This is a useful device, except it won't work for me because it's missing the one feature from the Alesis MMT-8 that I want, which is the TAPE-OUT/TAPE-IN feature. I can already record and edit MIDI on various tools I have now, but I can't find any new devices that allow time sync from audio recorders that don't have a MIDI out port. The Alesis MMT-8 was used by studios in the past to solve this problem by saving sync tones to/from the tape machine, typically the last track on the console. So when playing the mix, it automatically would start/stop and sync the MIDI devices without actually having a MIDI port on the console. I have a Tascam Portastudio (digital DP-24SD) that I use for old-school style recording/mixing, but it doesn't have MIDI so I was hoping the RK008 would be a modern MMT-8, except the RK008 can't act as a complete replacement for the original.
Yes clip length and for example track settings like output, channel mapping or realtime modifier settings can all be saved as a template , it’s’ under the ALT+9 menu
Any chance you would consider adding a certain feature to quantize? The MMT-8 could quantize note lengths, but in a different way than the rk-008. It wouldn’t uniformly quantize notes to a certain length, it would quantize to the nearest value. So if I quantized to 16ths, it would quantize the start and end of each note to the closets 16th note. It was SO charming, and while I am LOVING the rk-008 (it does immediately feel like a sequel to the MMT-8 in operation), I find myself really missing this feature.
The RK008 has note on + note length as separate properties to quantize and we have now added the MMT8 nearest type in the next release, if you send us a message I can send you the release for testing.
Hi, it looks pretty awesome, just want to make sure. Lets say if on my synthesizer i play with the reverb, filters, lfo, etc , it will record and play back all those midi cc changes??
@RetrokitsDev this seasoned techno musician "analog kitchen" on yt loves this machine says he made it the brain for his setup. Do you know if it will also work with modular and semi modular gear ? Thanks
Indeed we don’t want to lose the human factor on the play, but sure it can quantize: Alt+6 has per-track quantize/swing on the fly, so if you’re not happy with what you’ve played you can try out different q’s afterwards (and also remove it again) playing around with that is also a nice tool for live performance btw 😊
@@MorbidManoeuvres it will provide :-) also, there is a stepTime recorder in there where you can quantize the real-time playhead input, a bit unconventional (of course 😬) but making it possible to insert sequencer like timed events in the same track as where you did the realtime recording.
Why so small ? People spend hours at a time working with sequencers. Peering at this tiny screen and cramped layout is a deal breaker for many. Please scale the thing up to a proper size....
Nice product this. Can pair up and sit neatly on top of an EMU e4k

You can sync the rk008 to a pulse clock via the sync port, it actually holds a pulse out and pulse in on resp. Tip and ring
is it possible to switch and navigate alt menus/tracks etc. without stopping the clock?
Yes definitely, the whole point of the RK008 is to do everything on the fly as much as possible.
Hi, can you save empty clips with predefined length as you would do in Ableton?

Awesome, thank you!
Will these be available in shops or only directly from you? Thanks.
hmmm, come on retrokits, engage with your viewers
They're on PerfectCircuit (US), Signal Sounds (UK) and MIDI Amsterdam (NL)

Yes sure- it records the works multichannel on each track. Here a short using it in the Digitakt FX: instagram.com/reel/Cz1NPM4NsrR
@RetrokitsDev Wow thanks 👍😎

@@romi2910001 yes he’s doing fine some real cool stuff with it 👍
Ok why not just quantize your first attempt of the riff ? Or it can’t quantize
cause people usually plays synths slightly off the beat (humanize).

@@RetrokitsDev awesome stuff, i am a grid/quantize freak that is all haha
thanks for the details

@@RetrokitsDev all good I just took one from Signal Sounds Glasgow. Looking forward to using it
not to be bad, but why does this exist when you can grab any vintage sequencer for less then $100
Because we have worked with those vintage sequencers
It’s an awesome recorder- looper but you need to invest in good show videos.

We like this much better. Saving studio space and resources 👌
