    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 💓 ⏰
As others have pointed out, 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' was their first single, music video, etc.
BABYMETAL was still the "Heavy Music Club" sub-unit of the school themed idol group Sakura Gakuin.
It was this video blowing up on social media that helped BABYMETAL start to go viral, especially outside of Japan.
Very much a shoestring budget to begin with.
The girls even taught the Babybones guys their dance moves.
Yui and Moa were 11 when this track was recorded. Su was 12.
They made the music video about a year later.
The song is full of Japanese school girl slang circa 2010.
Fortunately I'm old enough to like whatever I like (including this song) without worrying about whether it's OK or not. : )

Yes as far as I know this is their first ever song with BABYMETAL. At the time, there was no plan whatsoever to make an album out of this fun concept. I think Iine! is their second song and then came Megitsune/Headbanger/Gimme Chocolate a bit later, that's about when they started thinking of releasing an album.

Good reaction. I'm looking forward to your reaction to Shanti Shanti Shanti and what you make of the contrast between Babymetal now and 8 or 9 years ago.
Yes, this was their very first song and maybe the metal and J-pop elements weren't quite seamlessly fused yet ... but see a live version and how well it is received by the crowd as soon as those first few notes play, then watch in wonder as the hairy tattooed metalheads join in with the chorus and the choreo alongside girls dressed up in their Babymetal costumes with their parents doing the same moves.
Babymetal were pretty much self funding here, the budget was very low. The girls' costumes were made up of borrowed clothes and if you look closely you can see the tape they'd used for the bones on the Babybones' outfits curling up and peeling.
You said it reminded you of Ladybaby - this was essentially the template on which Ladybaby were basing what they did and were trying to copy, to follow on and get something of what Babymetal had.

🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻It is their very first song. The producer expect people to consider it "not metal". After considered a lighter or a heavier 1st song, he put this song out first to see how people react. And the rest is history. 💀 💕 🏴 🏴 🏴

    welcome back Dave! :D
as Steffen already posted, this was literally their first track ever! And i freaking love it, there is no such thing as guilty pleassure when it comes to BABYMETAL, you've to accept and embrace it, this catchy song will be stuck in your head for the next few days... that's an undeniable fact xD
Shanti Shanti Shanti is also more on the poppier side of their discography, literally, it's on the first half of the new album(which has a light and dark side, a kind of duality), which is the more pop than metal side, the other half is pretty heavy (and for sure my favorite) still, it's also kinda catchy and Su's vocals are over the top, can't wait to see the reaction! :)
i'd also love to see your reaction to either Shine, Arkadia or for a bit of a wtf moment, BxMxC which is a japan exclusive ;)
    cheers!

@@DaveDoesmoviesandmusic yeah, i've subscribed to the new channel quite early, a few days before the old one was terminated, but the bell didn't really notify me on your uploaded stuff, so i only came by due to my bm reaction search..^^ i've re-enabled the clock now, maybe it'll show me more
also! you've to grab tickets for the BABYMETAL tour in the uk in february 2020, 4 shows, Glasgow - Cardiff - Manchester (which is nearly sold out, only a few expensive vip tickets left..) - London! you've watched many live videos already, but experiencing it in person is still on a whole other level!
thank you for covering all those japanese bands! it's a shame that most of them are still way too unknown!
I've one other band you might enjoy as well, they are called Gyze, try out their mv for Honesty

This, in fact, is the first-ever released song by them. First live performances are dating back to late 2010 or early 2011 I believe.
    P.S.: Nice new intro :)

I always imagine a producer approaching a record company in England with the pitch: "Hey, I have three pre teen girls one who has a strong voice and I want to have them sing songs with a heavy metal pop theme." I think the producer would still be knocking on doors today trying to get any band pitched to a record company! Trust the Japanese to somehow make this work.
There is a wonderful story that Su Metal told after they had performed at Sonisphere in 2014. She saw what she called some rough looking guys in the audience and was unsure how they would react to BabyMetal's music. When BabyMetal performed Doki Doki Morning, she saw the same blokes singing the chorus and doing the dance moves! That is my memory of the story it may not be exactly correct.
Thanks for your reaction and just enjoy the song guilty pleasure or not :-)

The song was recorded 9 years ago this week. The video came out a year later, and the album in 2014. At the start they experimented with sounds, what worked and what didn't. They figured it out, and this song like most their early stuff is a lot heavier live now.
The song was really a one off experiment. The producer, Kei Kobayashi, is a real metalhead, but that was a moribund genre in Japan in 2010, and he was working teenagers at the time to earn a living. So he found Su, and thought her voice was wasted on pop, and got this made. This video was released in 2011, and the rest as they say is history

I'm not sure how I feel listening to this particular track (after two months), but I don't really care about that and I just enjoy it.

Back then it took me a while to admit I like this, to be honest. But there's no doubt I do. Whether you do or not, it's interesting to see how long of a way they have come.

This video is kawaii overload. You said that it reminded you of ladybaby. Babymetal started the kawaii metal thing. The producer kobametal wanted to experiment by putting j-pop and heavy metal together so he formed Babymetal and it has become so successful that other bands like ladybaby are coming out but none are successful as Babymetal.

Hahaha... I can imagine that scene, and also the next one:
Record label: Okaaay... (while dialing 911)
