I’m a mechanical engineer and so happy to find this video. Thank you! Let’s say I have a silo. In this case how we should find the action point of lateral force. Can we say it will act at the Center of gravity of silo? Many thanks.❤
Dear Engineer, This is one of the best explanations I have seen till date! My humble request from my side is to make a video on "Response Spectrum Analysis" as well. It would also be helpful if you start a series on American codes. Warm regards and really appreciate your efforts.
All the info he is giving are by SK Jain from (Explanatory Examples on Indian Seismic Code IS ... - IIT Kanpur.) But the way he is explaining is good , so that we can understand more easily.
Hello Sir, thank you very much. For W the seismic weight of the building, you give the weight of each floor plus the weight of the roof. What happened with the weight of columns? Are they not included in the calculation for W or they are included in the weight of each floor?
Hi Christian. The problem statement was kept simple to make the manual calculations easy. In the real world example all the dead loads on the building is to be taken during calculation of Seismic Weight W which will include the weight of columns and beams and any other dead load imposed upon the structure. This example was however devoid of those factors just to minimize manual calculation on my part. Hope that helps. 🙂
Fantastic Lecture sir. It would be beneficial if you could upload a video on seismic analysis of over head water tanks to me and many water supply engineers.
Thank you for you appreciation. I already have a lot of videos on my channel. If you are serious about learning more you can always enroll in my online course.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Please share this channel with your friends too in order to support my efforts. I will try making a video as per your request soon enough.
The calculations are based upon IS 1893 code (Indian Standard Code) for Earthquake design. That being said, the EQ design is almost common throughout the world with minor changes. Hence, if you are using ASCE you will find a lot of similarities to IS codes.
