    The characters of Tagore’s stories spring into life through the cinematic imagination of acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Basu in ‘Stories By Rabindranath Tagore’.
    ‘Stories By Rabindranath Tagore’ shares with us the intricately etched characters created by the master himself and brought onto the small screen by the visionary director of ‘Barfi’ and ‘Life in a Metro.’ Set in a politically volatile period, the stories are constantly shifting in the social world of the early twentieth century in undivided Bengal.
    The hub of new India, Calcutta is the melting pot where our protagonists are pouring in from their rural, social and cultural spaces to encourage this upcoming new world. Tagore, the most articulate feminist of his times, saw his women as intelligent, adventurous, chance takers and almost always resisting the family and the social establishment. Unlike ordinary characters, these personalities pack a rebellious punch. They break the traditional paths and root themselves into our hopeful hearts. We fight alongside them as they break out from their socio-religious confines.
    The audience, in our times too, will find this world engaging as well as challenging; feeling attached to their emotions, issues, drama and anxieties. Basu retains Tagore’s narrative style even in the visual medium and enhances the words of his pages by casting talent that truly captures the essence of each of his beloved characters. He delves deeper into this society in transition, with songs, music, cultural references and its newfound political and social expressions, a little more than the actual described world within Tagore’s narratives.
    Tagore’s words and Basu’s vision have amalgamated into a show that transports you back in time to a world as complicated as this one but with far more appeal and beauty.

    I had tears in barely a minute , it takes me back to my class 10 days , We had this story in our syllabus , and everytime I read this story it tears me up and makes me very emotional , I guess it's because I am a girl , and the way Tagore Sir wrote this showing how as daughters grow up they kind of get distanced , things are not the same , the frankness fades. And the pain of Kabuliwallah , his separation from his daughter , living in a foreign land . All that made it even more emotional for me.

    Munni grew up. Many years later, seeing Munni, Kabuliwala uncle remembered her daughter,

      Well you described it right except the last part. Kabuliwala was very poor and he was in jail for so many years. When he was released, he came to mini first and seeing mini is all grown up and getting married he realised he has a daughter at her age too who might has grown up just like mini. He wished to go back to his country and see her, so mini's father gave him the money which he saved for mini's wedding musicband. Then the Kabuliwala left

      Addition: Mini was only 5 years old when she used to play with Kabuliwala, so when Kabuliwala came to meet her after so many years, she couldn't recognise him. Sad but realistic

      Mou Dhar Same here.I have known this story from the time I was 8 years old or older and it is such a heartwarming story,with a moral that we might forget someone of the most loving people of our lives but they might never forget us, never ever I tell you. And the way Munni's father helped Kabuliwala shows what a big hearted person he was,and it is indeed rare to find such people today.What which is most appealing is in the end both are happy both Munni and Kabuliwala.However don't know about the marriage part.

    In my highschool days i found one of Tagore's books in my school library, i picked it for our weekly reading program because i rarely found indian literature where i came from (im indonesian) aside from religious teaching.This Kabuliwala story is also in the book and i remembered that i shed a tear while reading it, I didnt expect that Tagore's writing could move me in such a way. Ever since then Rabindranath Tagore has become one of my favorite writer

    Rabindranath Tagore was just 8th Pass and he is world famous author. The stories represents his thoughts about humans . Proud to be a Bengali . May God bless me so that I can too do something for my country and make my country proud

    • @SauvikRoy
      @SauvikRoy 2 года назад +1

      Tagore wasn't 8th pass like you are trying to put it here. Don't send the wrong message. He studied other literature outside India, and was a very skilled writer who attained eloquence by rigorous study and efforts. Uneducated people are a disgrace to the progress of the nation, and I deeply dislike them. Call yourself 'proud to be Bengali' when you have added one bit of shine to the nation.

    As a kid, i read the short story,"kabuliwala", by rabindra nath tagore as a prescribed course inclusion. I had loved the story back then and when I fortunately got a chance to watch this magnificent piece of art a few months back, it was like an explosion in my head. After having watched some of Sahni's spectacular works in "do bigha zameen" and "garam hawa", one would expect to recognize him at once, but the authenticity and versatility of his role is such that you could not know any better, even after having so fondly watched and admired the character on screen for 134 minutes.
