THE MESSIAH. Like many composers of his time, Handel was a fast worker, but few of his scores demonstrate this as much as that of The Messiah, which was put to paper in just twenty-four days, between August 22 and September 14, 1741. The Messiah stands out from Handel's other oratorios (except Israel in Egypt, from 1739) in that its text was exclusively drawn from the Bible and the Psalter of the Book of Common Prayer (Part 1 devoted to the coming of the Messiah; Part 2 to the sufferings of Christ; Part 3 to the Resurrection), and in Handel's time, it was called "The Sacred Oratorio."
This fact, combined with the consistently high level of the music itself, the large proportion of choral movements, the relatively simple nature of the arias, and the simplicity of the score, has made it one of the most frequently performed and appreciated oratorios. Handel, just after writing the chorus "Hallelujah", is said to have said to his servant, tears in his eyes: "I did think I did see all Heaven before me, and the great God Himself."
Regarding "Hallelujah." What comes to mind when you hear the term "Hallelujah"? Perhaps it reminds you of Handel's "Messiah," an 18th-century musical masterpiece featuring the dramatic Hallelujah chorus. Or maybe you think of the famous American patriotic song "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," ( • Great American Songboo... - song 20) also known as "Glory, Hallelujah." You've surely heard the word "Hallelujah" from one source or another. Perhaps you even use it from time to time. But do you know what it means?
Hallelujah - The English transliteration of the Hebrew expression ha-lelu-Yahʹ, which means "praise Jah" or "praise Jah, you people."
Jah - a poetic abbreviated form of the name of God, Jehovah. It appears in the Bible over 50 times, often in the expression "Hallelujah."
"Hallelujah," explains a Bible dictionary, is a "word used by the authors of various Psalms to invite everyone to join them in praising Jehovah." In fact, a number of Bible scholars emphasize that "Hallelujah" means "Praise Jah," [that is,] Jehovah.
Otto Klemperer's version is also the version of choirmaster Wilhelm Pitz, and the power and unbridled fervor of the choirs, perfectly in tune with the feeling of exaltation that accompanies the theme of Messi as savior of humanity, sent by God, remains unsurpassed to this day.

This piece is performed so differently nowadays. I like the speedier, peppier, new style but Its nice to hear it again in the older fashion-- more solemn, a little sadder in places, and more holy. Thank-you for posting this! 💐
