  • What a terrific start to this new little mini series that is a spin off from the cul-de-sac miniseries. It was a pleasure to take a drive out into the Oregon countryside to meet with Chris and hear the fascinating story of his long distance Egli Vincent Black Shadow

    I started riding with right hand foot shifters, my change over training came by working in a Dealership repair shop, this was before standard control layout was a thing. You learn quickly or you don't live long enough to learn.

      WHOT!!! Do you honestly think it's better looking than a Ducati round case? Especially the black testured painted 750 Sport motors?
      Just yankin' your chain, Ed! They're both gorgeous.

    What great machines ..and an owner to do them proud !. I have my 'Poor-mans' vincent, a retro'd 81 TR1 yamaha . Yamaha actually bought and dismantled a Vincent as part of its development and included a Vincent-esk rear mudguard which people hated at the time . Greg Hageman in The States has built a few in Vincent-Style, Billy Joel has one . You keep finding amazing people with magnificent bikes, cant say enough, how enjoyable your channel is . Dave NZ

    The Egli seating position or ergonomics looks a bit like a Ducati Sports 1000 , or GT 1000. Great motorcycle and fantastic watching these older ...ehem, guys getting about in perfectly restored vehicles like these - nothing at all to do with midlife crises - it’s all character and lifestyle. Wonderful.

    Thank you for taking the time to show us these great bikes. I turned my neighbor on to your channel. He has some of the coolest surviving stock bikes. Including a wonderful original 1947 Velocet 350 twin, a couple Indians. One a 1913 race bike as well as a 1936 Scout. Many BSA’s as well as a beautiful Norton 750 Camando you would all love. It’s in A beautiful brown paint. I’m hoping he will meet you folks so you can show the RUclips world some of his survivor bikes.
    Again thank you for your time.

    I'm so happy about Your great, great videos! At last the Egli Vincent! Bettwil, the home of Mr. Fritz Egli in Switzerland, is not far away from my village. There is a small museum with some "sweets".

    When the VRRA started organizing vintage races at Shannonville, Ontario in the late '70s, a fellow brought his Egli Vincent to race. 1st year, I think it broke down. 2nd year, he fell off.
    Sorry to say he didn't come back for a 3rd attempt.
    Great looking bike, though.

    Amazing video. What a guy - perfect mix of old and new and he actually racks up the miles - very impressive. That start up was pure music - absolutely awesome - put a big smile on my face. Is that an MG Magnette and then a Bultaco Alpina in the back of the garage? We had an Austin Cambridge MG in the UK with its massive 1600cc twin carb engine LOL. And here in the States I had a Bultaco Alpina for a while.

    What a waste of a Vincent engine! Can you imagine someone doing this with a vintage Bentley ? Why not build a special using a modern engine if you want a hot rod. Nice MG Magnette with wire wheels !

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  3 года назад

      This race bike is from a different time, Chris. It was built in 1969 and this was the hot-rod of the day, combining a brilliant engine and great frame. The Egli's were also built from donor bikes that cost very little and no-one wanted. In many ways, the Egli's actually saved these magnificent old engines from being scrapped.

    • @453421abcdefg12345
      @453421abcdefg12345 3 года назад +1

      @@TheMightyGarage Yes I realise that these Vincents went through a stage of being worth very little, I gave £130 and £140 for my Shadows, but I think it is very sad when people will only value objects when they are worth many thousands, and not for their true value as iconic engineering objects, I should have bought a barn full back then! Stay safe ! Chris B.

    • @dducdude6315
      @dducdude6315 3 года назад +2

      I disagree the bike stands on it's own merits melding the best engine of it's time, with the best frame and suspension of it's time.. Sure a Vincent is a grand statement, but an Egli is a fine tuned aria with the Vincent engine as a reoccurring theme. Before you knock it you should ride one for a day. They really are that good..
