@@MadGunny Allow me to correct myself. It isn't a mental disorder, but it MAY be diagnosed as an individual specific phobia, IF the level of legitimate FEAR it causes in the sufferer is excessive, persistent, and associated with significant distress or impairment. But they must exhibit that level of actual fear from exposure to seeing the holes/images of them for it to be diagnosable as a phobia. The issue is that most ppl don't actually experience a significant fear response, they experience a disgust response, otherwise known as an aversion. And, as it turns out, there may be biological reasons to have an aversion to the appearance or presence of such clusters of small & irregular holes. It's possible that ppl developed the aversion as a way to avoid certain infectious or parasitic illnesses/diseases or dangerous organisms (eg. insects, spiders, snakes, frogs, or perhaps even some plants). Now, if a biological reason for the aversion to trypophobic images or sights can be confirmed, then the overwhelming majority of ppl who claim to be "trypophobic" or have "trypophobia" are most likely just experiencing a natural aversion that most ppl share to a lesser or greater degree, a sense of disgust that a large portion of the population also experiences along a spectrum of severity.
@@jxrizzle111 you're not wrong, but it's probably a little of both if I had to guess. He wants it to sell for way more than it's worth, and the people who buy these things have money flowing out of their pockets
This cost a lot in resin and time. For a unique one of a kind piece of art this labor intensive that’s a fair price. The fact it’s a charred log instead of plastic that looks like a log is what makes the price a little higher. Wiring a light and filling the interior with deep pore resin is where the cost really is. Resin is not as cheap as a lot of people think it is. And it takes a lot of time to apply it properly without air bubbles.
"There's a fool born every minute". Couldn't be a truer statement, since some schmuck paid $2500 for a partially-burnt piece of firewood. The piece must have 'spoken' to them.
Not the piece. The artist. Guy has literally talked to us for hour after hour. Imagine you're a guy with a few million in your bank account and you watched like half this channel's videos, because the presentations and the detailed work appeal to you. If you like the artist behind the woodworking commentary, it makes some sense that it would appeal to you to buy the guy's creative endeavours instead of his perfected tables. It gives a different insight with more unique personality. And buying it sends a message supporting the channel owner in doing more than just the crowd-approved same same every day. You're sponsoring a talented artist who's living his life in a way that appeals to you to do more of what he does, and continue to be daring. It's like funding a talented student with a scholarship/grant, except you even get a fancy garden décor lamp in return.
Side note: This shouldn’t really trigger trypophobia It’s just some dents, not holes Although i guess it’s individual but as someone who had a panic attack from watching too many holes, i could watch this forever The issue isn’t different texture or something similar. @@OfficialReckM8 Yeah and back when the binder in wood (lignin) that held the fibers together wasn't digestible to nature, the trees ended up as a massive pile of coal.
This is why I make stuff myself. I’ve made thousands of dollars and apparently saved thousands too. 🤣 my coffee table is a slab I found and doctored up. I’ve seen similar tables going for thousands. Being a craftsman is priceless.
Therefore you realize that $2,500 means he probably cleared about $15/hr. if he was lucky. Being a maker of things these comments are like needles in my eyes. The supplies and tools for this creation are very expensive, not to mention what it takes to keep a white American man and his family alive today, and let's not leave out the fact that this dude is a master of his craft. I'm not a huge fan of the plastic and wood thing but this piece is pretty kick ass. I know preaching to the choir here, just gets me fired up when seemingly the majority think $2,500 for a burnt log is asinine.
@@ticklefritz5406 dude, 2500 is too much for this. im a welder and i do thing for me constantly and i do understand your point, but you cant just make math and come to the result that 2500 is what it costs. you cant spect to pay every tool with one job. its like if i buy a factory full of tools and machines and sell only one table for 5 million dolars. also if you spend too much time working on the project, you start loosing money. you cant spend a year making one table and then charge all these hours. time is money and it goes against the builder. just think about the ancient jobs, how much they worked and how much they got paid. it was like that because it was fair to everyone.
@@ticklefritz5406 if he buys EVERY tool and EVERY material (resin, paint...) he already owns again for every single project... then the price of 2500$ is justified. Otherwise please explain why a chunk of burned wood and a bucket of resin + maybe 2-3 days of work would sum up to 2500$?
Normally Trypophobia triggers from an object having multiple deep small holes on a smooth surface. Unfortunately not only is the piece too dark, but the texturing is both too shallow and too uniform to trigger the phobia. I would liken it to a honeycomb pattern, which is another item that is only one or two factors away from being terrifying. A good example of an object that would trigger this effect is a pumice stone.
How can you say that this either will or will not trigger somebody's phobia.? I mean it was enough to trigger mind and I'm watching it on my phone and still my hair stood up on my arms in the back of my neck but the funny thing is I can use a pumice stone on my feet it does not bother me one bit. Maybe because I'm blind and I can barely see the holes in it or what but it does not bother me but this burnt log on the other hand is a trigger from hell
For me, trypophobia isn't the fear of these hole shapes, it's the fear of what made them, and/or what lives inside them. So in essence it actually triggers my parasiphobia.
The trick is you have to live in and ship to one of the big rich, democrat cities. If you got the skills, good money to be made in turning scrapwood into art furniture and selling it to the rich.
I thought trypophobia was for holes? Do those craters count just as well? Like, if you can see how deep it goes, and if it doesn't actually go past the surface, does it still count? And then I have to wonder if looking at cheese graters counts too 🤔 I'll be back, I gotta look into this

@@RuinedTemple BS it dosnt! Lol this table dosent really trigger that phobia though. The small holes need to be more uniform and look organic
@@MadGunny
Allow me to correct myself.

The supplies and tools for this creation are very expensive, not to mention what it takes to keep a white American man and his family alive today, and let's not leave out the fact that this dude is a master of his craft.

A good example of an object that would trigger this effect is a pumice stone.
zzz
How can you say that this either will or will not trigger somebody's phobia.? I mean it was enough to trigger mind and I'm watching it on my phone and still my hair stood up on my arms in the back of my neck but the funny thing is I can use a pumice stone on my feet it does not bother me one bit. Maybe because I'm blind and I can barely see the holes in it or what but it does not bother me but this burnt log on the other hand is a trigger from hell
Pumice stone? Really?
That must be one extremely inconvenient fear
I was freaked out by sheet music before bc it was a very fast & notey song. Lots of little black dots that reminded me of trypto-triggers
For me, trypophobia isn't the fear of these hole shapes, it's the fear of what made them, and/or what lives inside them. So in essence it actually triggers my parasiphobia.
