After watching this, I also got the plastic balls and am so happy with them. They're not too loud, and they fluff stuff! So, less ironing. That always makes me happy. Thank you.
I've known about using tennis balls for drying comforters and pillows. Without tennis balls the comforter and pillows will be ruined as the stuffing will be clumpy and will have to be thrown away; with tennis balls they will come out fluffy and wonderful. I've always wondered why that was. Always thought I'd have a ask a physicist how/why tennis balls work. You answered that question - air pockets. FYI - Three tennis balls from the sporting goods section costs about one dollar; one tennis ball from the pet dog section about $3; one from the pet store about $5.
I'm glad there is something you can use...I use wool and love them! No static, no chemical-filled dryer sheets, no perfumy (?) smell, etc. Beautiful kitchen, by the way!
I recently switched to wool dryer balls. I was using store bought dryer sheets but I read somewhere that "to get your towels more absorbent, dont use dryer sheets. Dryer sheets leave a film on your towels reducing their absorbency". So, I no longer use dryer sheets and I stopped using fabric softener during the wash cycle. I use vinegar in place of the liquid fabric softener. My towels are now big and fluff and very absorbent. :)
As a grown, middle aged man who knows more about dryer balls than I do about neurology (I'm a machinist if that makes the analogy clearer) I felt like I just bought them for a reason yet didn't know why. They were $1 and I wasn't sure if I had to stuff dryer sheets into them or what because there's no directions or user guidance on the packaging. Thanks for explaining this because I was too embarrassed to ask the clerk how to use them and your example made perfect sense. Take care.

I happened to go to use the dryer in my building. I took out the load that was in there and saw those balls. I feel lucky that the owner of the clothes came to get them right at the same time. I asked him about the balls thinking he was going to tell me they were to catch lint. He said it was to help drying, which is suuuuper nice. Our dryers need more than one cycle to completely dry clothes for most loads. He said that he stopped having to do multiple cycles to get his clothes dry once he started using these.
I just bought these today and dryer sheets. Haven't used the sheets. Don't think I'll ever go back to using the sheets. My clothes come out static free! I'm loving my dryer balls.
