So I'm to believe that she was walking around with a detached retina but hadn't experienced any symptoms and no noticeable loss of peripheral vision? As someone who has had multiple retinal tears in both of my which were always accompanied by: persistent flashes emanating from the location of the the tear; a significant, sudden increase in floaters that was quite alarming in itself; & in my case, significant vitreous hemorrhage accompanied the majority of my retinal tears & in three of the instances the bleeding was so bad that the vision in the affected eye was like looking through a sea of red. Of course she wouldn't have felt any pain from the detachment since there are no pain receptors in the retina, but it's very hard to believe that she hadn't experienced any of the other symptoms I've listed.

I understand what you have wrote however atrophic retinal holes can lead to chronic retinal detachments which can be asymptomatic. Most detachments are acute and symptomatic however
