"Sure handy for that one device in your setup which has a pesky MIDI implementation." 😂 This RK-008 looks lovely! I could see it being the "main brain" for a theoretical portable live rig I may or may not be putting together. 😏
Will get this for sure asap and use on my stream. Already work a bit like this with using a Keystep into a Future Artist Midi Looper, but this is so much better. I have the RK-005, RK-002, RK-006 and will certainly add the 008 as well. Can't wait to put in in my setup and jam with it.
It's just fantastic - just gorgeous looking and a hark back to the earlier hardware sequencer days. I liked the nod and wink irony of the 'features' such as the 8 into 1 track bounce. Nice touch.
Cant wait! Really hope the buttons are nice, not to squishy and a nice feel confirming input. Oh, would be nice if the rec and play leds lit red and green respectively when in use.
Great that it has swing! Wonder if it’ll have full editing to sequence a full song? Also praying it can erase in overdub like mpc. Oh and recording track on/off states would knock it out of the park. Looks amazing and I’m signed up either way
What about grid scales? Can one change from the standard /16 to /96 or /48? I see it records unquantized, so there MUST be a discreetly defined grid resolution value we cannot see. 🧐 Awesome work too - It’s Roland MC-202’ish!
Is it possible to have a detailed demonstration of how to connect the RK-008 with the RK-006 combined with a midi controller and sound source? I’m finding a lot of your videos give examples of the potential, but when it comes to explaining the connections I’m finding it a bit overwhelming (and I may not be the only one). Your products are great but it would be really really really appreciated if the connections could be explained with a bit more clarity. Hope that’s not too much to ask, thank you
Looks great, very interested if this might be the first device in my setup that plays nicely with the MC-303's goofy MIDI implementation in combination with my other gear.
Would this work as the "brains" of my setup? I have Pocket Operators running from the Sync of my Keystep, but I also have a Korg SQ-1 step sequencer with MIDI out for converting CV data from Ableton. My plan was to setup MIDI channels on the Keystep for each armed track in Ableton, that way I could record using my PC, but this seems like it would allow me to be even more mobile? Thank you for all your help! I can't wait to buy one of these bad boys and set it up with my Pocket Operators lol
THIS LOOKS AWESOME😜 so in a RK008 / RK006 configuration the possibilities are mindblowing😮 8 track 16 channel per track (is that correct?) then the additional RK006 options how many separate midi/ sync instruments can be connected? It works together with the RK-006 to add in/outputs and USB hosting. Without the RK-006 usb is for power/charge and desktop communication like updates, etc

Hi, this looks great. I have a couple of questions for you. I have recently been using a Yamaha QX21 as the heart of my setup. This sturdy old sequencer is based on real-time recording and allows me to focus on a whole song rather than building a song out of patterns, which suits my creative process better. You can see my QX21 in action in all my recent videos. My questions are: (1) is your sequencer suited to the way I work or is it primarily intended for pattern-based work? (2) What other features does it have that might justify spending 350 euros on it, given that I got my QX21 for about 50?
What can I say.. the RK008 / MMT8 workflow is famous and the RK008 adds real-time features and extra MIDI I/O to the MMT8 which makes it even more flexible, but if you are used to the QX21 I doubt you can justify the price difference, I'd just try and get the most of your Yamaha 👍
@@RetrokitsDev Well thank you for your very honest answer in any case it's great that you are bringing back this way of working, I hope 2022 will work great for you.
OK so you are NOT going to believe it but 2 years on I am still thinkimg about this... As my musical style and worlflow have evolved I am now finding myself considering this unit again. Here's my new question. It regards looping. Suppose I have recorded a 4-bar loop with say some drums. I have it looping and while it loops I want to record another part that is longer, say a 16-bar loop with baas. Can I keep the 4-bar part looping while I record the 16-bar part. Then at the end of the recording can I keep the two loops going (the 4-bar drum loop + 16-bar bass loop) while I record a longer part (e.g. a lead)? Al l this wuthout ever stopping anything?
Every track can hold MIDI data for all 16 channels (and every rk008 ‘part’ can hold 8 tracks, every song can hold 99 parts and the rk008 can hold 16 songs 😬🧮)
@@RetrokitsDev hi, thank you, not sure if i understand, my question is, if i power on the sound module and rk008, how does the rk008 sequence know hat patch nr to set in the sound module, and if i change a patch, is that patch change recorded automatically. MPE recording is possible but yes if you push CC messages to it continuously in a key press it will flood memory pretty fast because the memory is MMT8 compatible (as is the error message). It has 16x the MMT8 memory blocks however but these can not be auto-chained in one song) If MPE is a serious part of your recording instead of the tracks/parts/blocks song structure building then perhaps the ‘midi tape recorder’ on iOS is more to your liking (or a laptop)
