer/concentration merc, you can change the merc to act 3 lightning with this gear:
Griffons
35 fcr spirit sword
35 fcr spirit monarch
eth chains of honor
This gives him +7 skills for a level 28 static field which has a 21 yard radius, and hits the 86 FCR breakpoint so he spams spells. The goal is not his damage, but spamming static field which gets enemies lower faster for your holy fire aura / FoH / Zeal to finish them.
Great showcase and build Mac. Unless next week comes with a ton of balance changes I'm probably rolling a Pally for S3. Given the state of the economy at the end of S2 it really feels like Density clearing is the only way to maintain value generation throughout the season as so many players are going to roll Bilz and saturate the market with

@@internetperson2 Trust me I'm there. VV the team responsible for D2R got absorbed by ABK right after 2.4 dropped. They have been working on getting D4 Season 2 ready which is the only reason people are still playing it imo. Unfortunately that means that D2R has been on life support and will stay that way until D4 gets ironed out, or Microsoft finds a way to monetize D2R. I wouldn't expect much for awhile, though we have everything they did for us so far so hopefully the wait wont feel too long.
My hit of hopium is that VV turns D4 around and in a year or two enough of D2 is in the core systems that we can all migrate over and let the Battle Pass / Game Pass fund game development long term. a lot will be up to Microsoft though, so in the meantime we wait.
I spent the token last night on this, currently trying to get a ber so that i can make my COH for merc so he has some life leach. Build actually works really well in P8, and even went as far as running flayer and flayer dungeon on P8 pub MF game and had 0 issues. Was able to drop everything really quickly between my HF proc'ing and FOH.
I was able to get up to about 230 MF due to not perfect travs and chancies also dont have all 7% mfsc's

He's one of only 3-4 D2 channels that know wtf they're talking about too. At least regarding ones with more than a few thousand subs - I'm sure there are many small small channels I'm unaware of with other knowledgeable people.
It's a shame the biggest D2 channels have people that know only base level things about the game. Or in many cases NOTHING about online D2

Maybe just mention how bloody expensive that caduceus actually would be online… more expensive then everything in this guys inventory and I don’t even need him to scroll over anything to know that
3 foh 3 conv by itself is extremely rare and expensive and a caduceus on top of that. This is literally a wish weapon.

Oh man, amazing build and fun. But ya, the scepter is hands down the most expensive thing and extremely hard to find in any variant. Be it the war scepter, divine scepter or caduceus. It still rocks even in a phase blade, though not ideal.
That’s if you need the top end dmg. I’m using a variant with a crossbow 🤷🏽♂️😂✅

Loving that this video just came up as this is my target for S3! Question though.....would flickering flame be better on the chr to get the minus fire res? Especially given the amount of fire immunes
The answer is always, it depends on where you're farming. Since flickering flames +3 to fire skills doesn't affect your aura level, you'd actually be better with a 3 fire facet helmet.

@macrobioboi if you're fine "drinking a potion" and don't want/need the prayer/meditation/cleanse stack for replenish life, I find that the act III lightning merc is great here. He can fuel some of the AFK from holy fire tics due to their casting of static field. Conviction breaks most lightning immunities to not need to run a second sunder, and it'll give some use to lidless wall(spirit shield has too much of a str req on the act III merc to equip), spirit sword and a skin of the vipermagi/que-hagan's/ormus robes that would otherwise not see use on this character, also can give use to some nice 20fcr circlets that might be trashed otherwise. Also, ive found the lightning merc to be pretty good at surviving/dealing damage with lvl20+ lightning/charged bolt, and teleports pretty regularly to avoid dmg or position himself near you at more regular pace than the other mercs would pop to you if they get caught by a wall while traversing dungeons.
I love this analysis man, just as I'm pondering playing a single player character for the first time ever due to ability to set player counts. I've enjoyed terror zones and sunder charms but getting tired of p1 drop rates so I'm starting to get tempted.

Single player is the way to go. I stopped playing online initially about 19 years ago. Got back on briefly a couple years back, but haven't done online with D2R.
SP is generally more fun to me, and instead of dealing with people who want to be jerks, spending entire days trying to trade for items, you just play.
@@jameshaulenbeek5931 yeah thats part of the draw, also the ability to set the players count in games. But i guess a big concern for me is a lot of times i end up trading for the items I need for my build via grindable items like pgems, and I wouldn't be able to do that

This was my dream build for season 2 but progress towards the required runes was so slow. I was seduced by the power of blizzard sorc and didnt look back. How do you think this would go in single player without sunders?

I would be tempted to go for act1 cold bow merc, or act3 cold mage merc to give all 3 ele damages, and because they tend to freeze a lot of mobs stationary and that helps foh bolts hit (and is great crowd control).
I collected the runes for this on single, as I barely ever play my paladin anymore (selfcast Holy Shock zealot), but I'm not sure anymore if this is what I want. I was considering many hybrid variants, mainly for leveling to 99, this was one of them (bit more damage focused, I'm on single and my grail is complete as of yesterday /brag/, so probably faceted CoA, trires/mf boot and Cure on merc). What do you think is best for leveling for someone who despises hammerdins? I also considered a FoH build with +3 FOH CTA + spirit on switch with a melee mainhand setup (zeal probably, maybe smite). That would have teleport. And my heart always draws me towards a Holy Freezee Zealot. So a bit thorn right now.

I have a Fohdin on NL that I'd like to try this out on while playing on my Switch (not very friendly control wise so I thought this would be a perfect build to farm while in bed!). PS. currently run a hybrid pala that can switch from any melee based build to a very strong FoHdin and honestly he's amazing, lvl 97 hc
our mercenary is exactly the same, always loved prayer merc, especially because barely anyone uses it so it gets to 'aurastack' with a lot of the other auras in the party

Does hand of justice, dragon armor, dragon shield, dream helm still work? I used to have one like 15ish years ago that was nearly impossible to kill in pvm....
this build is essentially the retirement build, just collect pension items that drop on the ground while doing nothing

I love auradins and one thing I messed around with was the Act 3 fire merc running Hand of Justice, Dragon, dragon to get a second aura going and also having the high level enchant they cast on your pally for damage and AR.
I settled with the Barb running HoJ, Fort chest and a second HoJ or sword with Sanctuary to remove physical immune.
One player 1 solo the auras just wreck everything. Even a merc will clear whole screens and then some.
Thanks for the fun combo of both worlds.
I think this is way better than the zeal/sacrifice variant because you can just zeal anyways

The foh and hammers is good on controller as well
Basically traded the +2 and +4 Combat skills from Enigma and HOZ to get those pulses. Moreover, losing the Enigma is another sacrifice towards your mobility and potential kill speed. I think if your goal is to farm efficiently, better stick with FOH at Chaos (which will clear it faster at P8 and opens up your Aura slot to lets say Redemption for practically mindless farming).
This build might be ideal if youre like lvl 96+ and farm only Terror Zones.
I just keep enigma so i can swap when needed then charge otherwise

easy if you use cheat items like most people out in the game be doing. the only honorable way of equipping a character these days is self found, 97% of high runes are printed by sources that are not players playing the game.
d2r has a pyramid scheme design. back in the day and even today there are people making money off weirdos willing to pay to win. aka children without real jobs.
It is expensive as all hell and not something you are going to be able to do for a good while at ladder start.

I appreciate the honesty about using a hero editor, and don't mind the use of the hero editor, but I think some players, like myself, would appreciate some non-perfect gear being showcased, even if crafted in a hero editor. Finding a caduceus with those mods is insanely rare, for example. It might also be useful as a pseudo-datapoint for you, and give you a better idea of the viability of this build for the average player. Appreciate the videos, just wanted to throw that out there!

Yeah for sure. You can even use war scepter or the exceptional base, the weapon damage doesn't really matter.
Thanks so much for this awesome build. That caduceus is not realistic though. None exist on trade sites that I can find, the closest ones with like just +2 conv and +2 redemption are like 40+ Ber's lol.

Any thoughts on using a Phoenix shield vs dragon? I know you’d lose some fire aura damage but just curious how the enemy fire Res would help offset at all and give you a nice redemption aura too

What about using lightning aura + lightning sunder, aura charms and give merc a infinity to shine two auras at same time? Would it be optimal?
You don't have the points for that and it would not do a lot of damage sadly. The auradin works because of the bug with aura stack items.

Had a crazy luck on the first week of ladder and managed to build a dragondin myself, although with the classic zealer instead of foh. My only question is if dual dragon/dream is better than a pure dragondin.
It has much weaker AoE damage but handles immunes better.
silly question, would using phoenix instead of a dragon shield increase damage on the sundered fire immunes?
No, I believe Dragon gives +15 aura
I doubt it, removing 1 aura tick and 15 levels of the auras is kinda big vs -28% fire resistance
According to Maxroll, it does 403-502 tick damage with phoenix and 489-582 tick damage with dragon. This is against monsters like venom lords in chaos sanctuary after being sundered.
each aura had its own ticks so you take that dps and x3 or x2 if you swap the shields
man i really want to do this in my grail hunt...but good lord the number of SUR runes needed hurts. Also no sunders still. wonder if that would break it

Pro move is using tearhaunch for +2 vigor on really easy areas
My version has dual Dream dual Dragon synergies maxed with Conviction act 5 merc Lastwish Bramble flickering flame and law Bringer or plague Can also run Iron golem with insight or Lawbringner depending on what you doing up to 8 possible Aura I run +redemption on switch buff weapon to switch and refill mana if needed. any thoughts?
It's better to go one elemental damage type or the other. You're missing out on aura level and number of auras due to the bug. People people like it, so I get it.

You already get max level conviction so it seems strictly worse
You can not push your holy fire aura with defensive gc's if the holy fire aura comes from items.

It's bad, you can't synergize the auras.
why pcombs? would offensive aura be better or just more MF and res for ultimate AFK farming?
They help pur FoH HB damage. Offensive skillets have no benefit, but you can always use more magic find if you want slower clear speeds.

So I understand the value of Zeal but.....why does no one use Vengeance with the Dragon or Tesladin build? If you use both Dream and Dragon at the same time can't you pump your resistance auras for the synergies and then do ungodly damage with Vengeance? Literally nothing would be able to survive, or am I missing something?
Vengeance does single target damage and actually doesn't increase your elemental damage. It adds elemental damage relative to the physical damage your build does. It's just a bad skill.
Quick note for anyone watching this for 2.6: Flickering Flame for the merc helm will no longer give you passive fire res (I believe they fixed it).
It will no longer overwrite your passive fire res.

How can soft lvl 17 meditation Aura synergies with the hard prayer Aura from the merc? That's not possible

@@gelbestaxi6663 it's because of the mechanics, prayer aura is a synergie of meditation, every skill in meditation gives you +2 life healed every 2 seconds (you can check out the meditation aura at the paladin skills for better understanding). So for a level 17 meditation aura you get 34 (17*2) more life reg per second which will be added to the prayer aura.
dual dream hoj and dragon with conviction act 5 merc with last wish law bringer Bramble and flickering flame cta plus to med and cleansing for off hand and phoenix for redemption add metalgrid for insight that is 7 active Aura plus 2 on switch

Im pretty sure putting points into energy raises the chance for potions to crit. If thats true a few points in energy on any caster build would be a good idea.
In many circumstances, critting on a Mana potion is worse since you can't actively cast through the Regen and get the most out of the potion.

Swapping Zeal with FoH was really a nice touch here! Honestly melee just doesn't feel that good to play especially without Grief.
Question is have ya tried this similar Aura + FoH setup with Tesladin? Maybe using Crescent Moon for the -LR%, or if we don't care much about Sundered mobs then generic HOTO, possibly 6x Ist'ed Crystal Sword for MF? Or would the damage from Lv30 Holy Shock just too low compared to Lv44 Holy Fire?
It's the Aura Bug and Radius difference that makes Dream a bad option for AoE tick damage. and Thanks!

I reached this video because I thought "Hey, this zeal shit is annoying, I want to AOE everything... what if I'd combine FOH with my fire aura paladin, would I have enough points for it?". And I jumped to the skill calculator and did the math and everything on paper seemed awesome. I looked for gear afterwards and I got more and more excited that I'd finally thought of a new build.
Then I thought... wait a second, somebody had to have figured this out before, I'd better google it first.
And of course someone has thought if it already...
How to have fist of heaven lvl 40 and holy bolt lvl 37 ? I'm doing same build on D2planner I have max FOH 35 and HB 32

@@MacroBioBoi so this season opener I finally convinced a small team to do it but we didn’t get organized enough. We had so 3 auras and a guy running the conviction 24/7. Problem was getting everyone on at same time to benefit. May take a stab at this again as it seems to me if we can push enough radius of conviction then we just need more “tick” to apply.
@@MacroBioBoione more question so if we keep the full dragondin build but include dream helmet or do the normal split of the dream and dragon does that increase actual tick dmg at the risk of adding an extra aura
Seems to make the Dragondin has the best range and I recall you said if we do the full dragondin + run our own holy fire that actually gives you 4 ticks vs 3. You could still have Infiniti running or a partner running full 25 level conviction.

hybridizing is strictly worse. You either want to go one or the other, and Dragon let's you triple the effect whereas dream only doubles the effect.@@kristopherleslie8343

This build with FoH doesn't exist on Maxroll. It's a homebrew of my own.

every single charm you moused over is minimum 10-15 bers, you need minimum of 240 bers for this build. For a casual player this will take several years, for offline, might take an entire life time.
Use worse charms or physical damage charms instead.
How does this do vs act bosses?
Depends on the player count, but you need to deal with some crushing blow to make them go down quick.

Oddly enough this is cheaper than every build that uses enigma and infinity. That's why I've always been confused when people discuss the "cost" of the build. Now I'm not saying it's cheap, just as a comparison point.

First godly char I had in d2r was a dream of mine - tesladin (no pun intended)
It was awesome but it became really boring after some time, I much rather struggle a little and manage more skills with a fury druid than just walking past everything and collecting loot
this is the build i was working on for some weeks now and i couldnt decide on the gear ..tested dual dream ..hoj dual dragon ..and dual dream hoj dragon
best combination with is the "tesla/foh din" since u can wear eni/coh and most foh imunes are not imune to light ..most light imune are not imune to foh
you also get mf from dreams so its more usefull
weapon is just hand of the blessed light (good foh dmg) or cresent moon

I've never thought to do HF with FoH, but honestly I still believe FOH/Dreamer is better. FHR, res, and mf naturally from Dreams and ability to tele with enigma is just too valuable to give up. Feels faster, despite the 3x aura with HF build, due to enigma and lightning res across the game being less restrictive than fire.

play with a friend one does fire soc enchant one does holy fire plai you both buff each other to wack enemies with super stacked fire added damage
the paladin wouldnt buff the sorceress at all. holy fire only adds fire damage to the paladin's attack. The sorc enchant would be strong though.

Yea with a editor sure but in real life and the economy this build it going to take you awhile to build the time i do not have..
Sadly that's most end game builds.
Those damage reduced by 7 and attacker takes dmg, maybe they missed % from the stat, seems too weak, maybe send them a suggestion to change it? also they could make more content for d2 resurrect as it looks better than d4
