Gotcha. I think what confused me was that the late 60s/early 70s Beetle trackwidth is way less than 60" stock. It's actually in the low 50s. The entire vehicle width is only about 61" outside to outside (measuring to the outside edge of the fenders). Mine is now closer to 48" in tread width with the narrowing.
