Spoiler Alert: Miguel's lawyer gets his charge taken off, detectives have no case until bank records show that Zachary (victim) he was sending Maria monthly payments. They all had a deal for Maria to be a surrogate, Zachary threatened her that if she didn't they would be deported without the baby as it had Zachary's DNA. (Also money talks) Helen on the stand agrees with the statements because she and Miguel also had a deal that she would get him acquitted if she got to keep the baby, Maria refused. Miguel did actually kill him but due to the threat of being deported it was reduced to manslaughter, Maria fled the country and Helen's just being Helen.
Most babies do have blue eyes at birth. The pigmentation is usually fully developed for their true eye color by 3 months. It is very doubtful that anyone remembers what their eye color was at birth.

This is how the police can get false confessions. They needle you, find your weak point, & then threaten you into confessing. They used his wife & baby to force him into saying he did it. This is why you stay silent & ask for a lawyer immediately. Even though he was guilty in this case, a lot of others aren’t.
Yup. Threatening the welfare of a child to extract a confession ain't gonna hold up in court. I would almost be liable to do the same if my innocent wife and child were about to be tortured. The confession would never hold up and they would be letting this dude walk.
So many things wrong with this episode. How can you have an official cause of death at the crime scene without doing an autopsy? How do you know the victim officially suffered from cardiac arrest without an autopsy? It's illegal to obtain a DNA test from a minor without parental consent. That confession from Miguel was also weak.
Well I mean if the guy got shot in the chest then you can say it was a murder. If it was one to the head on their dominant side then it would be ruled a suicide. Detectives can think for themselves, autopsies are just for absolute confirmation.
Maria del Carmen, Maria Isabel(my mom and grand mom)Maria de la Purificacion, Maria de las Nieves, and these are only those I know personally. In the time of my mom and grandmom it was like all women were called Maria. I am from Spain.
Motive is a huge part of it all too. Sometimes even if you have evidence, if no clear motives are formed arrests are often delayed til motives are established.
this how real cops work....no witnesses, no evidence...they just pick someone and then lie and brow beat them until they confess....in the old days they use a leather sap or a night stick...I had friend that the cops just grabbed off the street in nyc, cops beat him to a pulp and left in cell...my friend was in college and had no criminal record....
Motive is how investigators determine who they might look at. People who have something to gain or otherwise a reason to kill. But even without a motive all a prosecutor needs is proof that the defendant in fact caused the death intentionally to convict on murder. The jury doesn't need to know why and sometimes nobody ever knows.
The whole taking one look and realizing Miguel can’t be the father is dumb. A lot of babies are born with blue eyes that then darken with age. Same with skin tone. Babies are pale
The detectives in this one jumped tp conclusions. I am African and some of my siblings, cousins and uncles including myself have blue eyes, some lighter than others. Some say it might be a genetic abnormality, others say it's a deficiency. I don't know. One thing I know is that I can't stand the sun, I don't like that dude. He's rude.
From reading other comments, it seems what he did was bully her into a surrogacy agreement and then threaten to deport both her and the boyfriend when she tried to back out, the main point being that Maria wanted to keep the baby and that's why her boyfriend killed her boss.
Good bosses? Every Friday after school I hung out in mum's bosses office at the bosses desk and coloured in, whilst he leaned against the wall as if he was sitting on a chair and went over the books with mum. Boss only sat at his desk for meetings the chair was never adjusted for him, he was adhd couldn't sit still and did stretches whilst reading nowadays we would say he was on the spectrum.
So the wife of the victim is behind the whole thing, Maria was suppsoed to be a surrogate for her and her husband but maria's husband didnt know...all because the wife didnt want stretch marks, morning sickness..you know a hyper-karen type who thought she was too good for all that.
It was him. The whole episode makes you think the wife was guilty but in the end you learn she was just the victim, she married for love and she has 3 miscarriages prior. Hence the need for a surrogate.
Briscoe: Miguel, Maria we have the DNA results, Miguel ... you are not the father !!! Miguel begins to dance while Maria runs to the nearest sofa, lies down on it and begins to cry XD

i always find it annoying in cop shows when they find a body and valuables werent stolen by the perpetrator. wouldnt it make more sense to take the victims cash and watch so it looks like a robbery?
I mean, maybe, but you're assuming all perpetrators are clever enough to try to make it look like a robbery. In real life, valuables aren't always stolen, either, and also, if you steal from them, you have to find a way to dispose of their valuables. If you keep them, they clearly prove you're the killer, if you sell them, someone will have witnessed you with them, and if you throw them away, and they're recovered, then it's obvious whoever the killer was just wanted it to look like a robbery.
I understand why they lie and even how they get away with it and especially why the husband reacts how he does. but I dont get why they do it with murder. sure it all lines up but I dont think its enough. just because the reason is there you cannot prove the husband did it. I have plenty of reason to fight people but if they get beat up even if it was risking my family I wouldn't go down for a crime I didn't commit. (different scenario but same principals) and I would hope the actual bully gets caught
I don't think it's right that they told the mother that Jose wasn't Miguel's. Sure, she knows it's unlikely, but denial is sometimes a good thing. She's not a victim or a suspect.
