  • Ram is getting some big upgrades for the 2025 Model year trucks! New diesel engine and possibly a new gas engine? 8 speed transmissions will replace the older 6 speed 68RFE powertrain. This will be a huge upgrade for Ram owners!
@TFLtruck also bringing some great content on this new potential Gas cummins engine.

@GORT70 I've seen pictures / specs. of the Cummins gas engine, which is going to be called the B6.7 octane engine. Inline 6 turbocharged DOHC dual cam phasers, GDI, aluminum head, and NO EGR! Base engine will be very similar to the diesel, just a piston change. Emissions will be one single three-way catalyst behind the turbo and that's it! I REALLY hope they offer this engine in the RAM truck! I saw ratings of up to 325HP & 660lb.ft. of torque which would destroy any other gas engine in the towing department.

All the 8-speed gains is a super low 1st and an extra gear at greater than 1:1. It’ll still have 2 overdrive gears and the same final drive (0.64:1). It won’t improve fuel economy over the current 6-speed…. Now I WISH the 8 speed had a final “hyperdrive” gear, about 0.54:1, which would drop the Cummins to 1600 RPM at the common interstate speed of 80 mph. It would only be viable unloaded, but my ears would perk up for that.

The problem with the new cab is they don’t have a single cab configuration for it, and many companies buying them for fleet vehicles want a single cab. It’s the same reason the 1500 classic is still being built, to provide a single cab option to fleet buyers. It would make sense to me if they put the HD ZF behind one single high output Cummins Diesel and the already outgoing ZF behind a gas Cummins. The docs on the ZF Powerline have it listed for 1000lbft of torque capacity, less than the current Cummins HO. It would be a hard sell to only give customers 1000lbft going forward, though GM buyers don't seem to care. I really doubt we'll see the Cummins agnostic engine as a gasser in the HD Ram. It's just too expensive.

I think Ram will ditch the aisin and make it all 8 speeds. Ho and So, sadly i dont think the cab will get changed yet. After all, the mega cab option is still as good as the competition. As far as the cummins gas engine, i think we are still at least 3 years away from that being a possibility. This zf trans has been getting tested in the ram HD for at least 5 years already. ...I think that the cab changes drag a little over the 1500's is that guys buying the HD's are working them and are less concerned with cab specs....I know that I would be, whereas guys buying the 1500 tend to be more as a family rig and are more concerned with creature comforts etc. I don't know if a new gas six would be a thing as they currently have one in the Hurricane that has decent numbers...as far as reliability, if the Cummins gas thing is new as well then the Hurricane has more miles under it's belt and unless there are major issues with it I don't see spending money on re-tooling for an engine that may not have a big following...sure diesels have to deal with emissions junk ...but it's still an inline 6.7L...and that's a tough hill to climb.

The thing i love most about the 68 is i can pull it rebuild it and have it back in the truck in a day. I have been a ram diesel mechanic for 10 years and have seen more Aisain transmissions fall apart than the 68. Usually 68 issues are valve body related most the time. People have given it a bad name but with minor changes it can be pretty bullet proof. Also i run a 200 horse tune with stage 1 80 horse injectors. Truck runs and drives amazing and pulls hills like it's unloaded. Had it 6 years now. Always starts and is always ready to pull anything ( and j do mean anything) without issues.
