- A short film of Nottingham Goose Fair taken in October 1985. The filming is a little shaky as I had only just got a video camera at that point and wasn't used to it. nevertheless, it's interesting to see certain side shows no longer present including 'Tiny Tim' and the 'Snake Girl'-things I guess may no longer be allowed.
Cracking video. I'm a showman and went to Nottingham Goose Fair every year for 28 years this is what I remember the ground looking like and to hear the Tiny Tim spiel again brilliant.
my mum spotted her self on this video, its amazing her seeing her self from 29 years ago, Thanks for uploading, your a legend mate
Cool, glad to hear your mum spotted herself in my film :)
Its hard to believe that the Forest Recreation Ground has seen so much! There's countless memories there on those grounds. The next time I am there and its empty and just me there alone. I'll be in the centre and think "This is me, here now, my moment, my memory". I know it seems bewildering, its because it is, life is and how the years go by so fast. All those memories scattered to the winds...
I always get nostalgic for the first Friday evening in October when it comes around, as I always associate it with visiting the fair. Especially 1980s ones like this one.
You know it's the 80's when you hear El Debarge singing 'Rhythm of the night' ...
Oh my god, the olden days! I go Goose Fair every single year, its an absolute must! What an amazing insight into what the Goose Fair was like all them years ago!
yeeeeeeah. I got to see the dive bomber after all these years. thanks!
this brings back so many childhood memories - thank you so much!
Omg, I was 8 years old at this goose fair. Amazing to actually see it rather than just remember it. My parents always took me in the evening and I'm amazed to see how dull goose fair looked during the day back then. Seeing the retro rides like the zipper, umbrellas, cyclone was fab tho. Some of those rides evolved into really great fairground attractions. Also seeing the mouse town was interesting as my late grans brother ran it. Thanks for uploading.
I was 23 just loved this era good memories
Priceless! Thanks for saving this gem of history.
Shame the camera has to move all the time. There were numerous points of interest in this film but the camera keeps darting from one thing to another and loses the plot. Not that that matters so much as the value that it actually exists!
Thank you!
I moved to Nottm in 88 and never knew they used to have donkey rides at GF. Apart from that it looked much the same and lovely to see your footage, thanks for sharing. Especially enjoyed hearing how the fire engines used to sound! Cheers.
old fairs are the best
I was 10 in 1985 and remembered coming to this one, I just remember being too excited but the first thing I saw when parking up was an older lad wearing a black leather jacket with greasy long hair being sick into a bucket in what appeared to be the police area (sick bay) I will never forget how that made me feel. I just didn’t want to be there! So then I had to tag round with my older sister and a family friend feeling completely weird. I didn’t want to go on any rides, Tiny Tim was a strange thing to see and again didn’t like it. The whole atmosphere just felt too grown up for me ( maybe I’d lived too much of a sheltered life out in the villages) but years later I’d say I had happier/ fun experiences going to Goose fair but memories do tend to stick.
This is brilliant! Such great memories of Goose Fair. My favorite ride was the Gallopers and they stayed with me; today I restore carousel horses.
All I ever wanted was a goldfish in a bag... simpler times, great times.
Thanks for sharing this!! I only started going to NGF (and fairs in general) from 2007 onwards. Therefore, great to see what's still the norm now e.g. Ski Jump and Meteorites. Like what Jamiedg11 said, I didn't know we used to have a Zipper either.
thank you very much for some great memories of this wonderful nostalgic master piece
Didn't need the title to know it was 1985, the hairstyle gave it away! I went down there recently (2011) and Tiny Tim was indeed missing. Maybe he grew up.. Great video.
Great footage!
That brought back memory’s

Thanks very much for sharing this video. It brings back so many great memories
I used to live 3 minutes walk away from the Goose fair site in the early 80's. I was 12 in 1985, this brings back good memories. Sometimes I'd just walked around and watch the rides/listen to the music as i couldn't afford to go on anything
Happier days by far or is it just the happy memories of my era
When travelling funfairs were proper funfairs, not like they have today, like amusement parks. Back in the day I worked for Pat Collins done 14 seasons with them good old days.😊
Thanks for sharing this this is a real funfair
big wheels don't go as fast as that now always remember pullins and William summers bigwheels when I was a kid in Doncaster you used to hang on for ya life used to love them great film
Thank you 💓 good memories 😘
Old funfairs are much better than fun fairs today I was 9 then in 1985
Nahhh there way better now more rides better looking and more safety
Fab footage!
Wow i was 2 years old when this was filmed, fantastic clip , great to compare with the 2014 clips.
The good old days, when it was diesel fumed, onion filled atmosphere. Never get them days back
Wow . The Ramba Zamba at the beginning and the American wheel . Wish there was still an American wheel doing the rounds.
These are the best rides, used to love the pirate ship, did you get many you tube views back then?
I can remember when the elephant man was on show there before tiny Tim !
Awesome!
A zipper ride in the UK, shame we dont see them these days, went on one in St. Albans in the early nineties and it was brilliant
I was 18. 😁 Bloody hell, wish I was again! Great year.
Was that stevens alpine express
I dare say that imagine attempting a similar exercise nowadays in these PC times. Great vvideo!
GREAT VID M8 i would of been 13 then and would of gone, how times have changed.Just fancy a hot dog now
The police dressed differently then! I was 8 years old at that time!
I was 4yrs old in 1985 all my god
I wanted to see Tiny Tim ! And where's all the geese?
im in this vid and my dad lol
I did not know that we had zipper rides in the uk
I think they wasn't popular so faded out over the years just like the old octopus
When fun fairs was good
Does anyone know what circus is pitched up at the back of the Forrest ground? (Big blue 8 pole tent)
Did the circus regularly open on the same date as goose fair?
I have been to every single Goose Fair for the last 65 years and I can honestly tell you that there has never ever been a circus pitched up at the same time. Really nice atmospheric bit of film particularly the side shows how did they get away with it? Lol
No circus and weve been every year since 1974. It was probably the wrestling and boxing tent!
I was 9
great footage but gave me motion sickness!
Any sign of Thurston's Diamond T's!
All those rides not one Skid.
There was one there that year, Manning's ( not shown though)
On the position where their Caterpillar ride stood from 1986 to 1999
you couldnt get away with this today!
