Peter Dutton's statement about the flags is the exact kind of rhetoric that divides the country-it pits recognition of Indigenous heritage against the idea of national unity. Recognizing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags alongside the Australian flag is not divisive; it's an acknowledgment of the rich history and cultures that are part of Australia's identity. If anything has divided the country, it’s the fearmongering and refusal to embrace inclusivity. Respecting all Australians, regardless of their heritage, is what real unity looks like-not denying their identity under the guise of togetherness.

I think your claim that all that has happened (especially ever since Albanese and his comrades got into office) has gone WAY beyond merely 'recognising the struggle' that our aborigines have had. And, sheer reality obviously dictates common sense needs to be given its place here! WE today are NOT responsible for the actions, misdeeds, of any Australian ancestors, and to be asking for us to pay any race living today for deeds or wrongs (actually done or wrongly claimed, as much of it is) committed by decades of dead people, is absurd. Tp to me this is simply a blackmail tactic. What really bothers me is that 'white Australia' has in fact always been there and tried to help the aborigines with their 'struggle' - evidence clearly reveals that for probably most of our past CENTURY church and other welfare organisations have made continued efforts to try to educate them so they could function in a progressing society, educate their children in schools, educate them re a healthier diet and living practices needed to survive in a modern world, provided a massive amount of clothes, food, medical treatments etc etc etc. - all or most of which has been taken for granted - or otherwise flatly rejected, and ignored. Imo the REALITY is, as most Australians have evidenced over many decades, unfortunately most of the indigenous have not wanted to work - my own impression is that they seem to prefer to sit around on our streets drinking booze and receiving welfare! Ask any Australian who's lived here over the past many decades also. And the efforts made through our Parliament by the indigenous MPs and others amounting to absolute disrespect of our Parliament, trashing and making a mockery out of it have clearly demonstrated they certainly are not merely 'interested in getting recognition', nor co-operating in a decent and respectful manner to others in this country. They should never have been given the land they've managed to obtain through Albanese - and the other 97% of Australians ALSO have a right to decide how ANY of our land is occupied or used - yet again, the REALITY is that not one of us was asked for our vote on this at ALL prior to it being simply DONE! That is not the action of a democratic leader - it's that of a dictator. Imo the indigenous people will NEVER merge or co-operate with the rest of Australia because of all the aggressive, radical brainwashing they've been fed over many years, and their conduct and attitude especially in the horrific and extremely divisive 'Voice' debacle only impressed decent Australians that they're out to gain control and money via the Australian government coffers - and that even though they form a 3% minority group they believe they have some undisputed right to control our country, receive billions of our taxes, be granted especially land ownership - even though the majority have worked not a minute to pay for that ownership as every other Australian of course has to do! Imo this is simply and Constitutionally WRONG. The media reports over the last few years are beyond enough to confirm this impression, given by them themselves and those supporting their very divisive efforts. Perhaps you might need to read those reports again. All other races have lived in this country overall peaceably for now many decades. Hopefully the greedy among us will wake up that we ALL have equal Constitutional rights in this democracy, and we want to keep it that way. If the aborigines want recognition, they need to do what we ALL have to do in life: act responsibly to get an education, get up and go to work, and remember they're not the only people needing 'recognition' and help in our country! What about decent Australians of all races now forced to live in tents on our streets, losing their homes, their jobs and are battling to feed their children? How about helping and 'recognising' their needs? Now THAT would be something, wouldn't it?

@@ozzybloke-craig3690 , Your comment reflects a misunderstanding of history, culture, and what inclusion truly means.
First, being Indigenous in Australia isn’t about seeking 'sympathy'-it’s about acknowledgment, respect, and reconciliation.
Indigenous Australians have lived here for over 60,000 years, with cultures and histories that predate European colonization by centuries.
Recognizing their history through their flags and symbols isn’t about division; it’s about respect for the oldest continuous cultures on Earth and creating shared understanding.
Second, just because you and others were born here doesn’t erase the historical dispossession, marginalization, and suffering caused by colonization and systemic injustices that have impacted First Nations peoples. It's not about 'division,' as you claim; it's about creating a fair, respectful, and inclusive society for everyone.
Finally, saying 'get over it' dismisses the very real history of displacement, violence, and stolen land that continues to affect Indigenous Australians today. True unity comes from acknowledging our shared history, respecting one another's experiences, and building a shared future together-not by ignoring or dismissing pain and history.

The world doesn't revolve and turn around only the aboriginals. Have you asked what the other races who have emigrated to Australia may be suffering today? What about the sickening and unlawful persecution of Jewish people today? For having done NOTHING to cause or deserve it! Other races and even white Australians have ALL suffered in their lives, and today are doing that more than we've seen before. I recommend getting out and helping some of those others in their struggles - it's the way to overcome your own self-focus and help realise we are all human beings in need of help.

One Flag, but I think it might be time to make a new flag that is inclusive of the original custodians of the land, our First Nations indigenous people. It should take a long time to decide. All sides of the spectrum should be very c careful not to be decisive. It might be time to get rid of the Union Jack. I would like to see the Indigenous flag with a Southern Cross. But we should have a series of votes for one of say 50 flags. then another round for the remaining 10, then another round for the remaining 3 flags.

Union Jack on Australian flag does not represent all Australia it represent a British colonisation we need to flag that represent all Australia. Maybe we can remove of the Union Jack yes that’s controversial but if you use argument that one flag represent all we should remove the union Jack on the Australian flag to represent to help represent whole of Australia population because we have a variety of backgrounds in Australia for example Italy Greek largest Greek population outside of Greece is in Melbourne turkey Lebanon France, Spain, Portugal and so forth if we’re really gonna use one flag represent all we should not have a Union Jack on our flag. We should have a flight that represent the indigenous the traditional owners of the land and a whole community that move here to Australia.

The British empire occupied Australia by force, that is a crime every day of the week. All good Australians will want to recognise our Aboriginal people and their culture., it is the right thing to do. It is plain to see that Dutton is trying to score political points with a election coming up. He shows us on a regular basis, just how low he will go.
