- At the 2007 Laureus World Sports Awards, Franz Beckenbauer received the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award. Fellow Academy Member Sir Bobby Charlton and Johan Cruyff presented Franz with his Award and spoke warmly about 'The Kaiser', a man they respected greatly. Sir Bobby shared a fascinating story about the roles he and Franz played in the 1966 World Cup final.

Bobby Charlton und Johann Cruyff waren ebenso exzellente Spieler und Persönlichkeiten und ehren Franz. Wunderbar! Charlton verstorben im Oktober 2023, Cruyff März 2016 und jetzt der Kaiser. Sie treffen sich jetzt oben und kicken dort weiter.

Franz Beckenbauer....the greatest German player in history. He was a phenomenal coach....a phenomenal FC Bayern München President....he leaves a gapping hole.
I hope we soon will see again players like him or Lothar Matthäus....but in the moment German football isn't doing that great in the nationalteam....the U17 shows that the talent is there....but wheres the modern Klose, Klinsmann, Völler, Kuntz, Rummenigge, Riedle, Kirsten, Gomez, Bierhoff?
We can only hope that Florian Wirtz & Jamal Musiala can change things in the long term....it is also sad that Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are not playing the way we all know they could.
It is also quite sad that we don't have a classic defensive 6....we had Steffen Freund, Jens Jeremies, Dieter Eilts, Guido Buchwald and others....real interceptors infront of the center backs....a dead position.
Thomas Müller, Ilkay Gündogan, Toni Kroos and Manuel Neuer are in their last years....Kroos has been treated like they now seem to attempt to treat Joshua Kimmich....
We also have a Coaching problem....Tuchel and Klopp are the last remaining World Elite coaches.
Let's hope the DfB and the Bundesliga Clubs are working on solutions....

Cruyff was wrong of Beckenbauer being the only man to have won the World Cup as a player and a Manager, but Zagallo also did it, even before Beckenbauer. But the Kaiser holds holds the paradoxical distinction of being the only person to have won and lost a world cup final both as a player and a manager.
