Joblot on eBay always means "I've taken everything nice and useful from this console and now I'm selling this shite husk of a system on to screw someone" it Might be annoying losing some money on the console but I'm always amazed that techs like yourself can take a piece of e-waste garbage and restore it back into a working console. That's really nice to see and way beyond anything that I could ever do. Hopefully, the video will claw back some of your losses but either way always great to see a machine saved.
May I suggest you use guitar picks to open consoles? You can get a pack of 25 with 4 different thicknesses for less than 5 quids and they even come in a metal box. Less chances to scratch/damage plastics. Also you should report the seller. 🙂
There's 2 ways of looking at the seller. Maybe they did buy some machines in an auction or something and realised that didn't work or, like you suggest, they used it to fix the other ones and decided to sell it as not working properly (which I think has probably happened). I admire you being able to fix them because I wouldn't have a clue with some things and to be honest, whilst I do like taking things apart, if it's very complicated, I usually end up with one or two screws left over lol, so I don't usually bother. Thanks for this video, I enjoy watching them :)
I did something similar not long ago. Bought a lot of 3 consoles, two S and one X. I shouldn't have bought a lot anyway because they are never good. When I got them, they were carefully "put together" to look like a complete console. Two of them had less than half the screws (in bags), one didn't even have the X clamp. I'm usually pretty good about weeding out the eBay scammers but this one got me. I learned my lesson! I am still excited to see if I can get them running. Just more challenging.
They get us all mate, don't feel bad about it. It happens to the best of us. I actually bought a bunch of 4 one x consoles the other day, I won't say much because I have a video coming for them but they were actually genuinely listed which was nice to see
Looks like someone with small kids owned it at one point and they posted a few things in the slot. Even though you lost out a bit on the money front, it made for some great content. Keep it up Phil, it's great to watch you bring these devices back from the brink.
Yeah I was thinking the same mate, definitely a kid. You're right there, sometimes giving up a little money at least makes for good content and I'll make it back on the video revenue so it's not too bad
Was rooting for you all the way through that one. Message the seller and atleast ask for the screws :) maybe one day the key will open something truly profitable. Well done !
wow that thing was a hot mess lol nice work man i love your videos i have been binge watching them the last few days and im addicted keep up the great content man!!
Hard to find honest sellers these days, If I'm looking for things on eBay these days I check their other listings and history to make sure it's not some dodgy repair shop flogging off their failed attempts, then I check recent sales prices for my area and then costs of parts to perform the repair if the issue is known then I set myself a max bid price taking into account costs and postage to leave a bit of head room. Great watch anyway 👌 thanks again for sharing!
Phil, I watched all the video, all the ads, clicked as many buttons as I could, hopefully, you get your money's worth for your time, work and sharing :P please bring back Pew pew, I miss shooting yar a$$
Years ago I dropped my keys walking to the parking lot, when picking them up I saw what looked like my apt key laying next to them, picked it up thinking my key had came off, got back home from the store opened my apt with the key, later that night I was going to put it back on the key ring only to find my key was still there, eventually found out it opened the door knob lock on the 40 apts in the complex. I havent lived there in many years but still think I have the key.
That was a lot of hard work and a very interesting watch. I tend to err on the side of an innocent (dumb?) seller having been scammed themselves having bought a poorly repaired unit. Hope the next one is a bit more straightforward. Keep up the great work 😀👍
Hi phil when you get them headphone jacks for your rode wireless go could you do a video on replacing it the only video i seen the guy didn't show replacing he only talked about it yours would be the first
Missing power port and no history would be a red flag for me, definitely a brave buy but made for a good video. Have a look what the seller trades, may give you a clue on their honesty. Surprising how robust these consoles are with a little tlc.
I believe you about the key your brother in law found. I used to hold master keys for BT exchanges when I did callout years ago and I could open lots of other locks with that, very handy. I even unlocked a Police station comms room with it once, you should of seen the Sergeants face, lol.
Haha wow I'd have loved to see that, that's hilarious 😂 imagine what went through the copper's mind 🤣 I do know when I was locked up in Oakwood prison I used to talk to the guards (they really aren't bad people) and they said if they ever had even a key to a cupboard go missing they lock the entire place down and replace every single lock. Funny enough, I have an Xbox One S with the same issue. The display occassionally flickers on and off. It was a lot worse with major artifacting but after cleaning it that is more or less gone (with some minor). Thankfully it was cheap anyway
Ah, yeah it could've just been the port but I just preferred to change the encoder, that way I know it's good since my encoders come direct from Mouser so I know they're genuine
Another great video. Really enjoy watching you fix these things, your videos are getting better every time. I like how you explain what you are doing much more these days, really useful for noobs like me to try to fix similar stuff. Keep up the good work. :)
Great fix Phil but why did you not sent it back. Did the seller said he ,as complete the console or did you know there was no hdd or psu before you buy it Btw did you receive the downloadlink for the usefull information and shemattic i gathere.d
Thanks mate, honestly I saw it as a challenge to my manhood haha. I knew it had no psu but the hdd I didn't know about. I don't think I did get the link to be honest
had similar the other day, i mainly work on vcrs bought an ez49v as spares or repairs , opened it to find a previous recap attempt, 11 caps replaced and every one had torn traces on the board was not worth the time to repair, left him a negative, could tell as soon as i got it as the screws had been replaced with non standard ones , i never believe the bullshit lies
That's a tough one mate. Beep on beep off are very tricky to diagnose because if it isn't something obvious like a burnt component or liquid damage it can be literally anything on the board causing it
Do you ever stumbled across an xbox one x bad hdd sata cable? Is that a known problem? I kept getting random errors and replaced the hdd with an new ssd. Still random errors. Eventually i found a video suggesting to replace the sata cable and no problems since then.
I would try to file a claim, even if you lose you tie up the money for a while just as an eff you to the guy. At the end of the day that was not an honest ebay post.
I wouldn't be too harsh on the seller what he said could be true. It was disclosed so you should have stopped bidding. You always tend to talk yourself into things and justify it by saying to yourself it will probably work fine. Owning up that you bid too much for something is hard to do.
Loving the videos mate it’s helping me learn so I know what to look out for and it’s helped me buy a Xbox one s of eBay as well like I said keep up the lovely work.
There’s a world of difference between selling a broken item for parts and an item that has 50% of its major parts missing.

Great fix Phil but why did you not sent it back. Did the seller said he ,as complete the console or did you know there was no hdd or psu before you buy it
Btw did you receive the downloadlink for the usefull information and shemattic i gathere.d
Thanks mate, honestly I saw it as a challenge to my manhood haha. I knew it had no psu but the hdd I didn't know about. I don't think I did get the link to be honest
@@TheCod3r ok to which email adress i can sent it then?
Please clean that controller.
had similar the other day, i mainly work on vcrs bought an ez49v as spares or repairs , opened it to find a previous recap attempt, 11 caps replaced and every one had torn traces on the board was not worth the time to repair, left him a negative, could tell as soon as i got it as the screws had been replaced with non standard ones , i never believe the bullshit lies
Hey mate great video I bought an xbox today and it won't power up the light comes on for a second then goes away any idea whats wrong?
That's a tough one mate. Beep on beep off are very tricky to diagnose because if it isn't something obvious like a burnt component or liquid damage it can be literally anything on the board causing it
@@TheCod3r it sounds like it won't power up cant even hear the fan come on just cuts out. Do u think it mite just be the power supply?
Do you ever stumbled across an xbox one x bad hdd sata cable? Is that a known problem? I kept getting random errors and replaced the hdd with an new ssd. Still random errors. Eventually i found a video suggesting to replace the sata cable and no problems since then.
Yes mate there was an issue with some of the earlier models where the sata cables were defective from factory
@@TheCod3r Thank you. I really like your work
I would try to file a claim, even if you lose you tie up the money for a while just as an eff you to the guy. At the end of the day that was not an honest ebay post.
It was a body donor Xbox. No way was that as described. Negative feedback
I didn't even bother to be honest, pointless wasting my time lol
always good to leave feedback so others can avoid
I wouldn't be too harsh on the seller what he said could be true. It was disclosed so you should have stopped bidding. You always tend to talk yourself into things and justify it by saying to yourself it will probably work fine. Owning up that you bid too much for something is hard to do.
Good job pro 😍😍
Thanks bud
Loving the videos mate it’s helping me learn so I know what to look out for and it’s helped me buy a Xbox one s of eBay as well like I said keep up the lovely work.
Imagine if this key was for a secret locker full of money hidden by a spy which stole it from Irish mob and then got killed. Unreal
Haha we can dream eh 😅
You didn’t put any thermal paste on
I definitely did lol
