100%. A great example of this happened during game 5 of the Blazers series when Dame hit his legendary series winner over Paul George. Before Dame's series winner took place OKC was up 15 with just 8 minutes left to play. One of the main reasons why the Blazers were able to come all the way back fron down 15 to tie and eventually win the game was because of Westbrook's poor clock managment and decision making. During this Blazers run Westbrook had multiple bad careless turnovers, shot the ball far too early in the shot clock and committed a horrible foul under their own basket that allowed the Blazers to cut the Thunder's lead from 4 to 2 with just 1:22 remaining.
In other words, Westbrook's low IQ basketball during the final 8 minutes of the game is what allowed Portland to come all the way back and knock OKC out of the playoffs with Dame's incredible shot. Literally all Westbrook had to do to win the game was not commit careless turnovers/fouls and not shoot too early in the shot clock, but of course Westbrook being Westbrook this was too much to ask from him.

Poor shooting, stat padding, such as chasing rebounds instead of covering his perimeter assignments, his out of control speed when going to the basket which leads to poor finishes at the rim, static movement when he doesn't have the ball, which means whoever had the ball is essentially playing with 3 players as he is not moving the defense with his moment.

Ironically, the biggest problem with Westbrook is that he is so talented. Because of that, when his shot is falling it validates his playstyle to him and his fans. But what him and his fans don't understand is, just because the shots were falling in that game doesn't mean he's playing better. He's playing the same bad brand of basketball regardless if the shot is falling or not. It's similar to how a coach will be happy if thier offense generates good quality open shots, regardless of if the player actually makes the shot or not. Playing good and smart basketball consistently is way more important than the occasional hot game. Because of that he will never change his game and live up to his full potential as a winning basketball player.

Most people use advanced analytics poorly, but I think you use them well in this video. The problem with Westbrook is that he just doesn't understand situational basketball, he only has one gear. And he often as you pointed out makes several mental mistakes defensively in clutch situations to me.
It's sad, because I see Westbrook's career ending soon. And I think it's going to be eerily similar to how Iverson's career ended. They're both all time great talents, but appeared to be unwilling to make the necessary changes to their game as they aged.

@@gabrielnieves9974 Iverson's inefficiency is the one player I make an exception for...he played in an era where the pace was very slow, the game was more traditional, teams had more size, etc. If you look at the year AI went to the Finals, that team was extremely limited offensively, and he was constantly double and triple teamed. When you consider all those factors with his small size, it's amazing that he even shot 40% from the field, and we're not even talking about the fact he was always injured. If Iverson played in today's era with more shooting and increased space, I think his FG% definitely increases.

Players like Larry Hughes, Jerry Stackhouse were good...but I'll admit they were similar in position to AI. But nevertheless, this is where AI reminds a bit of Russ, he had incredible natural talent, but he was extremely difficult to pair with. And as he aged, it became more apparent, we're seeing a similar thing with Russ. And lets not forget other players like Kyle Korver, Derrick Coleman, Matt Harpring, Andre Iguodala, etc who played with AI...I loved watching AI play, but like Russ, he was very difficult to play with due to his high volume, ball dominant style.

This is most clear on the defensive end of the court where he does not fight through screens, plays out of position, and as is pointed out loses his man.(Funny thing is, he can be a great defender, In college he was PAC10 defensive player of the year). On offense, it is not merely stat hunting either. In interviews his team mates never seem to bond with him, or form the kind of cohesive unit needed for that split second advantage in the playoffs that championship teams who have been together a while have. To some extent he is a product of his era of the NBA, but sadly he exemplifies much of the negative aspects of the era while having some of the most talent of anyone in the league.

Have to give it to him though, he does it better than anyone else...Going foward though, those stats will be diminishing for him, and there have already been signs of that. I think that he is on the right team for doing it though, as much as I hate to admit it, LBJ has recently been playing at an MVP level; and that can only help Russ to achieve whatever it is that he is after.
