In 2030, 100% of new cars will be electric. The reason is that once we solve the battery problem there is no reason to use oil anymore. And we are very close to solving the battery problem already, by 2022 new cars will regularly have 300+ miles of range and much more isn't needed. At that time charging infrastructure will also be ubiquitous, including slow chargers even for apartment dwellers.
Also, batteries drop in price like crazy which creates more demand and more incentives to push development more. By 2030 EVs will be cheaper than fossil cars and have better performance overall.

Don't wish to be negative but Nissan introducing that Hybrid gas-electric car they mentioned in Japan - seems like a retro step. Like they lost focus a bit from giving us a fully electric LEAF with 200 mile range. Maybe they got bogged down on the battery issue. I have suspected that for some time now. All that Autopilot stuff is great but 200 mile range at affordable price for everyone is more important right now. They need to do a Henry Ford and get it out to the masses. Ghosn did mention that they were no longer concerned about developing batteries in-house as there are so many battery makers now to choose from. So why don't they deliver a 200 mile range LEAF?

I do prefer Apple's Siri to MS Cortana. Having said that, i have had a wonderful experience with my 2011 LEAF but at almost 80,000 miles I am getting ready to think about a new one. Every bit of extra range you can offer helps. Living in a hot climate it is important to me that the battery of the new LEAF has better thermal management. An optional small auxiliary engine as in the BMW i3 is something I would definitely buy.
    Thanks for listening.

Really fascinating and exciting. Hope Nissan can bring these intelligent technologies to production cars sooner than their target.

Listening to Carlos reminds me of Elon Musk. Elon needs to head risks of buying other car companies. Human hate will feaster like it did towards Carlos in Japan.

Nissan have developed batteries for their own EV and they can't develop a decent Linux based infotainment system like Tesla did? for me that's money speaking and business decisions above what's best for the world, I sure won't be looking at the LEAF again for my next EV.

Indeed - for me it doesn't even need to be GNU/Linux-based. But there are toolkits like Qt Automotive Suite and IPAs like Lucinda - making it possible to integrate a wide range of services - instead of this Vendor-lock-Down approach. I really thought the human race had moved on.
Also as I understand it this year, Qualcomm was present with a Qt-based multiscreen prototype.
And - yes, something based on the Mer Project would be extreme pleasing.

Disappointed that the new Leaf was not announced for sale within a couple of months. Nissan will be losing market share to the Chevrolet Bolt and others that have newer technology and greater range. I have a regular 280 mile each way journey and need 160 miles at 80% battery charge.

The beauty of an EV is the lack of maintenance, but using that shitty AI software you'll be waiting for next update for some vulnerability or bug fixes, or even stuck in an outdated trashware in the middle of car's lifespan...

Cortana integration will mean Windows-only integration - no thanks, i take my life and vehicle, to serious for that.

I have a 1st gen LEAF and the worst part of this car is its infotainment system. If I knew it came with micorsoft built in I woudn't have made the reservation in 1st place. Can't even correct originally misplaced speed cameras position on map. So now that they announced cortana on board I know for sure that's not going to be in my next EV decision list.

no its not, cortana is cross-platform app now, its available on ios and android too. even tho she can do more on windows..:v

EEE - No matter what - this will end in being a micro Microsoft universe - with Microsoft services only integrated - like it always ends.
Oh - BTW - I believe you mean multiplatform.

Actually Cortana works on any platform as opposed to Google or Siri... plus Alexa and Cortana are able to interface with each other, e.g. calling Alexa from Cortana and vice versa... if anything its the most open of them. www.theverge.com/2017/8/30/16224876/microsoft-amazon-cortana-alexa-partnership

How come if he manages both Renault & Nissan-Renault Zoe upgraded the battery and that upgraded battery can be installed in old models but Nissan Leaf upgraded 30kwh cannot be installed in older models-bummer!!! Hence, old Nissan leaf models are losing values so quick nobody wants to own. So, people are wary of buying Nissan Leaf.

So disappointing that Ghosn favoured Renault. He was ideal CEO before Musk came along. That Macron and his selfish interest in tearing down Nissan was criminal. I'm hoping the best for Nissan.

AUTONOMOUS, 100% ELECTRIC AND CONNECTED CAR -THAT'S THE WAY TO GO FOR THE GLOBAL CAR INDUSTRY !
YOU CAN DRIVE WHEN YOU WANT TO AND YOU CAN LET THE CAR DRIVE YOU WHEN YOU ARE IN A CITY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC....
CONNECTING THE CAR YOU CAN START TO BE PRODUCTIVE IN IT, OR JUST LET THE CAR DRIVE YOU AS YOU ARE READING A NEWSPAPER OR DOING SOMETHING ELSE.
AND WITH THE ELECTRIC CAR YOU CAN DRIVE INSIDE CITIES WITHOUT EMITTING CO2 OR NOX.
NO NOISE, NO VIBRATIONS WHEN DRIVING THE ELECTRIC CAR ...AND NISSAN WITH ITS PARTNER RENAULT IS REALLY WELL ADVANCED ON ELECTRIC CAR TECHNOLOGY.
