In todays video we are taking a look at the new 2023 giant tcr, this thing is extremely light out of the box and is a fan favorite for the amount of tech you get for the money and people who still want the exposed cables and the ease of working on bikes at home
Hopefully giant jumps on the threaded bb wagon already!
Yo, GC brah…you didn’t mention its one of the only bikes in the peloton that still has actual road race bike geo.
@@cpt.slackbladder3187 What about the others ?
@@tebetmaniaa lot of them are way too relaxed
Just got this bike, rode it 3 times and it's amazing. Coming from tarmac sl6 sworks. To me, tcr is noticeably better than sl6 sworks in all areas.
very nice, just wiat for my video tonight i have a giant propel video out 2023
That's good news cos I just ordered one
Now this is a bike! So easy to work on!
hell yea
I own the 2021 alloy TCR and i think it's more than enough for what i use it for, can't imagine how wonderful to ride this bike!
as long as you are riding more on it, and also this bike would be so light compared to yours, but I am happy you are riding and enjoying :)
I think most forget that Giant TCR is the most bang for the buck road bike. Hoping the next model would be internal cabling but still maintain the frame shape.
They really are a great deal. They are just considered mainstream
I have those exact Cadex 42 wheels and they are hookless, but I’m running the Conti GP5000 S TR tires on them.
thanks you for the info on them :) you like them?
@@GCPerformance18 you’re welcome! I was like, “oooooh, GC did a video on a Giant!” So I had to chime in. I love my setup with the Cadex 42 wheelset and GP5000 S TR tires. I was a little worried as I am a heavier-set rider, but supposedly the rider weight on the hookless wheels are 285 lbs/129 kg, and I am running them tubeless with pressures around 60 psi. No issues whatsoever thus far.
Compare this to $20k S Works
It’s got value written all over added with the CADEX wheels and Dual Sided Dura Ace Power Meter.
Plus ADVANCED SL COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGY
Giant's Professional-grade raw carbon material is woven in our own composite factory to create the most cutting-edge frames available today. These frames feature the most advanced engineering and construction methods:
Best race bike on the globe 🌎
I guess all other brands are secretly thanking specialized for driving prices so high that we think of a 12,000 $ bike being a bargain
I mean it is not 20k sworks, but it is 14k like I mention and i do think it is a good disocunt, but I think the person who has 12k also has 14k and I like the look of the tarmac all day over this bike
My favorite bike of all. I have owned a TCR Advanced and many other bikes and I would easily purchase a Giant TCR Advanced SL as my next bike. Best bike for climbing, IMHO that I have experienced.
you excited for the new tcr??
This may be one of the last flagship bikes to run regular internal routing given how many people whine about wanting integrated internal routing, especially 2020s cyclists.
I know, it will get transformed soon, so many people want the integration look especially like u said the newer cyclists
@@GCPerformance18 But I'm hopeful it won't die completely (maybe even alongside external routing!) thanks to independent frame builders, those with actually good framebuilding quality. No further prepping needed, just acquire the frameset, build and ride.
I'm actually starting to like these frame builders. XD
Giant went hookless on their wheels since MY21 model (when the new TCR came out).
The Cadex are very good wheels, but I can’t say the same for the regular SLRs.
They now have a proprietary hub (on the MY20 and before, they had a DTSwiss hub) and the new hubs are troublesome.
Have you had problems with the hub yet? I have the 21 advanced disc 1+pc
very nice thanks for the informatin
Slr wheels are terrible imo
Please elaborate on hubs.... some info would be great. And are u talking about hubs in cadex wheels or slr1?
@@Juan1985g SLR's
Yeah, I don't like the integrated seat post, either. Since I race on Zwift, some weeks I am taller and some weeks I am shorter.
Why exactly are you taller and shorter?
hahahahha I odnt get it
@@GCPerformance18 just like weight doping...changing your height in game also affects your performance. But sarcasm aside, I've been a fan of the ISP since 2013 and have owned several of them. Luckily, my height hasn't changed IRL.
I used to have a 2016 TCR Advanced.SL with ISP. The ISP is stiff in every way. Funny thing is it wasn't an issue until I rode the non-SL TCR Advanced. The bike rode much smoother than the ISP model. Road imperfections were a non issue. I would definiely recommend that model over the ISP one. The weight difference is negligible
Yep I agree. I think a set of Cadex wheels and a cabon stem on the pro 0 sacrifices just a couple hundred gram’s for more comfort with less hassle on resale.
very nice!!!
I always felt the SL models were more comfy
An amazing bike. Just beautiful.
simple but nice :)
Given the weights of the new Propel, will that simply make the TCR redundant?
More likely that the TCR makes the Propel redundant. I believe Giant say there is very little between them in aero gains
TCR is a brand defining model. If nothing the propel will go away
not every one wants the aero look even if the propel was lighter i would still buy the tcr
lmao I nveer thought of that
tcr ...which they invented in the 1980s stands for "Total Compact Road" . Advanced sl refers to the weight of the carbon they build with "Super Light"
ahhh perfect thanks mate!!
Unfortunately the Shimano PM is junk. Check out GPLama video on it. Otherwise TCR fantastic bike.
agreed!!1 the shimano crank from last year was bad too
My 2021 tcr pro 1 disc 54cm with Dura Ace Di2 is 15.75lb with Speedplay pedals and F3 garmin mount
very nice
My 58cm sl6 with heavy Bora paint job weighs 5.8kg with 47mm wheels for reference
im guessing it is rim brake and probably mechanical dura ace or 11 speed etap
All Cadex wheels are hookless, I run my pressure at 85 - 90 psi as per the Cadex website with Cadex race 23mm tires. They're the only brand to my knowledge that allow you to run higher pressures with hookless. 72 psi of pressure which is the industry standard feels like I'm riding thru mud so that's one reason I decided to try these wheels. Wheels are fast, stiff and stay true with the carbon spokes under high tension, excellent quality wheels. Tubeless in my opinion is ok until you have a major issue on the road, after using both clinchers and tubeless I do prefer tubes. I watched your video on your road test between tubeless and clinchers and agree 100%. Tubeless for gravel, and mountain biking is great but I question the benefits for the road
really? that is crqazy I didnt know hookless platofmr could be ran that high, but awesome!!! thanks for the information
also I did a video comparing tubes to tubelss with power meter and tubes was .7 mph faster almost a full mph faster check it out
@@GCPerformance18 Yes i did see that video and it was done very well at an average of 199 watts for both setups if my memory is correct. No marketing involved, nice!
@@GCPerformance18 yes, the real limitation is tire choice. I run Cadex Race tubeless 25C (27mm inflated on the rimm) up to 110 psi (89kg). They are as fast as Continental gp5000 s tr, but more durable and puncture resistant, also the Conti tires are limited to 72 psi on hookles rims. Giant has a table of compatible tires on their website.
I don't mind integrated seat posts but I do wish they'd make the clamp internal instead (like an expander plug) for a super clean look.
yea that would be nice, or just something that works for it
Look did that for its 595, 695 and 795 models using expander plugs. Very clean and like for all ISP frames the seat post can never slip.
Hi GC. Great content as usual. A number of comments on this video as well as some of your others deal with the cost of bikes these days and I was wondering from your perspective as a dealer, do you see a lot of these high end ( $12K + ) bikes being sold? Just wondering what the average price point and type of bikes are being sold most? Thanks
yes this comment is always out there and I always want to respond to them but maybe I address it in a dedicated video..... these bikes do sell, more then people think, but people often forget these bikes are not meant to be for everyone, there are cheaper versions of this bike for people with a smaller budget, I dont know what people want, if they want all bikes to be the same price and super cheap, but there is tiers to every thing in life, like cars, watches everything, I mean whats the point of buying a really fast car or a really nice muscle car and spend all that money for nothing when there are speed limits that a 5,000 dollar car can do just as well, people can make this claim for everything, same as a watches, I could buy a 30 dollar gas station watch and it tell me the time, or I could buy a 20,000 dollar rolex that tells me the same amount of time.... and bikes these prices are not that crazy, I think back in 2012 high end bike were 10-11,000 dollars and the people who had that much money back then have 14,000 now and the same people who complain about the price now couldnt afford it back then, I can not afford these bikes wither, but i cant afford a ferrari either too but I dont go on rants about it all the time... I buy a car that works for me in my price and it is great and gets me to where I need to be and it would do the exact same job as a ferrari would to get me to work on time, just I would have more class in the ferrari and more clout lol
Thanks for the thoughtful and thorough response. My original comment wasn't meant to be a complaint about bike prices but was more interested in your perspective on which bikes sell the most on average. I have a fairly high end Emonda on order and some look at me like I 'm crazy to spend that much on a bike but as you say, it is a choice we make just like between a Timex and a Rolex.
@@GCPerformance18 this is by FAR the best response to people who complain about the price of bikes.
I’d also add: quality/performance has increased at every price point and of course inflation, so just like cars, stuff is more expensive but also better and even an average car (now above $40k for the first time ever) is WAY more car than anyone actually needs, but it’s what people want (and what’s available).
@@GCPerformance18 Valid point. I used to own a 2011 Felt F1 that I purchased new for $12k back in 2011. I choose not to spend that much anymore, because 4 years later, I built up a Cannondale CAAD10 for half the price, that I enjoyed riding more.
Flagship bikes have always been expensive. Why is this such a difficult fact for youtube commentators to understand.
You can get a good entry level road bike for $1000. You don’t have to buy a superbike 😒
Stunning bike, I have the non disc which is 6.6kg kg, this weight is incredible for disc, only downfall is the cables are NOT internal, very off putting, otherwise the best bike out there.
Can i make the cable fully intergrated by using different stem and bar?
@@ciw8688 only by using a different fork and working out a solution with a fitting aftermarket headset.
That is light, size small though but very good for a disc brake model. However, $12k!!! that's nuts. $12k on a cycle.. You can buy a Ducati for that!
I dont want a ducati
Glad you are safe after the hurricane.
Thanks so mcuh!!

Peak Torque has a lot to say about the isp
Isp is horrible and no resale value
@@leslie7922 lol have you even ridden one? it's a performance gain in every respect, who cares about resale when your faster, lighter, and more comfortable.
@@galenkehler lmao its not like a weekend bunch ride is dominated by people with isp going omg look its comfy and aero 🤣 and everyone on clamped seat posts are 20km behind covered in sweat struggling. Feels like you're the one who has ridden a bike before 🤣
yea I seen it... science man
I quite like TCR, and giant offers good value... the bike is stiff and responsive, but I'm not a fan of ISP and hookless tubeless wheels... pretty sure these cadex 42's are hookless and that's one of the big reasons they are light...
Why should hookless and tubeless be lighter? A stiffer tire made for hookless rims plus sealant equals exactly the additional wheight you would have with a lighter non-TR tire plus lightweight tubes like Tubolitos.
S-Works Turbo RapidAir 2Bliss Ready 26c @ 240grams 120tpi on a hookless Zipp 303s with recommended 2oz sealant (4-5 grs more weight than a tubolito) at my recommended pressures, 68/72psi, is more comfortable than any combonation of tubed if run in 35 yrs on the road. No hysteresis (tire/tube friction) and hookless is lighter rotational weight due to less material for the standard hooked rim. Arguable over whether it rolls faster however the fatigue factor of lower pressure giving a more comfortable ride more than makes up when finishing a training ride. Absolutely no pinch flats and no flats in 15,000+miles. Just a periodic refresh of 2ozs each tire at about half life of the tire (3 sets tires)
hell yea
@@awesomexistence 303s weights at 1540g, right? This is not a good example for lightweight. There are plenty of hooked wheels outside which are lighter. The difference between a GP5000 and GP5000 TR plus sealant is exactly one Tubolito tube. So, no weight difference there.
@@kallewirsch7915, as I stated, hookless are lighter at the rim due to less material by deleting the hook. Gives them a rotational centrifugal force as some of the lightest wheels on the market.
It is awesome but I'd still prefer a Scott or SL7. I don't think saving an extra 200~300 grams over nice paint is worth it either. If your going to spend 12k on a bike, 2k more isn't really going to put someone off buying the nicer bike. Great review though.
yea between the two of these bikes I would go sl7 all the way, I prefer the look better
Depends on your needs, for climbing TCR is beast
Do you think it is still a good bike? I'm not sure if buying the TCR Advanced SL 2025 model with Ultegra Di2 or the TCR Advanced SL Disc 0 Dura-Ace 2022/2023 model. The prices are practically the same.
The only thing that anoys me on my TCR is the 1 1/4 inch steerer tube. That limits your stem choices massively. Oh, and the Giant Gavia tyres feel like crap.
This is why only base Giant models appeal to me.
yes I hate this, I ran into this issue for a customer i was trying to upgrade his stem
The battery is on the seat post, right under the saddle holder clamp.
Okay perfect thank you!!
God's what a bike! Great video 🤯
thanks so much!!!
My favorite is still the sl7 or dogma f
Tarmac SL7 > Dogma F any day, because Pinarello's mechanical design for mechanical groupsets on this bike just sucks.
Any bike with good mechanical design is good in my books, it doesn't have to be a Specialized. Pinarellos no longer impress me.
Edit: Wrong Dogma, turns out I meant the F12, not the F (this one's electronic-only).
yea same here for ride quality and also looks
Glad you are ok, that hurricane was crazy!
Thank you but yea we didnt get any of it, we are on the east coast, I feel bad for the west coast
I like the TCR a lot and those Cadex wheels are awesome. It looks like the bike shop is waiting to size the bike to adjust the hoses, they are way too long and floppy. Also, that power meter is a piece of junk
yes this is a stock bike
Greatest video!
Thanks!
Yeah my local dealer has this bike in a large because I'm 5'11 1/2, I'm interested in buying it. Just wanted to know if it's the best bang for the buck.
Yeah that's a sweet bike. I was wondering what you thought about wheel manufacturers going away from the carbon spokes do you think they're doing this because of the way they need the front wheel to deflect under braking? They want that little bit of give to prevent lock up?
They're also not as easy to break when something gets caught in them, like a tree branch. One first-gen Allez Sprint Disc rider on Winspace HYPERs had his seatstays badly bent when this happened to him, I think the wheel came out unscathed. Most mechanics aren't familiar with carbon spokes too.
I'd rather break spokes than a frame.
no its not that, I just think maufactorers are getting great deals on bulk spoke orders so the more ways to cut cost and keep everything uniform for th ewhole line and if those spokes can be used for every wheel like gravel and mountain wheels from the same dealer it just makes costs savings easier
Pretty cool, but why would you buy a 12k ment for the Mountains when you live in Florida?
people enjoy the bike still, we sell aethos over here too, they might have a vacation home
Nice video. Wish i could afford it. Gonna try for a used 2021 propel
very ncie!!!
Super light
super utra light
Giant TCR still has it💯... my TCR adv pro 1 disc 2021 still strong💪 even I have my new SL8 expert I still love it!
I think the reason it's slightly cheaper is due to the handle bar and stem combo. Something about the seat post doesn't jive with me. If you cut it and make a mistake it's one serious mistake. Maybe the extra seat clamp part is adjustable?
Ya you have to cut it but you still get 4cm of adjustment room or something like that. Should be ok for an individual to adjust their position, but could be problematic for reselling or lending to a friend. I think you wanna get the shop you buy it from to do the cutting. That would be too stressful for me 😅
@@graemehill ahh that's good to know! First time seeing a bike like this. Yeah agreed reselling would be super hard unless u have a very average/common inseam/height but anyone who's looking to buy an expensive used bike like that better make sure the fit is perfect. Cheers!
if you're spending 12 grand on a bike you're not going to just "make a mistake" on cutting the seatpost.
@@galenkehler You don’t know people then. I’ve seen people crash and burn Lamborghini’s and Bugatti’s out of sheer stupidity. I’ve seen people overlook and or forget and I’ve also seen people get super nervous and botch things. So please don’t tell me just because the price tag is high means people will be “perfect” when it comes to assembly or taking care of. Money is subjective as well. the only problem I have with Giant is that they wont ship the bike to you, you'll have to buy it from a shop and if you order one and the shop doesn't have it in stock, they'll usually charge you to set it up, in my case the shop was charging me $250 to "build it". Probably it will work with someone else but it didn't for me, I got a Trek instead and free set up.
Weird. I ordered from the website and it was sent to my Giant dealer and I didn't have to pay any extra money.
@@FRamirez1A well I think it has to do with being a small retail shop, here in Clermont Fl we have just one Giant dealer and they charge for the set up. If they dont have it there theyll charge you, not sure why 🤷🏻♂️
@@alannkevin I would be mad if after spending so much money I had to pay extra. The shop even gave me a maintenance so about 5 months after o bought it, they did a tune up for literally zero extra money. I tipped the mechanic and I got some things from the shop that I needed, but nothing too expensive (water bottles, the bottle holders, some CO2 and if I remember well I got new tire levers lol, nothing better than new goodies for a new bike!!)
@@alannkevin that's BS for the shop to charge that if they're a dealer. I bought my Roubaix from a Specialized dealer and they offered a free bike fit and free first bike checkup. $250 is way too much for basically an hour worth of work as bikes are like 90% already assembled and they just have to index the gears.
@@vongdong10 to be honest it didn’t bother me at first, I am not in the place to tell others what to charge for their service, but later on it did a little, this kind of things might hurt Giant even if its the dealers fault,

I'm having a hard time to decide which one should i get... Giant or Specialized 🤔
Easy decision when you factor in that one of them has the best dealer prices of any brand and makes an easy-to use bike with an amazing reputation to this day and one makes overpriced, over-marketed bikes that essentially perform the same but simply rely on an Apple-like brand images to justify paying 5500 dollars for a bike with aluminum wheels and Rival Etap AXS

Knowing 56CM can be hit or miss for the avg. North American male at 5’9” or 175CM in height. Purely anecdotal but I know very few people riding anything smaller than a 56/54CM. I’d expect a size small to be lightweight. Thank you sir.

damn very nice
I’m enjoying the bike so far ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
Is it worth just to upgrade a low tier TCR advanced?
I’ve put on a set of carbon wheels on my advanced 2, along with a lighter alu bar, stem and ultegra cassette. The bike now comes at 7.5 kilos with pedals, that’s rim brake btw
For the TCR Advanced Disc, if it's for weight reduction purposes, not so worth it. Some riders may find its stiffness insufficient too.
if it is a bike you like then yes
Just too bad the Shimano power meters still aren’t remotely accurate.
Nice bike. But at that range they could have added a tiny bit of colour/bling. (A la Trek/sworks )
yea I heard
Please don't use the words "bicycle," "12 thousand dollars" and "value" in the same sentence. We are getting numb to seeing bikes for 8, 9, 12, 14 thousand dollars. They are bicycles. BICYCLES. Yes, you gotta pay to play, but these prices are TGD high.
i will make a video about this :)
If you mount these giant parts on a frame of the same weight (765g, size M), you get the same bike weight. If you mount these giant parts on an S-Works Aethos frame (585g, size 56), you get a lighter bike. All frames in a certain price range are +/-100g the same weight (with exceptions such as Trek frames). The low weight of the bike is a marketing myth. A bike is only as heavy as the frame with the fork and the parts you mount on it. With the parts fitted to this Giant TCR SL, you can get a Cannondale Supersix EVO or Orbea Orca OMX even under 7kg
How tall are u for that size small?
not my bike but scott gives a size chart on there website for this bike
What’s up with the seat post height?
It'll only be cut to fit once somebody buys it.
its a stock bike waiitng to be bought
$13k for a bike that looks like it cost $2k with all those cables up front. I’m sure this thing is a beast especially climbing but man I’d subconsciously have a hard time appreciating it for that price bcs it just looks so wrong with the external cables
It's just two hoses...
Don't talk about external routing without having seen a 90s road bike.
That's a tall saddle height. Whats the rider's height?
Looks like 6’2, but with a 5’8 wingspan
that is a stock uncut bike once, a customer buys it they will fit them to it and cut the mass

Over 3 pounds lighter than the Cervelo Soloist.
yes also double the price ;)
it's not raw carbon, it's their thinpaint coat !!
naw that one is raw, if it was a paint coat it would be complete one flat color
@@GCPerformance18 naw Giant doesn't do raw yet it's caled thinpaint and sometimes depending on the angle and brightness of the light we can see the carbon through the thinpaint layer.
Hookless rims are downgrades and are unsafe. Rest of the bike is awesome.
Unsafe? Unless u don't follow the guide lines these have been heavily tested with the approved tires.
Btw that DA power meters is trash, its power is low and you have to stop during a ride to manually calibrate it 😂
yes I have heard but cool to see it in person and this has always been a normal thing from last year shimanos power meter
Come on its overpriced, it's a joke, industry decided to go disk brakes and was not ready, just wanted to push heavier road bikes to people or extremely overpriced reasonable weight road bikes
what would you want to pay for this bike, what is not over priced for you
Wow that price is staggering, but you gotta pay for performance
yesh
$12K.......😂😂😂😂
what would pay for this
$ 12.200....😂😂😂
you like?
Don't buy a bike now just wait until the middle of next year, once the economy tanks, you will see the true value of these overpriced bikes.
it will still be expensive, if you dont have the money now to buy this you wont have the money then when the econmy tanks either, it wont be a half off discount
