I have been playing guitar since 1973 just to let you know I have some experience with this. Very subjective but I would say that John is just as good of a guitar player as Eddie. Much more diverse, not as successful but that means nothing to me.

I think John did an awesome job covering this, Eddie is a monster to cover. I think Eddie is one of the most unique and great rhythm guitar players of all time and were not even talking about his lead playing, Only thing is I never really loved Johns distortion tones. His clean tone is one of the all time greats though.

I'm pretty sure he's not pretending to do anything but have some fun, he's earned it. I think John did an awesome job covering this, Eddie is a monster to cover. I think Eddie is one of the most unique and great rhythm guitar players of all time and were not even talking about his lead playing, Only thing is I never really loved Johns distortion tones. His clean tone is one of the all time greats though.
John is a fine player, and I think he and his band are just having a good time, playin something out of the box for them. I'm pretty sure he's not pretending to do anything but have some fun, he's earned it. So what if he's not playing it "exactly like" the record or EVH, hell, go see VH 3 times in a row and you'll get 3 different versions from them. Lighten up.

A soundcheck is done before a show with no crowd. This was definitely in the middle of the actual show. And he did say it was for fun. I liked it. Not because it was so good but because he’s helping bring music I love to a new generation.
