Hello from Tennessee, in the USA. The pistol you found is called a Colt Dragoon used by the Navy in the 1800s. At the time of the civil war. It's truly an amazing find especially in Amsterdam. I wonder how it got there 200 years ago. That would be a good follow up story for you. I hope you can gently clean it to display on a shelf. Great job my Aussie friend!!!!
It's an 1851 Colt Navy .44 Single Action Revolver. The 1848 Colt Dragoon, and the 1847 Colt Walker both have a larger Frame and Cylinder, the Walker (the Hog leg) has a longer barrel then the Dragoon. There's a market for relics out there, there, pending it's history, If you can find a serial #, Colt still has records showing when and where batches of their pistols went to.
@@minelabmad Send it to the guy at the Odd Tinkering RUclips channel. He does some amazing work. BTW, I would love to pull out an old safe that hasn't been opened with some cool old coins in it.
You are like a kid in a toy store. Your excitement is infectious. I wish everyone enjoyed their chosen daily activities like you do. Joyful to watch. Thanks.
Love your energy & always willing to let others in on the adventure. I will probably never get to Amsterdam, so thanks for showing the buildings & other sites!
You are such an enjoyable person to watch on RUclips! Your laughs and giggles are such music to my ears. You are just one happy human. 👍👍 The things you find in muck create scenarios in my mind of who, when, and why it's there and who dropped it accidentally, or was angry and threw it away, or was it stolen. What happened! Those safes are a mystery! Just proves no matter if something (or someone's life) is full of muck it can still be cleaned up. Thank you for these enjoyable videos.
I hear ya, Sandy. I often wonder what kind of scenarios instigated the many items that end up in the drink. I also am a big fan of laughter. You would probably enjoy the channel "Aussie Beach Hunters", heaps of laughter from that Father, daughter team. I I was referred to them by the "Robert Ferguson" channel (metal detector and gold miner) a great, easy-going guy. Check 'em both out and if you like, tell 'em I sent you. I have no content on my channel because I am technically un-knowledgeable, though I do Love reading and responding to people such as yourself, in the comment section. : ) A Nor Cali Gal.
I would say a Navy Colt, cap an ball, UK style because of the extra finger grip under the trigger guard. I hope it is real, that would be a Fantastic Find! All of the stuff that runs under the barrel is used to load the pistol, it pushes the powder and ball into the cylinders, 5 or 6 rounds depends on size of ball (caliber) that the barrel was made for. Then the caps go on the cylinders where the hammer strikes when you cock the hammer an pull the trigger. I should be a single action, not double action. Double action on old western pistols (1800's) means you could pull the trigger and the hammer would come up an then let go and strike the cap or firing pin, single action you had to cock the hammer then pull the trigger, much slower, if you do not know how to cock the hammer and draw at the same time, you lost, most all the time, not a good thing. There ya go mate thanks so much for all of the information. I know nothing about guns so it’s always fun broadening ones horizons with the finds you make. We’ll get cleaning and restoring to bring it back to its former glory
@@BondiTreasureHunter That''s very possibly not legal in the Netherlands! Blackpowder firearms made after 1890 are illegal and as far as I know you're not allowed to own replicas without a permit.

There’s a lot of love hey Melinda , thanks for the nice message. Definitely a very cool gun looks like 1850’s. We’re cleaning it up so hopefully it will look amazing :)
Always remember, something from the 1850s might have been lost or dumped as recent as 19xx. I also see a trend that magnet fishers tend to exaggerate the age of their findings. Keys from the 17th century, bullets from WW2, ... and often the appearance doesn't match that guess. Anyway, still an awesome find.
Hey Bondi we all love you and it's good to be loved so you are blessed because you got people that you've never met that loves you and what you are doing cleaning up the canals bless your wonderful heart
Just a suggestion: you could start carrying around a small sieve or riddle to filter through the mud you get inside safes. It would save a lot of time, and you would possibly find more stuff amongst the silt too.
Looks like a Colt 1851. Many were made in the past and are still manufactured. The round barrel and what looks like a finger hook on the trigger guard is different, almost like the revolving carbines except the barrel isn't carbine length. Maybe it was an export model for the Dutch or a custom piece. Would be neat if you could get into contact with Ian McCollum from Forgotten Weapons.
That measuring tape is commonly used by bridge inspectors to record the distance from the top of the bridge deck to the bottom of whatever water is underneath to keep track of changes in the stream/river conditions. Large changes in depth from one year to another could mean bad things for the bridge. One of the engineers must have had butter fingers!
Thanks for the explanation! You would think that in a device dedicated to measure height of bridges they will include a hand band so it won't fall of, but oh well!
