Let me know if I missed anyone or if anybody should be added to the list!
I was there !!! At the coliseum in Oakland. What a performance by the legend himself!
I and my date WERE on the FRONT ROW when he sang this in '74 Memphis. People out of their seats, tears, joy, epic, to the core of my very soul! The very heavens rained down such love and passion! He and the band were in another world on this night. Remember it like it was yesterday. MARVIN!!! All you have to say; 'can't touch this.'
In '60s he sang with Tammy Terrell; a beautiful lady and voice. They were actually in love with each other. '69 she died suddenly of brain tumour. Marvin (and all of us) was devastated; took off 6 months just to begin to heal. He wrote this song for her.
lucky to have witnessed it
@@julissagu was incredible--
I would have given up so much to have been able to be at that concert. The women were screaming like crazy. Marvin's my favorite musician of all time
Them women hollering made "Distant Lover" worth while 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. This the version we played to death at our house. Marvins voice is EVERYTHING 🎤
ZenaAubrey, I know! This was the only live version that was played at my house until the grooves wore off! LOL!! (tc57) 😃😃
@@tammyc259This the only version I wanna hear. Everyone could go crazy over this here version
I WAS AT THAT CONCERT IN 74 AT THE OAKLAND COLSEIUM IN WHICH MY PARENTS TOOK US. IT WAS SO 🔥AND I STILL HAVE THE POSTER/ TICKET STUB. 70'S WAS EVERYTHING. 😍🥰🤩😎
Best version of this track A classic.
This is the version they played on the radio when I was growing up. The crowd screaming in the beginning is classic.
Everyone on youtube reacting to this song should react to this version
YES!! It's the RIGHT ONE!!!!! THIS!!! There is no other live version I acknowledge...LOL
Yay!... You finally got the right version.👏
If folks don't get chills when the girls start screaming at beginning middle and end.. Well..
Yes this is the live version that has to be heard! Gives you chills the way the audience reacts.
@@nkcbrazil 👍
Dee Watts:. Big chills. Every guy listening to this pictures themselves up on that stage receiving those screams.
A Favorite Marvin Gaye's Song of mine ..He's a Legend!!! He has the Ladies Weak (Lol) ...CLASSIC!!
Agreed! Incredible live version!
You have to listen to his live version of the National Anthem during an NBA game. The smoothest rendition ever, hands down !!!!
1983 NBA All Star Game
Right on 🎉
his version of 'The LORD's Prayer' is incredible, worship of our LORD JESUS MESSIAH --
HELL YEAH.....this is the version black radio always played here in NYC....GOAT artist and GOAT performance.....lol....im ready to fight anyone that hates this song.....Marvin was and always will be the man.....great reaction
Yesss I love the live version
Yes the one and only!
This is only one of very few I’d rather hear live. That man could jam!!!❤️❤️
Silky Silky SOUL SINGER...🎤🎶🎶❤✝️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Do you remember? That special one, very special one….
Yessss this is my favorite version. Marvin say pleeaassss baby plsss, come back baby, come back home!!! 💕 There is a live video of this song and a few more
Something about the way he sings PLEASE....just gets me every time.
@@TaylorMadeCori I know, everytime! Marvin be in his feelings and we love it.
Ohhhhhhh baby 😁
It doesn't get any smoother than this.I believe the sound you heard were the ladies undies melting as Marvin was crooning to them like nobody else can. This is my all time favorite version of this song
My favorite musician of all time. He was a genius and one of a kind
Great request Mother Pop, this is one of my favorite songs by Marvin. When I first heard this song back in the day, the crowd respond to this song blew me away. Marvin made a lot of love songs in his career, but in my humble opinion this was his best one.....I never grow tired of hearing this song....
Marvin is dearly missed. It was a great time to be alive
And the women went WILD with SCREAMING Marvin had them on 🔥 with 2 words when Marvin said in the beginning Distant Lover 💕 and I was one of those wild women that was on🔥 Wow right now what a flashback memory August 24, 2021
I LOVE... LOVE... LOVE this LIVE Version. And I LOVE the Screams!!
LOVE❤️Marvin Gate
This is a cold classic live performance..give it up to The Funk Brothers
Can you imagine being there at that concert🤩🥰😱🤯☺️😄 Marvin Gaye and Teddy P concerts must’ve been the hottest tickets in town. Wow ✨💚💖💫
The best version. Oakland Cali
The first time I saw Marvin in person was also in Oakland at the Oakland Auditorium. He was then brand new on the national music scene singing "Stubborn Kind of Fellow". If you didn't know, Marvin was a musical genius.
I remember those days. In fact, I think I was in my early teens 🎶😊
Thanks MP for getting us to the best version of this song. 💪🏽
"What's Going On," is the song because of the meaning and the emotions behind it.
JJ I KNEW you'd get around to listening to this version. Marvin was a nervous wreck when it came to live performances. He absolutely HATED it but in his lifetime he cranked out a handful of truly awe inspiring live recordings. THIS is a master class in how an artist and a crowd can truly become one with each other.
I have no doubt that some women at the Coliseum that night fainted and/or threw their panties at him!
Pure greatness
THEEEEEEEEE BEST version for SURE❣️❣️❣️❣️
This song just brings tears to my eyes. What a talent.
Everyone at this concert is getting some. This man is responsible for a sizeable portion of the planet.
Just Jammin’…the look on your face @2:11! That’s what good music does.🙂
I had grooves in his Greatest hits CD from repeating this. (I know grooves are for vinyl😂)
Mother 🍿💪
The best version! you feel this!! dayumm! songs to break up too! to heal you!
Marvin Gaye.."It's Too Late"
it's so good, this is my fav by him.
great live version of a classic marvin tune
There is a live video of that concert out there my brother. Marvin had a cold during that concert. Check out the live video performance in its entity. 🎶🎤💯
You should definitely check out Teena Marie's "My Dear Mr. Gaye". It has remnants of this song in it. Of course, it was dedicated to Marvin. In one part she says:
"I miss you, but I'm not gonna cry, baby, cause you left me a musical memory."
The man had the audience in his hand!
YES! one of my Favourites. Also the song Mercy Mercy Me by Marvin Gaye. 💕🎶 Beautiful music!
At that time, I had this album and Earth, Wind, & Fire Live and to me these were the best live albums I have ever heard. I also like Rod Stewart and Faces they were at Angel Stadium I seen them live and they were very good also back in 1972. I went with my cousin Billy, and I have great memories. He is no longer with us he passed on in October of 2021.
This is definitely the definitive time for me, so good
I felt it when the crowd went wild at the beginning of the song! He had a way with the crowd.
OAKTOWN CA ITS UNUSUAL FOR A LIVE VERSION OF A SONG TO BE BETTER THEN THE REGULAR VERSION BUT ITS AWESOME
In English Marvin Gaye was the Best Singer that EVER lived!!!!!
What a chilling performance by Marvin, incredible vocal range and ability,R Kelly in concert sounds similar too ..
I had a lot of soul in the 70's. Then I met a girl in the 80's and she turned me on to Depeche Mode who I saw at the Rose Bowl and started liking all the groups from the U.K. The Cure, The Smiths, The Clash, Culture Club and New Order and so many others. Love can change you that is for sure.
I love it Beautiful i love Marvins music
Too bad the audio on this video ended when it did because right before he starts the next song this one lady (who must've been close to a mic) lets out this huge scream which sends chills down your spine.
"Bleeds Honey"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know you also heard the London performance, but THIS is the live version most of us remember from back in the day. This is the one they played on the radio most often. A true classic.
there's no better version of this song than this
You paused it at the key moment: ' When you left you took all of me with you.'
RIP Tammi Terrell
What I found to be equally compelling was what the young brother said after pausing "What a time to be alive." So true. so very true.
Oh yes, this is a wonderful song to celebrate Juneteenth signed into a National Holiday. I love this guy, so talented and so good today on 19th June 2021. Thanks for playing this jam and yes I know you love it (see it on your face).
Distant Lover and Let’s Get It On we’re head to head hits off the same LP, I’m in the Let’s Get On camp, though this is a close second. You’re right about concerts then and now, then we were present, now people have phones up and are missing the connection to the artist.
Love the comments at around 5:46. Indeed, it was a very different era of music listeners; when folk went to concerts specifically to enjoy the music and the live show...not to get a good vantage point to bootleg the footage. Excellent observation.
I'm sure that after a Marvin Gaye concert - especially if this was the closing song - if he didn't get your woman brought backstage for some 1-on1 action, she was gonna come home and put that thang on ya like it's never been put on ya before. Haha.
A Marvin favorite! YOu are on fire today...O'Neal and LTD? Now if you would do , "Don't Say No Tonight, "
You made me just think of “If I Should Die Tonight.” That’s another incredible song by Marvin that gets no recognition and has to be heard.
this song was his dedication to tami terrell...ifnu look up the actual live perforemance, in the uk....he actually kimda breaks down and cries
check out Marin live in Meautrix 1980..will blow your mind!!
JJ you on fireeee
he is on his knees singing
Stank U JJ 4 doing the best live version of this classic,U bowt 2 get sooooooo many replies my Man!!!Marvinz pipes & that audiance!!!
Yes the audience always gave this i iconic sound and of course marvin singing lord
Jammmmm
🔥🔥🔥🔥
This a deep song
i remember my dad telling me he saw him in concert in cherry hill nj.He was late for the show.he did the concert in a robe.😂
This one of the best reaction channels
Thanks!
There's video just search Marvin Gaye live. Belgium and Montreux. They're both on YT. I watch them often.
Marvin Gaye and Teddy Pendergrass were the panty dropping artists of the day. Those guys did something to women that hasn't been mastered since. Both gone too soon. Great reaction.
💯💯💯💯💯💯
Them gals is hollering 🤣😂..I like the recorded version.
❤😊❤
there is a video of this concert you will enjoy it if you can find it, i have it
Marvin gaye just to be satisfied
I was at this concert…This concert was in Louisville, Kentucky not California
Kanye west sampled this on his classic spaceship 😍
This was recorded in Louisville Kentucky….I KNOW….i was there….not Oakland California

All that talkingYou just could had come at the end of the song not we were in tune in the song
Sung as only Marvin could sing. One of the things I have hated in crowded concerts has been the craziness of the crowd at big stadiums. That Coliseum is still standing. It is annoying as hell to be next to people who are screaming at the top of their lungs.
