    Character attendants do not get enough credit honestly! I had the most amazing experience this summer when I went to Epcot with my family and met princess Aurora. My trip this past summer was to celebrate my recent college graduation, and the character attendant that I met when in line for Aurora came up to me (probably because I was one of the only 22 year old's in line and was the closest to his age to converse with 😂) and started talking to me and my family where he learned about what we were celebrating. We hit it off really well! When I went to meet Aurora (who was AMAZING, we talked about baking cakes with Fauna to celebrate) my mom actually missed the interaction because she was checking out the France pavilion. The attendant came up to us after my interaction to say goodbye and when my mom revealed that she missed the meet and greet, he took the two of us with him and had us wait until the end of Aurora's meet and greet. When it was over, he told us that we were going to escort her through the pavilion as she was leaving, and it was honestly the most magical experience I have ever had at Disney world. My mom and I felt like kids again and we had the most amazing time walking like princesses with one of our favorite princesses. If it wasn't for that attendant, that moment never would have happened. I just wanted to share that story because it was just so amazing and definitely gave me added respect for character attendants!

      That is so sweet, what a wonderful story!! It's true, attendants are often seen as the bad guys who have to tell people that the characters are leaving. But they also have the ability to create such wonderful memories! I'm so glad you had a great experience and that the attendant was able to make you and your mom feel special! :)

    I usually hate watching chit chatty videos, but when it comes to yours I never want it to end. You're definitely one of my favorite RUclipsrs to watch! I'm leaving for Disney next Saturday and I'm so excited, your videos are making me even more excited lol And oh my goodness, your hair looks so good!

      Thank you!! I usually hate chatty videos too, so I would try to edit my videos and make them all under 20 minutes. But one time someone commented and said they wished I would create longer videos, so I figured that it was ok to make longer ones! I tried to cut out as much as a I could, but there were SO many great questions I wanted to talk about!
      You're going next Saturday?!! Oh my gosh you're going to have so much fun! This is the best time to go too, it's not very crowded!

    Maybe instead of doing a makeup tutorial based on how the face characters do them, you could come up with a look that's different from the character performer's makeup and just Ariel-inspired instead!

    Love this chit-chat q&a format of video! So many helpful answers to questions! Especially on DCP stuff, as I didn't know you could apply up to 6 months after graduating- which could definitely help me a lot in planning! One thing I was wondering, if you'd be ok sharing, is was what has your work history been like with the company? As in, what was each cast member position/role you had (not like your specific character(s), but more general role like Character Performer, Attendant, etc) and roughly how long did you have each one? And how do Disney contracts work (generally speaking)? Also, what were your top choices for DCP roles (again like Character Performer, Attendant, Photo Pass, BBB, etc), and if you were to get a chance at doing the program again, what's a role you never worked that you'd love to try? Thanks again, Kenzie! :)

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks Lara!! You always leave the most thoughtful comments!
      I was a character attendant through the DCP from Sept. 2015- Dec. 2015. Then I was a full-time performer from Jan. 2016 - June 2016.
      You only have to sign a contract if Disney pays for your relocation fees (airfare and cost to ship your car). I was living in Florida when I was hired so they didn't pay to relocate me, and I wasn't tied to a contract. If they pay for relocation fees you have to be there for at least a year. I think if you were to break that you would just have to pay whatever they paid to relocate you.
      My top choices were - performer, attendant, bippity boppity boutique!
      If I did the program again and I had to do a new role I would love to do photopass! I love taking photos and I think I would really enjoy being a photopass photographer!

    About applying if you don't live in the US, yes, there are International College Programs in different countries, they use to be on the summer (I believe march - aug) and winter (dec - feb), but i believe you can only apply for WDW. I love how adamant you are about keeping character integrity :)
    However, I was kinda wondering... if you're allowed to answer... "When hanging out with Ariel, what was the outfit she liked to wear the most?" Ariel is such an accessories girl, I feel like she'd get so into her look XD

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +5

      Haha Ariel would probably say that she enjoyed her human feet the most because she had spent her whole life being a mermaid. But being a human if I had the opportunity to be a mermaid I would 100% choose to do that every time! So I think Ariel and I would have completely different answers to that question! Haha
      Specifically on human dresses, Ariel loves wearing her blue one because her daddy made it for her out of seafoam (which is why you can still see the bubbles in it!). But I think she still loves the pink one she wore the first night she had dinner with prince Eric too!

    • @againstthetimes
      @againstthetimes 7 лет назад +1

      Thank you so much for answering! I would also love to have the opportunity to be a mermaid XD And I think Ariel looks very nice in her blue dress. I'd probably pick that too since blue is my fav color ^_^

    Also what do you do if you have to sneeze or anything like that when you're performing? ARe certain characters allowed to do certain things? I know that one time that I met Peter Pan at Disneyland he burped.

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +7

      I would just ignore it or figure out how the character would respond. Like if Tink sneezed should could blame it on the pixie dust or something like that!

  • @TheMrRamonlle
    @TheMrRamonlle 7 лет назад +4

    Kenzie, I really appreciate your make-up tutorial and discussion vids. Now, I have some questions for you:
    1. Don't you know that articulated character show somewhat "big" emotions? They just half-blink their eyelids to show that if they're angry or sad, or tired.
    2. Well, I think asking characters to hang out is probably difficult, because they just want to stay in their places.
    3. Since atmosphere characters can't speak, is it possible for guests write down questions so they can jot down the answers? Some of them can perform American Sign Language which I think seems awkward!
    4. Would you care to be a professional photographer to take pictures of Disney characters for promotional material?
    Thank you so much, and I hope to hear from you soon!

    • @madzys3614
      @madzys3614 7 лет назад +1

      Ramon Evangelista the characters that know American Sign Language have learned it to communicate with hard of hearing and Deaf guests. Why would that be awkward?

    • @TheMrRamonlle
      @TheMrRamonlle 7 лет назад

      Because those who are not deaf can't do Sign Language with them. So when non-deaf guests ask core characters questions, they couldn't speak any sentences, but could they write down answers instead?

    • @madzys3614
      @madzys3614 7 лет назад +1

      Typically they gesture in universal ways. For example if you compliment them they might draw a heart in the air. Maybe some can write things down but not all characters can hold pens or sign things. Also characters don't use actual signs unless they know that a guest will understand them or unless a guest asks

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +1

      For the characters who can't speak, they know how to communicate with their animations or gestures, and that's something that they test for at the auditions! The character attendants also help interpret what the character is saying so you can have an interaction with them!

    Thank you so much for this video, you always do such a great job answering questions while upholding character integrity! I do have a couple questions after what you said ;) Did you do a lot of dining shifts and if you did, did you find them easier/more fun or not then a regular meet (both fur and face)? That's great to hear that characters get to keep little presents, I love making little things to bring with me to the parks. I would imagine Ariel has quite the collection of gifted dinglehoppers?!

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +1

      I did have quite a few dining shifts! And honestly I liked whatever I was doing the most. For example, if I had a bunch of meet and greet shifts in a row and then randomly had a dining shift it was harder for me to do the dining shift. But if I had a bunch of dining shifts in a row and got used to doing that but then had a meet and greet shift, it was hard for me to do the meet and greet shift. They both vary slightly in the way you interact with guests which made it hard if I was doing one shift a lot and had to switch to the other type. I hope that makes sense! They both had their perks and challenges, so it's hard to compare them!
      Haha Ariel definitely has quite the collection of dinglehoppers and drawings from kids!

    • @ahluvdrums
      @ahluvdrums 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply, yes that totally makes sense!! I agree that it does seem like a totally different interaction from one to the other. I will say that I would think it would be hard to do the dining shifts, just to see all the people eating all that yummy food, I'd have to make sure I ate right before work! :)

  • @sigridevamusic
    @sigridevamusic 7 лет назад +5

    Hi Kenzie! Thanks for sharing your advice! Something I've been thinking about is the fact that I have bangs. If I went to an audition would it be best if I pinned them away or could I leave them down and just pull my hair back if they ask me to?

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +1

      I think it's totally fine to leave them down, or wear them however you feel most comfortable! When you're working as a performer you wear a wig anyways, so I feel like your hairstyle really shouldn't play any factor whatsoever in you getting hired. I mean you still have to be in Disney look (having a natural color - brown, red, blonde, black - or natural looking highlights), but it shouldn't matter how you wear your hair during the audition since you'll be wearing a wig anyways!

    Do they provide the needed make up for face performers? Or reimburse the cost? Or is it simply you buy it yourself?

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +2

      They provide the makeup, and I think there's a way where you can get reimbursed too. But they provide the majority of the makeup, I think the only thing most performers use their own makeup for is foundation/concealer.

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching my videos! I made the decision a while ago not to talk about my training, mainly because I don't feel like I have the authority to speak on behalf of the company and how they train their employees. I'm sure other performers have, that's just what I decided in the beginning when I started making videos talking about my experience 😊💕

    Do face character performers ever go on floats. for example in fantasia all the princesses are on a boat is it possible to do that?

  • @queenofcamp832
    @queenofcamp832 7 лет назад +1

    Hey girl! i've auditioned before and not been picked and i've certainly done my homework watching videos such as yours - the one question no one ever answers fully is what is the training like in terms of what you do? do you watch the movies and do practise interactions etc? :) always wanted to know!

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +1

      You probably won't see much on the training because it's seen as private company information. If you go to an audition they don't have you sign anything saying you won't talk about the process which is why there are so many videos on it. But once you become a performer your training is considered private company information, which is why I haven't made a video on it, and why most people won't talk about it. The last thing I want is a lawsuit from the company from publicly releasing information I'm not entitled to release.

    So I have two more questions. Is it good to having acting, dancing, and singing experience when you go to audition? Two how did you manage your time with online college and working at Walt Disney World?

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад

      I think it would be very helpful to have acting and dancing experience when you go to an audition! They will have have you do both an animation and a movement exercise where it would be very helpful to have previous acting or dancing experience.
      I had graduated when I did the DCP so I didn't have to take any online classes when working at Disney World! But if you needed to they can fix your work schedule around your classes so you can do both!

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +8

      Yes, but more so because they were random. Like the questions that were related to my character weren't too difficult (for me) because I knew my character pretty well. The ones that were random or about more "real life" topics were harder to answer. I think I had a kid ask me why the human world was a mess (or something along those lines) and that was harder to answer. Because I had to think about how the character would respond, not just how I would respond.
      Yes, there are lots of them! I feel like a lot of my friends had multiple characters, especially if they had been there for a while. I had one face character, but I had a friend who started at the same time as me and started with three! So I think a lot of it just depends on the person, and what they're looking for at the time!

    Did you work for Disney at the end of November in 2016? I went and met Ariel 5 times and I was wondering if it was you. I gave all of them drawings I made of Ariel. One of them loved it SO much she asked me where I got it. That made me feel so good. A lot of times they didn't realize it was for them. I did this for all 13 princesses and met all of them more than once. When I met Anna and Elsa they started arguing over which one looked better. They each thought theirs was better. It felt really good because all of the kids at my school and in my neighborhood make fun of my love for Disney and my art in general. I sang the song "Part of Your World" for one or two of them. Where any of the Ariel's you? Also, thank you for answering peoples questions!

      You have to work when your program is. So if you're doing the fall program (Sept. to Jan.) then you have to live there and work there during that period of time. Typically you get the shifts that the other cast members who are full-time don't want so you really don't get to pick when you work either.

    I had a couple questions! I’ve heard there is an amount of people you have to get through the line in an allotted time-is that true? I am very interested in becoming a face character, and I was wondering if you could maybe tell me a little bit about what you did during training. I know you mentioned that you didn’t feel comfortable sharing details such as how you did your makeup, but if you could elaborate on the general process that would be AMAZING! Thank you! I love your channel!

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  6 лет назад +1

      So yes, there is a system in place so that the guests can move through the line in an efficient manner but also feel satisfied with their interaction. I don't feel like I have the authority to share the specifics on how that works, but there is a structure in place so that the lines don't get to be five hours long and everyone has an equal, but unique interaction.
      I also don't feel like I have the authority to talk about my training as a whole, but there are several RUclipsrs that have! At the auditions they don't have you sign anything saying you can't talk about the experience, but you do sign paperwork once you are hired and once you start your training. That's why I don't feel like I can openly discuss the training process, especially since it would break character integrity. However, there are other RUclipsrs that have felt comfortable sharing that experience and I would recommend watching their videos if you wanted to learn more about the process :) I can say that it was really fun and they make sure you feel comfortable and confident in your role before you finish the training!

    Also, you talked about the height and stuff. Do they have face characters that are 5' 10" ish? Also, I have feet that are a size 11. Does this matter? Do they have costumes that fit people who wear a size 14 in regular clothes? Do the costumes run true to size? I have a REALLY red face but then some of my skin is REALLY pale and some is REALLY dark. Will this matter? My friends say I look a lot like Anna so I want to audition for her. I have played characters like Cinderella, Anna, Elsa, Rapunzel, Belle, and Aurora on stage at my theater school so it was a big deal. It was really fun so I know how to act and animate so do you think I shoud audition? So sorry I have some many questions!

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +1

      I think that if being a performer is your dream then it would definitely be worthwhile to go to an audition! I really do love your videos and you are so sweet! I do have some questions, do male characters wear makeup also? (Like Prince Charming or Prince Philip) and why do certain characters only visit for the holidays instead of year-round or are just in the parades? (like Snow White and Aurora)

    • @kenziemacbrown
      @kenziemacbrown  7 лет назад +1

      The male performers (I'm pretty sure) have slight makeup they could wear but I'm pretty sure a lot of them don't. I'm not sure for Disneyland, but for Disney World they usually bring out the more rare characters during the holidays as a treat for the guests who would want to see them. There's not much of a demand for them year-round compared to other characters (Anna and Elsa, the Princesses, Tinkerbell, etc.). But in Disney World you can meet Snow White and Aurora year round!

    I have a question about the character training. Would Ariel be able to respond to a question about her friend Urchin from the TV series?

      Ariel mainly likes to talk about Prince Eric, Flounder, King Triton, Sebastian, Scuttle, etc. If someone brings up Melody or her friend Urchin she might answer some questions, but normally she prefers talking about the friends I mentioned above :)

    I am applying to the Disney College Program and going to the character performer auditions - I have one question. I have a slight gap in between my two front teeth, do you think that automatically puts me a disadvantage and less likely for me from getting a Face Performer role since none of the princesses in the Movies have a slight gap?

      I'm not totally sure! I don't think it would (I've seen performers with crooked teeth before and I feel like that's similar), but I'm also not a trained casting director and have no hiring experience, so I really can't speak on behalf of the company. I would just apply and go to the auditions and see what happens!

    What characters were you at Disney?
