Ulfric, the actual good werewolf commander: Non-human werewolves you control can't transform 2RG: transform target werewolf. There you have it. It's power, thoughness, mana cost and other abilities are irrelevant. The cost to flip a werewolf could be tweaked, and maybe the wording is faulty, but that's what a werewolf tribal needs. Immerwolf in the command zone and a way to flip your human werewolves.
Wanted to highlight something for Plios; at 9:20 you mentioned that you could cast Sepulchral Primordial for 1 black, but it would still cost 2 black. Gatherer highlighted this with the rule on Lashweed Lurker "Colored mana components of emerge costs can’t be reduced with emerge"
Thresh, the Chain Warden (I made a series of League-themed commanders awhile back): Legendary Creature, subtype Skeleton Guardian, cost UUUBBB. It is a 6/6 with Shroud, Lifelink, and Deathtouch. It also has "Whenever a creature your opponent controls dies as a result of combat damage from a creature you control, put a +1/+1 counter on this card. Then if 6 or more +1/+1 counters are on this card, it gains Hexproof and First Strike, then loses Shroud." Shroud in this instance is used to discourage Voltron sets, as it prevents Thresh from gaining power/toughness through means aside from its ability, unless you're running something janky like an arcane adaptation in a zombie tribal to boost Thresh indirectly via a group effect. However, as Thresh is a support, it is also fitting that he can gain his souls (+1/+1 counters) from deaths your other creatures cause in combat. Then of course, once he's a 12/12 from +1/+1 counters alone, he has increased in power enough to warrant some kind of reward for meeting his specific criteria. First Strike Deathtouch is especially powerful, but you've got to work a little extra for it. Then gaining Hexproof before losing Shroud should protect it from Split-Second removal. Speaking of which I made another commander awhile back with a very high cost and abysmally low stats, but has the effect of giving all your spells Flash and Split-Second, as well as a seedborn muse effect. I think it was like 9 mana total on a 0/4 Shroud body to give it protection without boosting it further with other equipments or auras.
Actually got a custom Commander in the works based on a D&D Character of mine (who was subsequently inspired by a lot of other sources). A politics themed Mardu colored Goblin all about money and greed. Basically, a real old-school mob boss type that wants to "make you an offer you can't refuse." If you accept, you benifit, but he benifits a little more. If you turn him down, well, he'll make sure you regret it. Basically, he gives each player gets an option to make a Gold token on their upkeep (Sac for a mana). If they do and they're my opponent, I get one too. Still toying around with the rest and fine tuning it, but I want either there to be some extra benifit to me if they "spend" that gold (such as me drawing a card or gaining some life), and some negatives to them if they don't take the gold (such as giving me an "enforcer" in the form of some creature token).
The gift and energy mechanics are so cool, I'd love to see those cards become actual cards. I wonder if WOTC would ever have a custom card competition for new commanders

This is so awesome!!! Aryatho is one of the most talented custom commander creators on r/custommagic, though there are many others... Imo it'd be super cool if you were to make a sort of series out of checking out the most interesting custom commanders from the subreddit every month or something!
Wouldn't fifus only trigger once for all the "each player" gifts? since its effect is "one or more gifts", giving three gifts as part of one event on the stack is only one event trigger.
I WILL let you know in the comments: 03:50 the card sais "whenever you give one or more gifts," which i believe is meant if the same effect gives multiple gifts at once it triggers only ONCE.
Hey Mitch. I've been a part of a group on facebook for years now dedicated to creating our own cards. (If there's anyone here who'd wanna check the group out, it's Magic Set Editor Alliance.) Some members have even gone as far as designing entire sets. So seeing this video made me very happy!! I was wondering if I could share with you a design or two at some point!! Thanks again for the video.
+1 from me, I'm also more than happy to share some custom commanders I've made through the years, and that FB group can really help with balancing and tuning.
As much as the community at large would like more commanders like Shram in white or red, you're essentially destroying the color pie. What's the point in having different flavors of mana if we want them all to do the same thing?
For fifus, I'm no expert by any means, but I'd err on the side of one trigger for "each opponent" effects, because the reminder text specifically says a spell or ability. Centaur peacemaker is one spell, even if it affects everyone
3:40 I belive that giving all opponents 4 life counts as 3 gifts but the ability says that when you give one or more gifts. What you would wanna do is go infinite with this commander (you are getting a creature token and a card so you can do a lot of degenerate stuff with that) or run howling mine and stuff. You don't want to give all your opponents stuff at the same time (except maybe life) but you wanna give one gift at a time.
I've actually thought of a mono white card draw-ish commander that doubles as a soldier tribal pay-off Amadia, Recruitment Officer 2WW Legendary Creature - Human Soldier Creatures you control with +1/+1 counters are soldiers in addition to their other creature types. Whenever you cast a soldier creature card Recruit 3 (Look at the top three cards of your library, you may reveal a creature card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.) Creatures with the same name as a card recruited this turn enter with an additional +1/+1 counter.
Fifus, Festive Friend would only trigger once because of the wording on the card. It says "when you give one or more" because the text at the end doesn't state "for each gift given" the trigger only occurs once per effect even if that effect would give more than one gift.
Creating legendary creatures in general is fun! I made a flavorful Jason Vorhees card. Jason, the Deathless (2)BB. Deathtouch, Fear When Jason, the Deathless dies or is exiled from the battlefield return it to the battlefield under its owner’s control at the beginning of the next end step if an opponent controls at least one creature.
For the gift commander I believe you only get one trigger of centaur peacemaker because it is one or more gifts so if it all happens at the same time you get a single trigger.
I had a weird jeskai Idea that goes into a field I tought of for WHITE CARDADVANTAGE! White cardadvantage could replace a regular card draw with 2-3 effects white normaly does to generate advantage like creating token, flickering/blinking or returning cheap permanents from the graveyard. The fairest way would be manifest because it won't cause etbs over and over again unless you flicker it. So the general idea of the first white later jeskai Idea was: Whenever you draw a card choose one: -Manifest the top 2-3 cards of your library -Turn target face down permanent face up (maybe blinking would be a good idea but could be too powerful) -Return up to two permanents you own to your hand. The concept makes can trips a bit better just like Zada or Feather do. Turning a Can Trip into a Manifest 2 or Manifest 3 while turning manifested Permanents face up and instant/sorceries to the hand can generate a lot of card advantage. Manifest 2 cards with a can trip then bounce the two to get two new can trips in the hand manifesting four more in the prosses.
I really like that you did a video on "Custom Cards" thought this was focused on Commander and Legendary cards it is nice to see people who create custom cards like myself get a little show time and exposure. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone do content around custom cards, and I’m really glad you took the time. I’d love to see you do deck techs for a custom commander. Though, there’s plenty of legal commanders I’d love to see too.
Aether Hub Infiltrator and She Who Asks, all the cards were great but this stood out the most. Enjoy a custom we created and tested! Madame Brivetta Legendary Creature - Kor Advisor 1WUR 1/4 Haste, Shadow All creatures gain "whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, this creature's controller draws a card." 'Make your friends rich, make your enemies rich, then you find out which is which.'
Mono white commander that says something like "on your upkeep you may exile the top card of your library. You may cast cards exiled with this ability for the rest of the game." Obviously you can then balance stuff with p/t of the creature or the creatures cmc or make it a tap ability ect. For flavor it could be some holy being known for always having the right answers or something.
The morph cards like scornful egoist could help out the emerge cards. Or even things like the persist artifact jar to sacrifice and flip them should they be able to survive.
Slime Commander is cool. As for a mono white commander this is what I would make, Atheria Queen of Wishing Well Fortress. Casting cost wwww. Can be cast by giving an opponent 5 life. At the end of any turn where an opponent gained life put that many 1/1 archer tokens into play with vigilance and reach. You may pay w per damage, if you do it's controller gains that much life instead of damage being done (does not count as prevention of damage, any ability triggered by damage being delt will not resolve as this is treated as life gain).
I run a community for Custom Commanders, we call this format of ours Custom Dragon Highlander. We've been partnering with other communities and are growing rapidly! Feel free to give it a look! discord.gg/PdX5jwp
I have never considered picking up blue as in a commander, but if something like 'She Who Asks' was a real commander I would pick it up in a heartbeat. That commander looks insanely fun.
Mono white commander: Jim, the white 1/1: whenever you create a token or gain life, counter that trigger unless you pay 1. If paid, draw a card and create that token or gain that life.
Rihoko, the spreading Dust 2WW Spirit 1/* Flying At the end of each players end step, that player search his or her library for a plains and puts it on the battlefield tapped. Rihoko's thoughness is equal to the number of plains on the battlefield.
I've always wanted to make come Custom Legendary cards. Would be fun to do that and be able to play with them. Maybe you could have some kind of special video where that gets done to see some of these in action? Probably won't be able to happen but would be pretty nifty
I've been sort of brewing my own idea for a legendary, not necessarily a commander but they'd probably be fine there. 3 Colorless/U/R, Human Wizard Flash When this card enters the battlefield, counter target sorcery or instant. If a spell is countered this way, exile it. 3 C/U/R, tap; Counter target instant or sorcery. Only activate this ability if there is no spell exiled with this card. 4 C/U/R, cast a spell exiled with this card without paying its cost.
Emerge on Sepulchral Primordial would only reduce the cost by 7 nor 6B if Gurmag Angler is sacrificed because emerge only effects generic mana. Offering reduces the costs of the spell with offering by the exact mana cost (and also grants flash). Emerging a Blightsteel with an Angler would still make it a 5 mana card which is nice. Strong etbs are still worth it with emerge but the best emergers would have nothing but generic cost.
can't believe this was missed, but much like nath, that olivia forms a two-card combo with hypnotist to take away all your opponents' hands. that's fun.
I run a community for Custom Commanders, we call this format of ours Custom Dragon Highlander. We've been partnering with other communities and are growing rapidly! Feel free to give it a look! discord.gg/PdX5jwp
Mono white commander idea: Darvan, battalion strategist. 1WW Legendary Creature - Human advisor 2/3 Tap four untapped soldier creatures you control: Draw a card. With all the soldier token generation white can do, this could draw you a lot as you flood out the board.
Pithecus, Simian Sovereign is literally everything I want to do with a commander deck. I want to smack people with big dudes, I want to force their creatures to attack, and draw cards as a result of it. Perfect design.
Oh heaven's! She Who Asks was by far my favorite. I have an Esper Sphinx EDH deck. And I have it built around blinking the board. This is the Commander it needs but does not have. WotC make this card!!!!
Olivia probably doesn't Know that though, as she's not a planeswalker there's no real evidence that Sorin would bother to tell her anything she basically murdered his whole clan and took control of inistrad in in his absence... It makes sense lore wise. I mean assuming this was made before war of the spark, it would still be spot on!
I'd mostly like to see/create commanders for certain obscure creature types that lack or have very little support. Or even common ones like Scout, Cleric etc. Though I'd want an Elephant or Turtle legendary speaking personally :D.
You still have to pay at least two black for Sepulchral Primordial, because emerge reduces the cost by the CMC of the sacrificed creature. You still have to pay all colored costs.
Does that work with Fifus? He says "whenever you give one or more gifts," not "Whenever you give a gift" so I would think instances of gifting, not each individual gift.
We have a custom commander night where we make our own precons... 25 new cards created by us and the rest real cards... My newest deck features an Echo cost theme. My commander draws a card whenever an Echo cost is paid.
My brother, who only has cursory mtg knowledge, had a pretty neat idea once. A creature that transfers all of its aura effects onto every other creature you control. Basically a Zada but for Auras.
Don't know if this would be the best way to word it, but something like "All auras attached to this creature gain 'when this permanent attaches to a creature, create a token copy of this enchantment for each other creature you control that this enchantment could enchant. Each copy attached to a different one of those creatures'." The other way you could go is to try a replacement like, "All auras attached to this creature have all instances of 'enchanted creature' or 'enchanted permanent' replaced with 'creatures enchanted creature's controller controls' or 'permanents enchanted permanent's controller controls'."
@@The1on I was thinking something along the lines of "For every Aura attached to this creature, other permanents you control that could be enchanted by that Aura gain the same effects." The last part probably isn't how it'd be worded officially but you get the gist.
Idea: Creature with the ability: "At the beginning of your upkeep, search your library for a land card and put it onto the battlefield, then if your library has no land cards in it, you lose the game."
I believe you are incorrect about the Peacemaker/Gift rules interaction: Even though you have 3 opponents, you are still technically giving 3 gifts at the same time, which is obviously "more than 1", therefore I believe you only get a single trigger off of Fifus
Tulio, master manipulator 1WB If blue mana is spent to cast him, scry 2. If red mana is spent to cast him, deal 2 damage to any target. Vigilance, first strike. U/R: choose a new target for a spell that hasn't resolved, any player my counter this ability by paying 1 3/2 Not inherently overwhelming, provides 4 color identity without complicating his cmc, & leans well into political play.
I really want a world turtle commander, having power and toughness equal to the amount of lands you control. Unfortunately it would need some differing factor to prevent it from just being Molimo with another creature type.
The flavor text for Olivia, Lord of Inistrad *chef kiss*

If you don't mind, I'd like to see this card when your done with it, I may play around with it myself if that's ok. Sounds like fun to me
The gift and energy mechanics are so cool, I'd love to see those cards become actual cards.

Dude predicted gifts 4 years before bloomburrow. Crazy part is, his gift mechanic still works perfectly fine with the modern gift mechanic
Wouldn't fifus only trigger once for all the "each player" gifts? since its effect is "one or more gifts", giving three gifts as part of one event on the stack is only one event trigger.
This. It's been discussed in the subreddit and that's how it works.
I WILL let you know in the comments: 03:50 the card sais "whenever you give one or more gifts," which i believe is meant if the same effect gives multiple gifts at once it triggers only ONCE.
Man, you're quickly becoming one of my favourite mtg channels on the platform
the flavour text on that Olivia card was delightful.
I think She Who Asks is possibly the coolest commander in this video
3:40 I belive that giving all opponents 4 life counts as 3 gifts but the ability says that when you give one or more gifts. What you would wanna do is go infinite with this commander (you are getting a creature token and a card so you can do a lot of degenerate stuff with that) or run howling mine and stuff. You don't want to give all your opponents stuff at the same time (except maybe life) but you wanna give one gift at a time.
I've actually thought of a mono white card draw-ish commander that doubles as a soldier tribal pay-off
Amadia, Recruitment Officer 2WW
Legendary Creature - Human Soldier
Creatures you control with +1/+1 counters are soldiers in addition to their other creature types.
Whenever you cast a soldier creature card Recruit 3
(Look at the top three cards of your library,
you may reveal a creature card from among them
and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.)
Creatures with the same name as a card recruited
this turn enter with an additional +1/+1 counter.
The constant shade you throw at WoTC about mono White never ceases to bring a smile to my face.
Can you do a deck tech around one of these? I’d love to see “She who asks”!!
That Fifus art is amazing and that pirate would be amazing in my admiral Brass deck
Fifus, Festive Friend would only trigger once because of the wording on the card. It says "when you give one or more" because the text at the end doesn't state "for each gift given" the trigger only occurs once per effect even if that effect would give more than one gift.
Best video yet keep up the great work and i love that someone is talking about custom cards
Creating legendary creatures in general is fun! I made a flavorful Jason Vorhees card. Jason, the Deathless (2)BB. Deathtouch, Fear
When Jason, the Deathless dies or is exiled from the battlefield return it to the battlefield under its owner’s control at the beginning of the next end step if an opponent controls at least one creature.
Can gameKnights do something like this for at least one episode? That would be a truly exciting and interesting episode!
So the general idea of the first white later jeskai Idea was:
Whenever you draw a card choose one:
-Manifest the top 2-3 cards of your library
-Turn target face down permanent face up (maybe blinking would be a good idea but could be too powerful)
-Return up to two permanents you own to your hand.
The cards that some people can create are just amazing and I loved just about every custom commander you showed here haha. It makes me want to Down load MSE on my laptop now so I can work on my "Romance-Walkers" set on the go instead of just at home haha. If you want a link to look them over let me know haha I love getting opinions.
I would love to see more custom cards shown and reviewed on Commanders 2 Cents just my thoughts on that ^_^
My brother is a huge fan of the game paladins and we made a ton of cool legendary creatures and Planeswalkers out of them. Some of them aren't that good but there are a few real gems. If u want me to send them just tell me how, I'd love to watch you build around them.
I love the r/custommagic subreddit!

These are fantastic! The snow commander and dimir burgler are top choices for me. I wish these kinds of things appeared in the secret lairs.
8:47 what is dreamborn muse wearing?
Skin.
Anyone else get the warm an fuzzies when he says “thanks to viewers like you”?
Reminds me of when i was a kids and watched pbs everyday when i got home from school. Zoom and Cyberhase were the fucking best
I love this, i really want to see more of this series!
i made two custom commanders for my favourite tribe: myr... both are five colors and i had such a great fun with one of them
Aryatho my boy! I’m so glad you’re covering these awesome cards.
Very generous of you Mitch keep up the awesome vids buddy
Probably my favorite video thus far! I've actually made a few commanders on that subreddit and like seeing what aryatho concocts each day.
Good stuff and keep it up!
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone do content around custom cards, and I’m really glad you took the time. I’d love to see you do deck techs for a custom commander. Though, there’s plenty of legal commanders I’d love to see too.
none of the big names seem to do it, but check out MTG Meow if you want some more custom card vids
Aether Hub Infiltrator and She Who Asks, all the cards were great but this stood out the most.
Enjoy a custom we created and tested!
Madame Brivetta
Legendary Creature - Kor Advisor
1WUR 1/4
Haste, Shadow
All creatures gain "whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, this creature's controller draws a card."
'Make your friends rich, make your enemies rich, then you find out which is which.'
Or even things like the persist artifact jar to sacrifice and flip them should they be able to survive.
did he really not put a link to the forum in his description? when making a video on costum commanders?
www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/ is the forum
Favorite video so far. Keep the ideas rolling!
Slime Commander is cool. As for a mono white commander this is what I would make,
Atheria Queen of Wishing Well Fortress.
Mono white commander:
Jim, the white
1/1: whenever you create a token or gain life, counter that trigger unless you pay 1. If paid, draw a card and create that token or gain that life.
Rihoko, the spreading Dust
2WW Spirit
1/*
Flying
At the end of each players end step, that player search his or her library for a plains and puts it on the battlefield tapped.
3 Colorless/U/R, Human Wizard
Flash
When this card enters the battlefield, counter target sorcery or instant.
Koro, The Shifting Wind
looked really cool!
Yes! Ooze tribal actually based around oozes!
can't believe this was missed, but much like nath, that olivia forms a two-card combo with hypnotist to take away all your opponents' hands. that's fun.

Mono white commander idea:
Darvan, battalion strategist.
1WW
Legendary Creature - Human advisor
2/3
Tap four untapped soldier creatures you control: Draw a card.
WotC make this card!!!!
nice cards! I love the second commander
thx guys!
Fifus Festive Friend works so well with the Dungeon Master (Heroes of the realm) card! So cute too ^,^
I love this idea for custom commander. I think I'll have some kind of mono White equipment matters with some kind of draw to it
Oliva, Lord of Innistrad: "The title? I got it from a stone."
Me: "Not true! Sorin escaped from the rock!"
I think the card was created before War of the Spark
I'd mostly like to see/create commanders for certain obscure creature types that lack or have very little support. Or even common ones like Scout, Cleric etc. Though I'd want an Elephant or Turtle legendary speaking personally :D.
You still have to pay at least two black for Sepulchral Primordial, because emerge reduces the cost by the CMC of the sacrificed creature. You still have to pay all colored costs.
Fifus, Festive Friend's triggered ability pops off once per spell, no matter how many opponents are gaining life, drawing, etc...
@@The1on I was thinking something along the lines of "For every Aura attached to this creature, other permanents you control that could be enchanted by that Aura gain the same effects." The last part probably isn't how it'd be worded officially but you get the gist.
great cards! Thanks for this video! I might try making edh decks with them now
With Pithecus, don't forget one of my favorite cards from recent years, Generous Patron.
You should make more of these! Also the cat rouge seems fun and pretty well balanced
Idea: Creature with the ability: "At the beginning of your upkeep, search your library for a land card and put it onto the battlefield, then if your library has no land cards in it, you lose the game."
It'd be rather busted for land fetch, but with a twist. Maybe also give it an ability that messes with other lands at the expense of your own?
@@Peronioz Run restart spells like The Great Aurora too.. y'know.. *just in case*
@@Peronioz Sounds like something to spread the idea of. I really want to see which way others go with it!
You could just sac it before that happens...
@Austin Mender Actually the idea of revealing your entire deck to your opponent would make for a great downside to the somewhat op ability
I believe you are incorrect about the Peacemaker/Gift rules interaction:
Even though you have 3 opponents, you are still technically giving 3 gifts at the same time, which is obviously "more than 1", therefore I believe you only get a single trigger off of Fifus
Tulio, master manipulator 1WB
If blue mana is spent to cast him, scry 2. If red mana is spent to cast him, deal 2 damage to any target.
Vigilance, first strike.
U/R: choose a new target for a spell that hasn't resolved, any player my counter this ability by paying 1
3/2
Not inherently overwhelming, provides 4 color identity without complicating his cmc, & leans well into political play.
Oooooh snap, I've always wanted ooze tribal! This was a cool video, I've never looked into stuff like this
a mono white commander that gives you card advantage that's not named Sram. Nailed it
i am a little surprised you did not mention Mitotic Slime combined with a sack outlet to get you up to 4 1/1's
Custom commanders are great for cube just sayin then you can even create custom cards also to go with the themes or build a custom battle box :)
I really want a world turtle commander, having power and toughness equal to the amount of lands you control. Unfortunately it would need some differing factor to prevent it from just being Molimo with another creature type.
Gorilla Titan's flavour text is such a polarizing subject. It is hilarious, but it totally ruins Hudson's ferocious ape.
