Is no one gonna talk about everyone calling it woke just because Charlie is a girl & wears rainbow? It’s actually very common for girls in school to play Charlie, and it didn’t ruin anyone. Plus, rainbows are just beams of light, and the color scheme could have been used to emphasize the fun and whimsy of the original. The reason the Oompa Loompas are robots is because many people have to get on their knees for that role, which isn’t good in the long run. Not everything is about woke culture, so next time you call our generation sensitive, take a look at yourself.
Loved the Leeds Playhouse show. Not just saying that because my big sister works at Leeds Playhouse which meant that she and I can get free complimentary tickets, but it took me away to an imaginative world
Fun Fact: There are 4 people playing as Charlie Bucket 1:Harmony Raine Riley 2:Hayden Court 3:Isaac Sugden 4:Jessie-Lou Harvie.(In Ireland) In England it’s 1:Noah Walton 2:Kayleen (don’t know her last name) 3:Amelia Minto 4:Isaac Sugden.Which person playing as Charlie Bucket did you get?
Really not good 3/10. Veruca Salt was good, but no songs from the original, oompa loompas were robots and a lot of it was just projections on a screen 😬😵💫. Was NOT my cup of tea.
They replaced *If Your Mother Were Here* with *The Candy Man* and *Simply Second Nature* with *Pure Imagination* The problem is not that they don't try to be like the original movie. The real problem is that they try to catch the original movie fans instead of focusing on the good stuff they have. Though I do agree with the projections.
@@AGM-f5d Someone tried to tie this to woke culture just because Charlie is a girl & wears rainbow. Rainbows are bright and fun, so they put it there to emphasize the whimsical nature of the story.
Because… a man named Roald Dahl once wrote a book where the the character was written AS A BOY.its not an absurd play where I can pick any gender as I wish. So how about casting a boy as Mathilda? or a man to be the grand high witch? You know that if you’ll dare to that than the PC would go mad…🤷🏻♂️
gotta be one of the worst revivals of the century. This looks even worse than the Broadway version, which is saying a lot, I kinda wanna watch that version again to feel some comfort after seeing clips of this version. Almost every choice could've been made better.

Went to see this in Liverpool yesterday and was very disappointed. I’m sorry but I’m sick of everything having to be changed to be ‘woke’. Charlie was a boy, not a girl. He had a dad, he didn’t have a single mother. Charlie’s family was poor, he didn’t walk around in a rainbow striped top carrying a rainbow striped umbrella. The Oompa Loompas looked like the tin man from the Wizard of Oz. Why does everything have to change to mollify the extreme leftists? Create a brand new, original show like & Juliet which is probably my favourite show, I’ve seen it three times and have booked to see it in 2024. Please don’t ruin the originals
not really sure what you're griping about. just go and see a different charlie and the chocolate factory then? job done. it's not about politics or human rights, it's just that the original has been played so many times that people naturally want to see some changes to keep it fresh. run it into the ground if you want to but people Do actually get bored believe it or not 🤷♂️ live your life the way you want and let others live their lives the way they want - easy !
Tbf the Oompa Loompas we’re robots mainly because standing on your knees to play the original characters is painful and hard, plus wearing rainbow colours isn’t woke and yes Charlie is a boy but sometimes the show has a girl to play Charlie because not only more than one person can play someone but also she and other Charlie actors probably the only ones to audition. So before you go on about the being woke think about other reasons why they did what they did and in my opinion was a fantastic show when I saw it in Cardiff.
Oompa Loompas being robots basically goes back to the Tin Man…no heart…so when any of the bad kids are in trouble it’s not in their programming to help them. 👍
Just come back from watching the show in Liverpool. Took my son to his first theatre display. Loved it.
I AUDITIONED FOR THIS! I was 2nd in line for charlie bucket
Saw this today 25/1/2024 at Kings theatre Glasgow absolutely loved it❤
I’m thinking of taking my kids aged 8 and 7. Would it be suitable for them from your experience?
@@callmeparker1977 yes but just saying the kids die but not Charlie ofc but other than that it is kid friendly

I’m begging for this version to get a cast recording
I'm pretty sure u can for like £15

I got Hayden Court!
I got Harmony Raine Riley
As some one who saw this I can say it’s great
Is it just me or Gareth Snook looks like Wonka’s father like the 2005 movie?
Just saw this at the Kings Theatre Glasgow and I was absolutely blown away by the whole show

Someone I know was Mrs Bucket and Mrs Tee Vee
You guy’s probably don’t believe me but Charlie’s mum is my music teacher her

Absolutely awful production. Me and my friend really hated it, awful props and the Oompla Loompas were just terrible. Such a lack of original songs.
*You got whatcha want*
I’m going tomorrow x
